NC as potentially outing.

£45 pair of trainers look like this after 6weeks of wear, manufacturer says its 'wear and tear'. My son is 3.5 years, size 11.5 shoes.

AIBU in thinking this isn't normal wear and tear?

Pics are of ours and a google image of the nearest equivalent!

6 weeks of daily wear?
totally normal.
they look just scuffed not broken.

LIZS · 05/09/2018 16:10

Scooter, bike ?

Sirzy · 05/09/2018 16:11

Looks like he has been scuffing his toes along something?

melissasummerfield · 05/09/2018 16:11

I would agree thats excessive! I have two boys of a similar age and clarks shoes ( same price bracket ) sometimes dont even look scruffy by the time their feet have grown 4/5/6 months later.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/09/2018 16:11

normal in my opinion, id buy cheaper shoes- if they arent getting scuffed from the running about they will grow out of them too quickly.

MarthasGinYard · 05/09/2018 16:12

Looks like toe down scootering or biking.

If you still have receipt you could give it a try but I wouldn't be too optimistic

EmeraldVillage · 05/09/2018 16:12

Looks like he has been dragging his toes along the ground.

ThanosSavedMe · 05/09/2018 16:12

Scooter?

CloudCaptain · 05/09/2018 16:13

Wow. He has big feet.

youmeandconchitawurst · 05/09/2018 16:13

yabu: manufacturer is probably right - it looks like they're scraping their toes (maybe using a scooter or when sitting on a chair?). also, might be worth checking that their toes aren't tight to the tops - it's scary how fast the feet sometimes grow - that can cause weird wear patterns.

we've used geox for years because they're so hard wearing - even my most careless kid can't seem to trash them.

sorry - not what you want to hear becuase they're expensive.

MarthasGinYard · 05/09/2018 16:13

They don't looked 'destroyed' I'm thinking they are still wearable ....but scuffed.

Witchend · 05/09/2018 16:13

Looks normal for either dd2 or D's.
Dd1 would have identical shoes and they'd look perfectly new 6 months down the line.

VodkaRevelation · 05/09/2018 16:14

I’d agree it looks more than usual wear and tear but possibly because of toe scuffing/ dragging.

BikeRunSki · 05/09/2018 16:15

They are not destroyed! They are scuffed, they still function as shoes. IME they are in good condition for 6 weeks daily wear by a 3.5 year old!

GorgonLondon · 05/09/2018 16:15

He's a 3 1/2 year old boy and they're his daily shoes? I think they look practically pristine. My son destroys shoes and clothes in weeks

flyingsaucersherbet · 05/09/2018 16:15

Ds shoes all look like this after about a month. He scoots and also walks inwards on his feet. Geox are usually one of the more indestructible brands mind!

CloudCaptain · 05/09/2018 16:16

Seriously though, I have a 2yo and 4yo and neither have damaged their shoes like this from almost daily wear all summer. Neither drag their feet for scooting or biking yet though...

ReallyExhaustedLlama · 05/09/2018 16:17

We got a similar pair of Geoxx a few weeks ago and I was also really surprised how badly they wore. Even after the first wear you could visibly see deterioration. As I got them in the sale I have put up with them but will avoid in future.

HopelessWanderer · 05/09/2018 16:21

Children + Shoes = Nightmare for parents

Children scuff their shoes, that looks like what has happened here. So as they're not visibly falling apart, I think the shop assistant / manufacturer has every right to say that's wear and tear.

Whether you buy expensive trainers or cheap trainers the outcome will be the same. So it's motivation maybe not to go too crazy when buying shoes as boys in particular play sports, they scuff the shoes and so forth.

I know you wanted people to agree with you, but unless you can show a picture where something is hanging off, or the stitching is coming undone on an area where you wouldn't expect wear, then it's just one of them things.

An example, a friend got coaxed into spending a lot of money when they got a car, on some stuff that was said to repel dirt and stop scratches. Obviously quite expensive, obviously too good to be true. When they complained they were missold the product, they were told well if you read the warranty you have to do all these daft things, otherwise the car will gather muck.

Similar kind of concept, if your DC drags their feet on the ground they will scuff their shoes, whether a £10 pair or £100 pair.

You learn pretty quick that children and shoes/clothes plus playing / walking / dragging feet (particularly boys) will cause damage, so you go for the cheaper option which is just as good. You can still have shoes / trainers for best for going out in, just not playing sports / general day to day stuff.

Hope this helps.

MarthasGinYard · 05/09/2018 16:21

It's that shiny edge around the trainer, looks like the plastic peels off easily

I Always avoid this kind of trainer for this reason

Worieddd · 05/09/2018 16:24

Wow. He has big feet.

He really does! ShockGrin

itsaboojum · 05/09/2018 16:29

Plenty of 3 year olds would have them in a worse state inside 6 days, never mind 6 weeks.

Aeroflotgirl · 05/09/2018 16:29

My ds was the same, I got him these Geox as a toddler and they lasted a year (until his feet grew) and still looked as good as new.

Aeroflotgirl · 05/09/2018 16:31

They have a nice strong anti scuff barrier round the front, that is what you need to look out for.

vitaminC · 05/09/2018 16:32

Looks like normal wear and tear to me.

I deliberately always bought my kids leather shoes for school, so they could be polished up when they got scuffed. I think the problem is that scuffed trainers just look scruffy and can't be polished up. Maybe buy leather shoes next time?
