I got this from an antique shop and I love it but my DH is not too sure and I want to know if it is just me that likes it. It is nearly 80 years old.

Recovered yes, as is, no

MotsDHeureGoussesRames · 07/09/2018 18:39

Sorry, hideous.

BlueSuffragette · 07/09/2018 18:40

Not for me, good job we're all different.

AaaaaaarghhhWhereAreMyKeys · 07/09/2018 18:41

They look extremely comfy and I'm loving the shape but not the fabric, especially as the colour doesn't really go with your carpet. I agree with the suggestions of either adding plain cushions or reupholstering (but that would be £££).

If you go for the latter can we please help choose the fabric Wink?

Enjoli · 07/09/2018 18:41

I'm sorry. But I absolutely hate it.

You'd probably hate all my things.

Slightlyjaded · 07/09/2018 18:42

Good shape

Fabric could be good

But as pp have said, you need to work on the room. The modern cabinet, bland walls and neutral carpet and killing it. This is why it looks a bit granny and not cool.

You need wooden floors
Rich Heritage coloured walls
Other pieces with more personality

and to pull them away from the walls.

Huge potential, just needs work (like most school reports, then) :)

CoperCabana · 07/09/2018 18:42

I am not sure if it’s a bit Laurence Llewelyn Bowen?

traceyturnblatt · 07/09/2018 18:43

@SecretWitch you have a mourning room? That sounds amazing!

Also, sorry OP but I'd keep the chair and wave bye to the sofa as it walks itself out the door!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 07/09/2018 18:44

It needs to be in the right setting like the photo but even then the fabric is really really grim and needs updating

It reminds me a bit of the Emperor’s New Clothes. I keep looking at your photo thinking if I had more interior design style flair I might find these delightful. I really don’t though, they are blimmin’ awful!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 07/09/2018 18:49

I think secret must mean Morning room, mourning room gives me visions of when dead relatives were laid out for viewing in the front parlour......

Claray · 07/09/2018 18:49

I saw a very similar (could be the same one I was just passing) sofa in an antique shop window only this morning. Wonder if it is the same one or there's two?

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 07/09/2018 18:52

No OP don't do it. Not onlt is the cover hoorible but we inherited DH's grandparents chesterfield exactly like that one. Cost a bomb to recover and was the single most uncomfortable sofa ever. It had a weird back bum leg ratio that suited noone. We ended up siting on the floor with our backs against it until the horsehair began to go mouldy after 25 years.

bellsbuss · 07/09/2018 18:52

If I brought that home my OH would take it in the garden and set fire to it

thegardenfairy · 07/09/2018 18:53

Not my taste - sorry! :(

Neshoma · 07/09/2018 18:57

Oh Betty was just going to say the same.

Mourning is very apt.

traceyturnblatt · 07/09/2018 19:00

I had images of a mourning room as a dark, library type room where everyone sips small whiskeys and sherry's and stares into a fire whilst a storm rages outside.

I think I need to cut back on reading murder mysteries!

MadisonAvenue · 07/09/2018 19:01

I love the shape!

Is that a Laurel and Hardy boxset that you have?

Lucyccfc · 07/09/2018 19:03

Really sorry, but all I can think of when I look at it is 'flea-ridden old sofa that stinks of pee'.

crazydoglady6867 · 07/09/2018 19:05

msdison yes it is. Quite in keeping with my sofa😂😂

beachysandy81 · 07/09/2018 19:05

I kind of like it. Might be better to keep just keep the sofa and match it with a plainer chair. Not sure it goes too well with all the modern decor though. Also, that low back doesn't look comfy!

HavelockVetinari · 07/09/2018 19:08

The fabric would work in a massive room with large fire place and lots of other antiques. Not sure a standard size front room in a semi can take that pattern. Lovely shape though, and if you like brocade you could reupholster in a less busy pattern.

IgglePigglesAnnoyingGiggle · 07/09/2018 19:08

My husband and would laugh in my face if I came home with that. I like it though OP. Once you've got it in the right setting please come back with more pictures!

Jeippinghmip · 07/09/2018 19:09

Jesus Christ, it’s hideous.🤮
