I got this from an antique shop and I love it but my DH is not too sure and I want to know if it is just me that likes it. It is nearly 80 years old.

I also love it and agree with the pp's that you need to paint your walls a lovely rich colour. Generally I prefer carpet to wooden floors but that would look great with a dark wood floor and luxurious rug. Although that carpet does look fairly new so not sure how your DH would feel about ripping it up! Lamps definitely. In the right setting it will look stunning.

OP if you do revamp the room to match please come back and post an update pic! I'd love to see it.

Tartsamazeballs · 07/09/2018 18:12

Oh god no I can smell it from here 😂 sorry!

Toyboysrus · 07/09/2018 18:12

I'm the opposite of everyone else, I like the fabric but not the shape. The sofa looks so uncomfy! Sofas should be squishy and long enough to lie on for evening tv viewing.

Badtasteflump · 07/09/2018 18:14

I like the look of it but I would need to try it out - it doesn't look like the kind of sofa you can flop into, and any sofa of mine needs to be floppable.

And sorry but from the pic it looks a bit clashy with the carpet..... and I don't like the cabinet playing peek-a-boo behind the door - could you move it a bit?

Shambu · 07/09/2018 18:16

It would cost the same to re-upholster as it would to buy a new sofa.

ShowerOfShite · 07/09/2018 18:17

I agree with PP.
Sofa or chair, not both.

Also think it needs a much grander room/decor

Love the shape

BackforGood · 07/09/2018 18:19

I'm not agreeing about the 'nice shape' - the back is too low on the settee for me.

The pattern wouldn't be my taste but isn't as offensive as some people are making out, IMO.

ButchyRestingFace · 07/09/2018 18:19

Oh Lord, my eyes!!! 😵😵😵

There should have been a TRIGGER warning in the thread title. 😥

nononsene · 07/09/2018 18:23

I love the shape of it. Not overly keen on the pattern but the surroundings don’t help.

abigailsnan · 07/09/2018 18:23

I think it is great and would dress it up with cream big cushions the extra large ones (26x26) or cream throws draped over the arms.
Paint the walls in a high shine very pale gold paint change that display unit the wood is the wrong colour.
I must add that did you check for a fire safty label as the Antique shop you bought it from are not allowed to sell furnishing without one, when I worked for a well known charity this is why we could not accept gifts of furniture without the label.

Bombardier25966 · 07/09/2018 18:24

I'd keep the chair and get it upholstered (and cleaned, it looks pretty grim right now), but the sofa is awful. It might work in a period property, but in yours it just looks like an hand me down sofa.

DownstairsMixUp · 07/09/2018 18:24

It looks like my parents sofa in our lounge in 1987. Gross! Sorry!

Hoppinggreen · 07/09/2018 18:25

Not my cuppa but then it’s not in my lounge!

BarbraDear · 07/09/2018 18:25

Yikes.

It looks like people died on it. Lots of people.

And maybe a few cats.

I have no idea how you are going to make that look nice.

Bombardier25966 · 07/09/2018 18:26

@abigailsnan Basically hide the sofa and change the house? Wink

Ginorchoc · 07/09/2018 18:26

Would look good in a character house.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/09/2018 18:26

Is beautiful!

I also like your wall colour - is it a sort of oyster colour, or is that just the effect of the lighting?

Hertha · 07/09/2018 18:27

Is it brand new?

Might seem like a silly question but I can easily imagine that taking over 80 years to sell.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 07/09/2018 18:28

I could live with the chair in the right room, but I dislike the sofa/the whole thing as a suite. Sorry OP!

RavenLG · 07/09/2018 18:30

Needs to be in the right setting. This isn't it. It's clear this isn't your style so I'd give it away to somewhere it would fit in.

ana18 · 07/09/2018 18:31

Not my taste I would worry what's living in it also hahahahaha I'm clean freak though

katzensocken · 07/09/2018 18:33

I love antiques but that's pretty hideous to me, sorry.

FWIW I tend to like some 'ugly' retro things like certain 80s American interiors and stuff, but I probably wouldn't have them myself unless I had a New York loft or something and could really commit to the look, haha.

If you like it, that's what matters though.

katzensocken · 07/09/2018 18:34

PS I also agree with others that maybe the chair is worth keeping on its own but the sofa is a bit too much alongside!

ShatnersBassoon · 07/09/2018 18:36

Well, it will be a wonderful talking point.

Livinglavidal0ca · 07/09/2018 18:37

Love the shape a lot! That fabric is AWFUL! I actually hate everything about the fabric, colour, design and material Grin however if you love it then do not let my opinion put you off Wine
