I got this from an antique shop and I love it but my DH is not too sure and I want to know if it is just me that likes it. It is nearly 80 years old.

It's horrendous imo. Just looking at it is making me itch. Not because of the possibility of fleas but just what I imagine that fabric feels like. Quite like the shape of it though. Won't it cost a fortune to re upholster? Also interested to know why you chose a new build when you clearly appreciate the traditional? I'm speaking as someone who bought an old house that had been modernised and am putting the old/trad back in....

flumpybear · 09/09/2018 09:27

Sorry, horrible, I think perhaps I don't do vintage jumble sale I prefer nice and new when it comes to furniture and clothes ... and cars

crazydoglady6867 · 09/09/2018 09:29

Blue sheep. I chose the location and DH chose the property. He really didn’t want to move house but gave in eventually. We are polar opposites where style is concerned. I have some and he doesn’t😂😂

It wouldn’t be out of place in one of these beautiful rooms. Google Hazlitt’s hotel in London and look through their sister hotels too for some ideas.

crazydoglady actually, I think it looks great when people 'traditionalise' new houses. There are often examples of it in many of the interiors magazines, I like it because it's kind of unexpected from the outside. If you have a strong sense of style and are a fan of a certain period then you really should go for it. Throughout the whole house.

PowerPantsRule · 09/09/2018 09:55

Oh NO!! I can't believe you lovely lot agree with DH! ARgh back to the drawing board.

I love your sofa Bluntness. You're right though...it's all about the setting. And we have no room big enough for the Roche Bobois one either :-(

MaryBoBary · 09/09/2018 10:10

Is this a joke? It is truly awful OP. Please don’t make your OH suffer this monstrosity!!!

Bluntness100 · 09/09/2018 10:42

Thanks power pants and agree it is about the setting, from thr house to the decor.

Op, I do think thr main issue is it doesn't suit the rest of the room. You could defo do something with it, to make it more in keeping with its surroundings though.

This style is really popular now and up cycling is huge with designers. As some have said look on pintetest/www and get ideas for other items to go with. The white Wales and large ornate mirror sound fab. As someone who normally goes for plain stuff I love it Smile

smilingontheinside · 09/09/2018 11:36

Walls not Wales Blush

Talith · 09/09/2018 11:37

It needs burning! It's a no from me!

Deadbudgie · 09/09/2018 11:42

Not my thing but I can see
Why you like them. But I think you need to commit to this styling and go the whole hog with the decor of the room otherwise they look like something you inherited from granny and can’t be bothered to replace

pollymere · 09/09/2018 13:47

If your house is over 80 years old too, then it's lovely. Otherwise it might look a bit odd.

wowfudge · 09/09/2018 14:44

My house is over 80 years old and I wouldn't give that house room.

Bluntness100 · 09/09/2018 14:58

So cmon op, what are you going to do with thr room? It seems the overwheling consensus is leaving it as is isn't going to work.🤣

PickAChew · 09/09/2018 15:04

It needs this.

Harleypuppy · 09/09/2018 15:22

I think the walls should be painted dark red and a huge mirror with an ornate gold frame around it. Dark wood floor. Faded red , large rug on the floor. Velvet curtains. In dark almost black red, or black.

crazydoglady6867 · 09/09/2018 15:49

bluntness I have to work slowly on the DH to make any changes, I don’t want to push my luck after getting the suite, I would like an oak floor stained dark and a peacock blue feature wall with some crushed velvet curtains, my first job though is getting him to agree to having a fireplace put in.Grin

yumyumpoppycat · 09/09/2018 15:52

Have you sat on the sofa yet?

Bluntness100 · 09/09/2018 15:55

I reckon it's an easy job to convince him, he can't think it works in situ 🤣

Washedwithrain · 09/09/2018 16:02

The shape is nice, the fabric awful. Is the photo in your house? Being really blunt, the sofa and chair dont look like they would fit the era of your house.

@ForgivenessIsDivine that sofa is pretty. There is an almost identical suite in a brocante near us in France - same shape and similar colour fabric.

crazydoglady6867 · 09/09/2018 16:24

yumyum. We have and it is do much more comfortable than the chesterfield we have just got rid of, we love it even my DH had to admit the quality and comfort is second to none.

It's not to my taste at all, I don't like patterned sofas much and I prefer a big squishy sofa that you can sink into, and you'd probably hate my big, cream cushiony sofa!
