To ask you where and when your waters broke?

Posting for traffic.
I'm coming up to 37 weeks pregnant with my first and have (finally!) started my antenatal classes. We had a long discussion about waters breaking and how it can be a big gush or a slow drip, and it can happen anywhere and everywhere.
I'm thinking about putting down some puppy training pads under my bed sheet as our mattress is only two month old and I'm worried about it getting ruined!
WIBU to ask all you lovely mums when and where your waters broke? And what was it like?
Thanks Smile

My friend's went in Nando's. Her DP wanted to finish his chicken before going to the hospital Grin

First at 38 weeks - in the kitchen, I'd just finished watching Casualty. We phoned maternity and they insisted on sending an ambulance. Contractions started an hour or two after arriving at the hospital and it took just over 7 hours from my waters breaking to holding my son.

Second at 42 weeks - 40 minutes after contractions started, I thought it was backache as they were almost constant and was told to head for maternity so they could see what, if anything, was happening. They broke outside A&E's entrance (not being dramatic, it was the only entrance open at night) and I was holding my second son 4 minutes later.

First time they started leaking in bed.

Second started leaking when I was wondering around the house. Then as I walked into hospital they went with a gush and flooded me and the floor.

Third time they went as I was pushing.

2nd - MW broke them at about 6cms to speed up labour 21/2 hours
3rd - popped in bed at 40+5 DD3 born an hour later
4th - MW broke at 5 cms DS born 4 mins later

Tigger001 · 27/01/2019 19:31

Mine broke at 38 weeks, earlier in the day I had been shopping with my mum I asked her if we could leave the shop as I felt "funny" but couldn't explain it so we left everything in our trolleys (sorry sainsburys ) and just left.
I later spoke with my best friend who was flying on a quick break for 3 days. Her last words were and "bump don't you dare come until I'm back " 30 mins later we were tucked up in bed. I felt like I needed the loo, then my waters went lol I still say she jinxed me 😜😜😜

My waters broke as my babies were being born, 2 were born in the caul.

Birdsgottafly · 27/01/2019 19:51

I had to have all three of mine broken. I was in advanced labour, in my youngest DDs case, I delivered 15 minutes later.

My DD got in and out of the bath and they partially went in there and on the toilet.

Ikea

Elfinablender · 27/01/2019 19:54

IKEA?

Did they shower you with celebratory flat pack?

greathat · 27/01/2019 19:55

In bed, made it out just in time but soaked (the luckily wooden) floor. Was first sign of labour and I then had to be induced as waters looked more like a blood bath!

Second time, midwife popped them to induce me (I thought I was already in labour but machines weren't picking it up. Baby arrived 40 mins later so I think I was right!

bunnyrabbit93 · 27/01/2019 19:56

Both my waters were broken by a midwife in labour

Youngandfree · 27/01/2019 19:57

My waters broke first with my first baby at 41 weeks whilst I was trying to put a sock on 😂😂 I went into labour 3 hours later

amy85 · 27/01/2019 19:58

Ds1 - waters broke in the MW's face...I was in labour and she was having a look to see what was happening down there and pop
DS2 - mw broke them during labour
DD - one set of waters broke at home during a firework party...it was just a constant dribble and the grossiest thing ever - other set were popped later on by a mw

Springmachine · 27/01/2019 19:58

@Elfinablender I was in denial and thought I'd wet myself (first baby and it wasn't anything like on TV) so felt embarrassed and got myself home.

I wasn't having any contractions so went to triage a few days later (had a busy weekend planned) and was told it was in fact my waters and they had to act right away as it had been too long for my waters to have been leaking and we're worried about infection.

So ended up in emcs and preventatory antibiotics for both me and baby for a week.
Nightmare.

RolandDeschainsGilly · 27/01/2019 20:02

Baby 1 and 2 broken by midwives in hospital

Baby 3 broke in hospital without assistance

Baby 4 broke at home after the school run around 3:45pm and had no contractions till 1am.

Elfinablender · 27/01/2019 20:03

I'm sorry spring, that sounds really hard. I'd imagined a TV style bursting of waters, followed by excited staff fussing around you and an IKEA voucher for good measure.

BeautifulPossibilities · 27/01/2019 20:03

Thankfully in my kitchen as there was a lot of water! I never thought they would gush and puddle like in the films.. it was pretty much exactly like the films Grin

9nine · 27/01/2019 20:04

First 5 babies (39, 39, 36, 38 & 35 weeks) were all broken by midwife during labour not long before each of them were born.
6th, guidelines changed and as I was 36 weeks they wouldn’t break them and they broke as I pushed him out
7th, broke with a gush over my bedroom floor at 4:30am at 35 weeks (due to infection)
8th, 39 weeks, very quick birth and she was born en caul and broken out of them after she was born
9th, 36 weeks, broken by midwife a few minutes before he was born

BeautifulPossibilities · 27/01/2019 20:05

Oh and mines was the first sign of labour too! But I started contracting immediately

Littlemissdaredevil · 27/01/2019 20:05

Mine broke at 38+0. Went to bed feeling exhausted and woke two hours later thinking a needed a wee. My waters went in several big gushes all over my new mattress. Thankfully I had a mattress protector on it!

TheBitterBoy · 27/01/2019 20:06

Mine went in bed, I turned over, there was an audible 'pop' and then whooosh! I was very glad of the protective bed mat.

hshavshejwhg12 · 27/01/2019 20:08

Good luck when the time comes OP!

With my first - I was 10cm dilated in hospital and the midwife was just away to burst my waters when they burst themselves and went all over the floor and my partners shoes!

With my second - slowly trickled out while standing in my pyjamas and looked at my partner saying, omg I think I’m peeing myself?! It slowly came out for another 3-4 hours where I sat on towels and then that’s when the constractions started

Iownabigvase · 27/01/2019 20:09

No idea but I think about a week or so before dd was born!
I'd been in slow 'Labour' for a week before she arrived and did feel quite damp down there but I just put it down to (sorry for the tmi) being hot and having a sweaty crotch which i had pretty much all throughout the pregnancy.. when the midwife examined me she asked when my waters had gone and I said they hadnt.. she said that they had as she could feel dds hair.
I wasn't ever wet, just damp some of the time so it must have been a really slow leak.. that or they'd gone in the bath.. Who knows! Thankfully dd was fine although I think they gave her some antibiotics just to be sure.
I was dissapointed actually! I really wanted a big gush! Grin
