To ask you where and when your waters broke?

Posting for traffic.
I'm coming up to 37 weeks pregnant with my first and have (finally!) started my antenatal classes. We had a long discussion about waters breaking and how it can be a big gush or a slow drip, and it can happen anywhere and everywhere.
I'm thinking about putting down some puppy training pads under my bed sheet as our mattress is only two month old and I'm worried about it getting ruined!
WIBU to ask all you lovely mums when and where your waters broke? And what was it like?
Thanks Smile

DS - during an induced labour when the midwife stuck a hook up there to do it, to try to encourage labour to progress.

DD - after my daughter was born in the cawl and the midwife broke the membranes, after telling us that it was a sign of luck and she'd never drown at sea!

Mine broke at 39+3. I was already in hospital due to bleeding but they didn't think it was a sign of labour and kept me in as a precaution. I was asleep and felt a big 'pop' and a gush. I then remember them going even more as I was being wheeled up to delivery suite needing to push

Tigger85 · 27/01/2019 14:28

My waters broke when I was in the bath, i felt the pop and then a lot of pain, I think it came out very quick but can't really tell due to being on the bath. I had a show and mild cramping starting at 0300, what I would call proper contractions from about 1000, rang the hospital at about 1330 when I was struggling to time the contractions properly, advised to have a warm bath. Bath was around 1400, rang the hospital again once waters popped, told I was in the latent phase, my dad insisted I went to hospital. Arrived at hospital at 1500 and was fully dilated.

mindutopia · 27/01/2019 14:31

First time they broke in bed at about 2am. My dd was born about 11 hours later, no contractions until about 2 hours later. 2nd time they only broke as he was crowning (all over my bedroom wall!!). Both were home births.

brizzledrizzle · 27/01/2019 14:36

On an escalator in the House of Fraser, it made choosing the baby's name nice and easy.

Thurmanmurman · 27/01/2019 14:39

DC1 they didn’t break, midwife had to break them. DC2, whilst lying on the bed in the delivery room about 20 mins before DS made an appearance.

SallyWD · 27/01/2019 14:41

At home with my first. It certainly wasn't gushing out. More like heavy period bleeding. My waters were broken during labour with my 2nd

itssquidstella · 27/01/2019 14:45

@SomethingNastyInTheBallPool PMSL at "floated downstream to hospital" 😂

Universalcreditwoes · 27/01/2019 14:45

Dc1 lieing down on the sofa. Dc2 lieing down in bed. Dc3 lieing down on the grass in the garden. Dc4....still waiting to see. However with each one on the day I go into labour I have Braxton hicks constantly the night before. They disappear then for the day I feel very calm and collected and when I relax my waters go. Every time. So hoping this time will be the same

LittleScottieDog · 27/01/2019 15:07

39+3, hlnd waters broke but had bleeding so I didn't realise, just thought I was bleeding and went to MAU.

My fore waters didn't break until I'd been induced and having contractions for a couple of hours. It really felt like I was wetting myself and there was LOADS of water. I was having my epidural and just gushing water all over the floor, happened about 3 times, the midwife couldn't believe there was so much!

Ifyouthinkiwillsleepyoudream · 27/01/2019 15:09

About 11pm as I was about to go to bed and popped to the loo for a wee at 38+2. Just started leaking as I stood up from the loo and it was very clearly not wee (sorry TMI?!)
Went to the hospital two hours later and DS was born 6.59am the next morning. I think that is considered a pretty quick birth for a first DC!

Ginnymweasley · 27/01/2019 15:13

With dd the Dr broke them when I was induced.
With ds, I had woken up with mild contractions, stood up to move around a bit to ease them (thinking they were Braxton hicks) and I just felt something run down my leg. It wasn't in the least bit dramatic. Until I woke my dh up and he half asleep just leapt out of bed and ran downstairs leaving me stood in a puddle..... still don't know what he was thinking.

Caxx · 27/01/2019 15:15

They never did DS4 he was born perfectly incased in his waters

MrsMonkeyBear · 27/01/2019 15:38

41+1 with DD1: Already contracting and had an epidural so didn't feel it. All I remember was apologising to a student doctor for soaking his shoes.

39+6 DD2: Been in labour for about 3 hours and at hospital. Waters went spectacularly and hit every surface in the room (DH was more concerned about his shoes.) 29 minutes later I was holding a baby.

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 27/01/2019 15:53

I woke at about 5am needing a wee, lumbered out of bed, waking down the corridor they broke and I thought I had wet myself! When I realised what was happening I called for DH who did a comedy sketch routine falling out of the bed and tripping down the corridor in his boxers which made me laugh which made the waters pour out faster!

They never stopped and I had to sit on bundled up towels in the car and then proceeded to soak a chair in the maternity admissions area in front of a load of men who were waiting there. I didn't give a shit at that stage, I was given plastic sheeting to sit on then!

Dc wasn't born till 5pm the next day!

giveovermypreciousss · 27/01/2019 15:55

Ive had 3 dc.
Ds1 broke at 1am. It woke me up.
Dd1 were broke at 39 weeks by mw.
Ds2 broke at 37 weeks at the start of a 3 hour lecture during the third year of my history degree. I stayed till the end and just borrowed a sanitary towel

workornot · 27/01/2019 15:57

DC1 - not sure. Entered the birthing pool 1hour before delivery and waters broke at some point whilst being in the pool.

DC2 - entered the pool literally just 5 mins before she was born and waters only broke in the pool. must have been just before the delivery.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 27/01/2019 15:58

I’d just sat down to dinner and Newsnight had just come on. We’d been at our last anti natal class.

TheSheepofWallSt · 27/01/2019 16:01

At the end of labour at 41 weeks. I was fully dilated and had been through the “rest and be thankful” phase- was allowed to start pushing and after about 40 mins of pushing, my waters broke. DS arrived 23 minutes after Grin

Feelingfullandreadytoclean · 27/01/2019 16:07

DC1- whilst pushing head out
DC2- woke up at 1 am with a massive gush
DC3- whilst pushing head out

Upsidedownfrown · 27/01/2019 16:07

I was in the park at 30 wks with my 2yo, gently swinging on the swings next to him. Bed rest and DD arrived at 31wks. All fine now but a horrendous time and although it's silly, I can't stop myself shooting evil looks at those swings every time I walk past now

MumW · 27/01/2019 16:08

I made the bed, put a waterproof sheet over the top and then made the bed again.
My water's went early morning and I was so glad we just had to pull the sheet and waterproof off and climb back into bed.

Some of these might come in handy too.
www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-bed-mat-10pk/p/0346720

They're useful for times of heavy bleeding too. I put them on top of the sheet with an old towel on top.

THIS THREAD WAS STARTED LAST SEPTEMBER

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 27/01/2019 16:10

Dc1 - waters broke while sitting on the sofa. First sign of labour and it was a massive gush. No denying that’s what it was!

Dc2 - had to be induced so waters were broken in hospital

BrieAndChilli · 27/01/2019 16:14

Mine never broke.
The midwifes has to break mine with 2 & 3 as I was fully dilated and they needed to break them to help labour along. With DS1 they had to break them to be able to take some blood from the top of his head to monitor his oxygen levels.
In fact with DD I felt something quite large come out and the midwife was out the room so I made DH look and it was a giant blob. When midwife came back she said it was a sac of my back waters so she popped it to check the colour and then threw it away!!
My ‘sacs’ are obviously extra tough!
