I got this from an antique shop and I love it but my DH is not too sure and I want to know if it is just me that likes it. It is nearly 80 years old.

I bet it reeks of piss

OriginalGeordie · 07/09/2018 17:37

I like the shape of it but that’s it, sorry OP! I don’t think it works in your front room either.

CheeseAndOnionIceCream · 07/09/2018 17:37

I like the shape of it but not the pattern.

MrBeansXmasTurkey · 07/09/2018 17:38

Its a bit patterny.

PrivateDoor · 07/09/2018 17:38

Sorry op I hate it! Only being honest because of your thread title, if you were my friend and I came in I would be polite Grin

It doesn't work in that room at all,you will have to redecorate and change the flooring just to match your suite. I hope it wasn't expensive? Would you consider having it recovered?

ErrolTheDragon · 07/09/2018 17:39

If it's lasted 80 years it must be a good frame, and the shape is fine. I'd get it reupholstered.

amusedbush · 07/09/2018 17:40

It's fucking hideous, in my very humble opinion Grin

BigBlueBubble · 07/09/2018 17:40

It’s awful, sorry. Looks pretty tatty and worn too.

Moominfan · 07/09/2018 17:40

I'm not a fan. Love a brown leather which is a big Mumsnet No-no apparently

2cats2many · 07/09/2018 17:41

I love the sofa but the armchair is overkill. I would keep the sofa and complement with interesting and contrasting armchairs.

ChuChuUa · 07/09/2018 17:41

It looks like the kind of sofa Alf Garnett would die on.

pandarific · 07/09/2018 17:42

In a vair grand house, with high ceilings and interesting wallpaper and possibly a parrakeet in a dangly cage, I would like.

I think in your fairly normal room, it looks somewhat accidental, like grandmas left you her sofa in the will. Sorry op! Sad

This is why we can't have the battered lovely old chesterfields I like - because they will look ridiculous in my little living room.

Mrsmadevans · 07/09/2018 17:42

I am sorry OP l don't like your suite at all, however l am loving the £10 one.... that is gorgeous.

grumiosmum · 07/09/2018 17:43

You must be fucking joking.

It's monstrous. I live in a period house with period furniture & wouldn't let that anywhere near.

pigsDOfly · 07/09/2018 17:44

Keep looking at the picture in the hope that it'll improve. Not working so far I'm afraid.

Ironfloor269 · 07/09/2018 17:44

It's just you, love.

I hate it.

MarthaArthur · 07/09/2018 17:44

brokenharbour thats gorgeous! I agree op lovely sofa and chair but not with your current room at all.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 07/09/2018 17:44

I agree with the PP who said it could look great in an architecturally beautiful room, decorated stylishly. In a normal and otherwise bare room it risks looking like something a landlord shoves in a bedsit to call it furnished.

It's like how vintage clothes look amazing on a model who has had her hair and makeup done by experts, but would make me look like a homeless person.

dontgobaconmyheart · 07/09/2018 17:44

ooh i do sort of like them and think they could be quite cool - in the right setting. Nothing wrong with your room OP but i think its just too neutral/modern/looking for the vibes of those chairs - The sofas don't go with the carpet or your other furniture in my opinion so they aren't being done justice - I think they need wood floors, big period fireplace, rugs, bright pops of colour, statement picture walls, a darker room really.
The chairs are a gorgeous shape though!

SecretNutellaFix · 07/09/2018 17:44

I love the shape of them, but that fabric is utterly revolting.

I'm sure it must have been stunning when it was new, but nowadays I think it's extremely fussy, and the uneven wear on the dye makes it seems even more so.

SaucyJack · 07/09/2018 17:44

It looks awful with that carpet. Like a HMO for students where the landlord has shoved any shite in the front room.

Would look fab with dark green walls and real wood floors. In a Victorian house.

DarlingNikita · 07/09/2018 17:45

I think it looks like something from a grainy photo in one of those dreadful news stories where the police break into an unassuming suburban house and then it's all over the tabloids called 'a HOUSE OF HORRORS'.

Sorry.

FarrahMoan · 07/09/2018 17:45

blueeyesandspitfire that's lush!

sanssherif · 07/09/2018 17:45

Pmsl Tawdry that was an excellent explanation!!

colbyandmontysmum · 07/09/2018 17:45

I love the shape of it but would get it reupholstered
