I got this from an antique shop and I love it but my DH is not too sure and I want to know if it is just me that likes it. It is nearly 80 years old.

Only smells a bit...! 🤢😷

Your husband is very understanding...

lastqueenofscotland · 07/09/2018 17:47

I like antiques but I think that’s minging
Sorry

Mummadeeze · 07/09/2018 17:51

I see it in an ironic, stylised photo shoot with clashing patterned wall paper and models in retro clothes. It really doesn’t look right to me in your room but I don’t hate it in theory. I think you need to really work on the styling of your room to pull it off... but the other thing is, it doesn’t look in the best condition. I sort of feel like there might be fleas in it. I admire your bravery though in trying something unique in your front room.

SecretWitch · 07/09/2018 17:53

I like it but I live in a crumbling Victorian heap. I would put it in our mourning room. Looks suitably creepy.....but not in a bad way.

Unfortunately, I think once furniture has an odour, it’s time to go

Bluntness100 · 07/09/2018 17:53

I think the consensus is it doesn't work in your room as is op.

Sorry. I'd also say the armchair is over kill, you need either the sofa or the armchair, not both.

The ten pound one is horrific, sorry not sorry, 🤣

Kahlua4me · 07/09/2018 17:54

Whoops that didn’t work to well! Not sure how to link to a particular article, sorry 😀

BigusBumus · 07/09/2018 17:55

The sofa and chair are actually lovely, but not in a modern box sitting room. Needs a grand Victorian, Georgian or Edwardian setting with deep skirting boards, stripped wide boards, picture rail, plaster work, chandelier, bold artwork, big fireplace. Your room would look better with a plain modern one from Loaf or similar.

crazydoglady6867 · 07/09/2018 17:55

It's like how vintage clothes look amazing on a model who has had her hair and makeup done by experts, but would make me look like a homeless person. Tawdry. That is so funny and maybe a bit right😂😂😂

Umm, I hate it sorry. It was discarded for a reason me thinks.

LongSummerDays · 07/09/2018 17:57

You need a bright rug and something (not necessarily a picture) on the walls.

deepsea · 07/09/2018 17:57

Also it looks like it has come out of a stately home, is that going to suit the rest of your room/house?? It probably has seen lots of action over the years. You need to change your carpets and wall colour and shift out that thing behind the door if you are set on keeping it.

GinPink · 07/09/2018 17:58

It's horrid in every way. Sorry OP Thanks

PlatypusPie · 07/09/2018 17:58

The shape yes, the fabric no. Maybe it looks better IRL

Petalflowers · 07/09/2018 17:58

It would lovely in the right setting, but not in a modern house.

Looks really well made,

Thatsfuckingshit · 07/09/2018 17:58

It's horrible. It may look decent if it was a magazine shoot and the room styled just right. Styled right, but impractical as a lot of magazines shoots are.

It looks old, faded it parts and not in great condition.

Kaykay06 · 07/09/2018 17:58

I think reupholstered it’d give it a new lease of life as I like the shape but the fabric is awful and it’d smell better and last longer as I bet it’s comfy

gimeallthecake · 07/09/2018 17:59

I think it's lovely it just needs to be re-upholstered! And the room redecorated. I'd go for navy velvet on the suit and timber floors something like attached.

I like it, as am an oldie, but it would look nicer in a more oldie type environment. old cottage,or farmhouse whatever. My son would like it too, he lives in a very old farmhouse property, and bought chairs and stuff very much the same as over the years..

crazydoglady6867 · 07/09/2018 17:59

I am willing to work on the room and make it fit in. I once bought a tap and made a new kitchen to match it so it is a work in progress. No fleas and no piss smellGrin I had it all checked over. It may look tatty but it actually isn’t and for its age is in great condition.

RomanyRoots · 07/09/2018 17:59

I like it and so would my dh, but agree with pp it needs to be in a quirky room.
I'd put it with rich colours like reds, greens, purples. Obviously the right shades. Grin

FrogFairy · 07/09/2018 18:03

Is it comfy though? This is the most important thing.

I love old stuff too. I bought a mid century skipper sofa from eBay intending to get it reupholstered. The quote was over £2k which is more than it would be worth. I think the guy gave me an inflated quote because he didn’t want the job.

Snog · 07/09/2018 18:03

Might look good with different decor but doesn't look good in the photo imo.

But what matters is if YOU like it OP cos it's your house and you should fill it it with things you love.

WaxOnFeckOff · 07/09/2018 18:04

Nice shape but the pattern is hideous.

ButtermilkBiscuits · 07/09/2018 18:07

I'm sorry but that's hideous!

wegotthis · 07/09/2018 18:10

Lovely shape but yes, needs to be upholstered. Perhaps in a deep jewel colour - green or blue - in velvet? And the cabinet doesn't go.
But if you love it OP stick with it: it's your house, not ours!!
