To ask you where and when your waters broke?

Posting for traffic.
I'm coming up to 37 weeks pregnant with my first and have (finally!) started my antenatal classes. We had a long discussion about waters breaking and how it can be a big gush or a slow drip, and it can happen anywhere and everywhere.
I'm thinking about putting down some puppy training pads under my bed sheet as our mattress is only two month old and I'm worried about it getting ruined!
WIBU to ask all you lovely mums when and where your waters broke? And what was it like?
Thanks Smile

I think it was as I was climbing out of bed in contraction pain.
It wasn’t much and I called the hospital and they said i’d Really know if was my waters.
Anyway, we went in and after giving birth the midwife said she didn’t know when my waters broke as she never noticed anything.
So must have been the small amount of fluid at home!

sabrinathethirtysomethingwitch · 11/09/2018 11:54

37+5. Woke up at 10am and turned over in bed. Felt a trickle and jumped up out of bed. A bit of a gush came out when I sat on the loo. Then they continued to trickle. Contractions started an hour later. Baby born just before 11pm that night!

Collywobbles1984 · 11/09/2018 12:05

In the car about 5 minutes away from the hospital, after a frantic hour long journey! Luckily DH and DM had had the good sense to put a mattress protector on my seat before we set off!

kaytee87 · 11/09/2018 12:07

I'd been having contractions all night and they'd really ramped up early in the morning, I got sent home from hospital. Went for a shower to try and relieve the pain and kept feeling like I needed to poo (back to back labour) so was sat on the toilet when I heard and felt a pop and water splashed into the loo. DS was born about 14 hours after waters going.

JenBarber · 11/09/2018 12:08

Mine never broke. Midwife attempted to 'break' them with what looked like a crochet hook but still, none came.

DS is 15 now. No sign of them.

Still hoping one day they'll burst and I'll go down a few trouser sizes...

LetsHaveAnotherGo · 11/09/2018 12:10

In the birthing pool after 24 hours of labour - felt a big POP! Grin DD arrived very shortly after.

ImNotBusyImLazy · 11/09/2018 12:19

Both times I was at home deep into contractions, curled up on the bed, but had not yet left for hospital. (First was 40+5 second was 41 wks.)

Both times I felt a “pop” and felt a gush, but absolutely no water came out either time, baby’s head completely blocked it. After water breaking, the contractions intensified and went to 2 minutes apart from only having been 9 minutes apart. I sat on towels on the way to the hospital but no water came out until the babies did. And both times the midwife got a shower.

applesisapple5 · 11/09/2018 12:27

Mine broke when I was fully dilated and got in the birth pool!

Haven't rtft but I would recommend getting a mattress protector, you can get them quite cheaply and they're not all plasticky, they're like a terry towel cover and you stick your sheet over the top. Good for post natal recovery, any milk, plus baby accidents!!

owlofathena · 11/09/2018 12:33

In bed at 2 in the morning. I woke up feeling uncomfortable and thought I'd walk about. Felt a pop and waters broke. Was first sign of labour for me and contractions started 2 hours later. I was exactly 39 weeks

BlueKarou · 11/09/2018 13:26

Mine broke at the beginning of my active labour, as I was on a gurney being hurried from one of the early labour rooms to a delivery room. I had just got to the point of needing to push and so contractions had suddenly been turned up to 11 and I'd figured it was all about to happen so I hit the call button - They checked me, told me to get onto the bed and we were off, then there was a popping sensation and wetness. Kiddo was born 5 minutes later, the day before my due date.

MrsHazelby · 27/01/2019 10:42

My first never broke at all and my DD1 was born in her sac. DD2, born two days ago broke one push before I delivered her. Very similar births, though the second was much faster. Both born 39+5 x

HavelockVetinari · 27/01/2019 10:49

At an NCT class! I thought I might be peeing myself but went to hospital anyway and it was my waters.

Mossend · 27/01/2019 12:04

Sound asleep in bed both times

DareDevil223 · 27/01/2019 12:11

I was 10 days late, middle of the night I got up to go to the loo and as I got to the bathroom my waters broke. I actually thought I'd peed myself and was mortified until I realised that the baby was now on his way and there was no going back Smile

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 27/01/2019 12:11

Dc1 they broke into the toilet in the labour room, had just ascertained I was 8cm and eligible to stay on labour ward; dc2 all over my shoes and the bouncy gym ball on the antenatal ward when I'd assured them I might not be shouting and screaming but I'm definitely in labour!

fleshmarketclose · 27/01/2019 12:19

First time I was in bed and it was just a trickle, twice they were broken as I was being induced and the last time they went spectacularly in the hall in front of teen ds and a group of his friends who all left very quickly.

Funnyface1 · 27/01/2019 12:20

11 days overdue, in hospital, in established labour. Broke naturally though, not by midwife. Second dc was a scheduled c section so n/a.

ASundayWellSpent · 27/01/2019 12:23

I wondered this too as they had to break mine first time around. Second birth I had just come out of the shower gone to bed and felt v wet so went back to the bathroom and while I was pondering if maybe I hadn’t dried myself properly I made a puddle on the floor about the size of a wee. Was wetting a maxi pad through about every three hours. Was definitely not dramatic!

WineAndTiramisu · 27/01/2019 12:27

Went to the toilet for a wee about 2am, stopped weeing but felt like I still was, took me a minute or two to work out what was happening! Grin
No damage to bed though luckily. I'd put a mattress protector on a few weeks earlier though just in case (and that's been more use since she was born really, mainly for vomit!).

My vote would be a decent waterproof mattress protector (decent so it doesn't crinkle under you when you move!), As you'll probably want to leave it on!

SPR1107 · 27/01/2019 12:30

I walked in to the hospital, she asked me to get on the bed to be examined, just as I was about to get on, me and DH heard a sound like an elastic band snapping, looked at each other confused, and a huge gush came out. It pushed my knickers down (had summer dress on), splatted the floor and back splashed all up DHs trainers and legs 😂.
I was 5cm at this point
I used towels on the car seat on the way in just incase

FlurkenSchnit · 27/01/2019 12:46

With DS1 my hind waters trickled slowly for about a day then a MW popped my fore waters on the ward as I was also in slow labour.

With DD I went for a wee about 6am on my due date then it was a slow constant trickle. Didn't have any gushing at all.

On DS2 they went with a pop whilst I was on the toilet in the hospital. I was 38 weeks and had been having contractions for about an hour, MWs reckoned I wasn't in "proper" labour so had just run me a bath on the maternity ward. Waters went and I was carted off to delivery.

DS3 was ELCS so no waters went until they cut me open.

Cheerbear23 · 27/01/2019 12:57

In bed, All evening I had felt very unsettled, nauseaous and shivery. I felt a pop and dashed a short distance to the loo managing to ‘keep it in’ for a couple of seconds. It was a trickle but carried on for hours, I used a full pack of maternity pads and 2 paid of pants within the first hour. In hindsight I should have just sat on a towel but didn’t realise (my first).

LucyAutumn · 27/01/2019 13:08

I was 37 weeks and had just gone to bed after a long weekend. I had hypodramnios (excess amniotic fluid) so it was a huge gush which followed me all the way to the bathroom, I had to sit on the toilet until the taxi arrived and then sit on towels in the taxi!

BrokenWing · 27/01/2019 13:29

39 weeks, woke on Saturday morning never noticed anything amiss, began to sit up and felt a dribble of something (thought I'd wet myself), lay back down and it stopped, tried to get up again and again a dribble of something. Called dh for a towel and waddled to the loo with legs crossed and towel between my legs, gushed out clear when I sat down. Continued to dribble.

No contractions so had a shower and light breakfast, then called maternity unit and went in using a couple of maternity pads, a bed pad and towels on the car seat.

FuckBrussel · 27/01/2019 14:02

DC1 - midwife broke waters during labour.

DC2 - at term, had had a lovely day, late night, got into bed, just dozing off, and felt a "pop". As soon as I moved I could feel the trickle, so I laid still, nudged snoring DH and asked him to get me a bath towel. He got up, staggered to the airing cupboard, threw a towel at me and got back into bed to carry on sleeping...!
