To ask you where and when your waters broke?

Posting for traffic.
I'm coming up to 37 weeks pregnant with my first and have (finally!) started my antenatal classes. We had a long discussion about waters breaking and how it can be a big gush or a slow drip, and it can happen anywhere and everywhere.
I'm thinking about putting down some puppy training pads under my bed sheet as our mattress is only two month old and I'm worried about it getting ruined!
WIBU to ask all you lovely mums when and where your waters broke? And what was it like?
Thanks Smile

When I was 10cm and ready to push!

ShutTheFridgeUp · 11/09/2018 11:00

DC1 they went as I was pushing at 38+5- a massive gush
DC 2 woke up to a small trickle at 7am at 39+4 and and 5 hours later they arrived.

Lauperr · 11/09/2018 11:00

In the car! I had just dropped my friend from NCT class who was pregnant and due the same day as me off at her car with her partner as her waters had just broken. We were out together when they went so I drove her home, waited for her partner and took them with their hospital bags to fetch their car. As they were turning round in the cul de sac I sat back in my car. As I sat down my waters just went "whoosh!!" up into my lap. Waved and smiled as my friend went by then rang my husband to let him know we'd need to valet the car Blush

I was 39+4. I had been up all night with mild backache and just generally unable to get comfortable. Got into bed for a bit of sleep at 10am and felt a huge pop followed by a gush when I jumped up. Labour started about 3 hours later and DD was born at 9pm.

Wispaismyfave · 11/09/2018 11:04

Well into labour in hospital both times, second time I spattered my husband when they spectacularly popped!

I thought they'd gone on two occasions before they actually did, turned out I'd just pissed myself, nice Grin.

Busybusybust · 11/09/2018 11:07

No 1 broken by midwife (which turned labour into a nightmare, the contractions suddenly became so strong). The other 3 - as the babies were born - a veritable tidal wave!

Dobbythesockelf · 11/09/2018 11:09

With my first the Dr broke them to induce labour.
With my 2nd it was my due date. I had been having contractions for around 3 hours. I got up out of bed to try and move around to try and ease them. As soon a I stood up they just sort of trickled down my leg. Nothing very dramatic. Scared my dh when I woke him up saying my waters had broken.

BillyAndTheSillies · 11/09/2018 11:17

Waters broke at 7am on my due date as I walked to the toilet.
No sign of labour so was booked for an induction the next day.
Arrived at the hospital and the midwife asked if I fancied a trip to the new Starbucks they'd just opened in the hospital so we hopped in the lift and a massive gush happened. Turns out it was only my hind waters that had gone before and the trip to Starbucks was cancelled. Still another 32 hours before DS arrived.

silkpyjamasallday · 11/09/2018 11:21

About an hour after arriving at hospital, 15 hours into my labour at about 9cm dilated. All over the Midwife's legs Blush it was explosive

silkpyjamasallday · 11/09/2018 11:22

A day after due date

UghFletcher · 11/09/2018 11:27

In hospital, broken by the midwives about 12 hours into labour

AnneWiddecombesHandbag · 11/09/2018 11:30

First time as I got up in the morning on my due date.

Second time I got up in the night for a wee so was on the toilet which was handy!

AnneWiddecombesHandbag · 11/09/2018 11:31

For both babies it was the first sign of labour and I don't have an contractions until about 12 hours later.

LynseyLou1982 · 11/09/2018 11:32

In tge delivery suite. All over the poor student midwifes facw during an exam at 8cms dilated

Beagadorsrock · 11/09/2018 11:35

First - induced at 40w on the dot due to slight issue with fluid, no luck for 2 days, so waters were nicely broken after the line for the epidural had gone in (ended up having contractions that I couldn't feel and act on and then went off to theatre and forceps delivery)

Second - induced at 40+10 (I think) ... induction worked very quickly in terms of pain, I peed out the pessary, so I asked if I could have a warm bath to relieve the pain (which the hcp s attributed to 'induction', not to actually being in labour), went into a bath tub (not a birthing thingy, as you're not allowed once you're in the intervention zone) and the moment I sat in the warm water felt a rip, felt like my insides were melting (in pain!) and saw some pink in the water. I was in so much intense pain that I could not get myself out of the bath - the midwife had to come and help my husband get me back to the room in a wheelchair, then examined me, was surprised that from pessary to total dilation it had been about 2 hours, and I think the babe came out less than an hour later (three or four pushes, kneeling on the bed)

ParkheadParadise · 11/09/2018 11:36

Dd1 broke by midwife.
Dd2 went to visit my mum in her care home on my due date. Water's went in the car park. DH and my sister were with me.
All I remember is my sister shouting to watch her new trainers 🙄. Dd2 arrived 40mins later having just made it to the hospital.

TheGateauIsInTheChateau · 11/09/2018 11:36

40+5 and when I went to the loo at 8am on a Saturday. I had to stand in the shower waiting for them to stop or calm down.

Definitely get the bed pads, good to put in the car and on the sofa as well. Smile

Also when you have your little one they can have naked play on them!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 11/09/2018 11:40

Both times in hospital.

Twice by midwife I assume with a giant hook (that makes it sound worse than it is, I doesn’t hurt), third time it went on it’s own as I climbed onto the bed after bouncing on a ball. I was in active labour both times (first two were twins in separate sacs).

My mum had a slow leak when she had me, was booked in for a sweep and the doc told her she was in labour!

DieAntword · 11/09/2018 11:41

First time at 42 weeks, already 9cm dilated when midwife broke it. Second time 41 weeks also 9cm dilated when I was pushing.

Hyperbolesoul · 11/09/2018 11:42

Dc1- midwife popped them.
DC2- broke on the toilet Smile
Dc3- broke leaving the hospital after booking in for induction!

All 3 where like a monsoon erupting. And, the hind waters when just as volumeous, babies appearing into the world via waterslide!

GaryWilmotsTeeth · 11/09/2018 11:44

the midwife tried to break them about 18 hours into a v long labour but couldn't because DD's head was in the wrong place and blocking the way.
they eventually went a further 18 hours later as I was sitting very still on the hospital bed while they put the spinal in for my emcs. it was very difficult to stay still while having a huge wave of waters flooding out and having a contraction.

Runoutofgas · 11/09/2018 11:45

DS1 was induced and the didn't properly go until halfway through labour.
DS2 was in a coffee shop a couple of days overdue and felt them start leaking - I was sure I was already in early labour but started timing contractions and headed to the hospital pretty sharpish!

Queenhoneybee · 11/09/2018 11:45

Ds1 in hospital, already in well established labour.

Ds2 in costa coffee 😬. Had to keep stopping off at various cafes/mc Donald's ladies en route back to my car to keep sorting myself out!

BevBrook · 11/09/2018 11:47

Both times in hospital with the hooky thing. I didn't really notice, I had other things on my mind.
