To ask you where and when your waters broke?

Posting for traffic.
I'm coming up to 37 weeks pregnant with my first and have (finally!) started my antenatal classes. We had a long discussion about waters breaking and how it can be a big gush or a slow drip, and it can happen anywhere and everywhere.
I'm thinking about putting down some puppy training pads under my bed sheet as our mattress is only two month old and I'm worried about it getting ruined!
WIBU to ask all you lovely mums when and where your waters broke? And what was it like?
Thanks Smile

Sofa. Stood up after being on phone to my mum and gush!
All over sofa.
And my MIL cleaned it up - thankful to her but embarrassed too lol

Luckymummy22 · 11/09/2018 10:15

2nd time was in hospital and Mw did very well to avoid it as I was pushing at time 😂

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 11/09/2018 10:16

34 weeks, on the sofa. Lots of gushing, so I wrapped myself in a towel and a raincoat, called a taxi and floated downstream to hospital.

CMOTDibbler · 11/09/2018 10:16

On the bedroom carpet - I'd had a nice bath and then a lie down on the bed to read . Stood up and a gush came out.
Bit of a shock as I was 35 weeks

Mine broke in bed, felt a pop, stood up and they fished out on the floor next to the bed. I had put protectors on the bed but it hadn’t occurred to me to put them over the carpet next to the bed.

Allegorical · 11/09/2018 10:17

*gushed

MaryShelley1818 · 11/09/2018 10:18

Mine were broken by the midwife during induction...most painful part of the whole thing for me but thankfully just a few seconds!

sunnyshowers · 11/09/2018 10:18

mine didn't break on st but on the twins I'd a constant dribble...like a light wee...so headed to hospital (drive myself grabbed a brekkie roll and coffee an route...was only 29 weeks so not for a second did I think this was real)
parked in the nearby shopping centre and as i walked towards the hospital I almost flooded the place....mortified. luckily it was v early and the few people that were around either kept going or turned on their heels

CountessVonBoobs · 11/09/2018 10:18

DC1 they went when I was in the birthing pool and fully dilated. DC2 they were broken for me when I was being induced at 37 weeks. Not very many people actually have them go before labour starts but no harm being prepared.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 11/09/2018 10:19

Mine broke on a hospital bed waiting for a midwife to book in my induction!

Didn't need it in the end and baby was here 9hours later.

riddles26 · 11/09/2018 10:20

I had been having contractions for 27+ hours, was in hospital and about to get into the pool when my waters broke.

Like a pp said, it is not common for waters breaking to be the first sign of labour (although you can see from the above posts that it does happen). It is much more common for the show and/or contractions to commence first. I would still place an incontinence mat under bed sheets together with mattress protector and have a couple of mats in your hospital bag/ car for journey to hospital just in case

CuppaSarah · 11/09/2018 10:21

First time they went in the lounge as a trickle during early labour. Second time they were broken before being induced. Third time(on Friday) the midwife popped them when I reached 9cm.

Mummyh2016 · 11/09/2018 10:22

I woke up on the morning of 37+6, pyjama bottoms felt a bit damp. Consulted dr Google, who said put a pad on and lie down for 30 mins. When I stood up 30 mins later it gushed all over my bedroom floor. I did have a mattress protector on the bed.

elliejjtiny · 11/09/2018 10:23

Dc1 in the birthing pool when I was pushing. Dc's 2, 3 and 4 in bed early in the morning. Dc5 on the sofa in the evening. Not sure about dc1 but the others were all a massive gush.

pinkbottle48 · 11/09/2018 10:24

Mine didn't break either MW had to do it agree with PP that wasn't fun along with a massive contraction Grin

IggyAce · 11/09/2018 10:24

With dc1 my waters went at 36+6 I was woken up by a fight in the pub carpark near our house, I got up to go to the loo and heard a pop and had a small trickle down both legs.
Dc2 waters went at 38weeks as I was dashing up the stairs for the loo at first I thought I had wet myself.

saoirse31 · 11/09/2018 10:24

Walking down the road, having just got off the bus. Was nearly home and it was dark!!

Bluelady · 11/09/2018 10:25

Two pregnancies and the waters didn't break either time.

pandasboo · 11/09/2018 10:26

Thank you everyone for sharing. Definitely going to get some pads for the bed just in case - and maybe a couple for the car for the journey too!!

In bed with both!
DD was a slow trickle as hind waters had broken but not fore waters. She was born two days later after drips and an eventual C section.

DS was an all in one pop! I woke up at about 2am and just had a feeling. Jumped out of bed and stood on the (luckily laminate) floor and it was a huge TV style splash. He was born 9 that night.

Rainbowtrees · 11/09/2018 10:28

All three during labour, twice the midwife broke them.

Giggorata · 11/09/2018 10:29

In both my two pregnancies, the waters have broken some time before contractions start.
Once, they broke through sheer temper! I was living in a squat at the time and wanted some peace from the communal area, so went to my room. But people kept on coming to the door, until I was fuming. Suddenly, it went pop and I felt a gush.. so I went to the nearby hospital I was booked into and was admitted, still dripping waters.
The labour ward was on the fourth or fifth floor and I don't like lifts, so I walked slowly up, on DP's arm, with a cleaning lady with mop and bucket following me a few steps behind. We were giggling at the absurdity of it all.

PhilomenaButterfly · 11/09/2018 10:30

Last time, when the midwife did a sweep before an induction which I ended up not needing.

UpstartCrow · 11/09/2018 10:31

I used a waterproof mattress protector and a towel under the sheet. I was glad I did, the mattress would have been ruined.

Creeper8 · 11/09/2018 10:31

mine never broke. they had to be broken in hospital all 4 times
