NC as potentially outing.

£45 pair of trainers look like this after 6weeks of wear, manufacturer says its 'wear and tear'. My son is 3.5 years, size 11.5 shoes.

AIBU in thinking this isn't normal wear and tear?

Pics are of ours and a google image of the nearest equivalent!

@shoess of he isn't purposefully dragging his feet on the ground for fun/he participated in some kind of activity outside the scope of general wear to cause this then I would consider the possibility that there is something wrong with the way he walks. It's perfectly reasonable that after six months a number of missteps etc would result in this kind of scuffing but after just six weeks either her has been doing something our of the ordinary or he walks incorrectly.

Zoflorabore · 06/09/2018 21:17

My dd wrecks shoes more than my ds ever did!

He's always had big feet too op, started school age 4 in a size 2, was in an adult size 8 at the age of 8 and roughly grew a shoe size a year. Left primary school in size 10 and kept growing until he was a size 14 at 14.

He's 15 now and thank god he is still a 14. They have finally stopped growing Grin

Sorry not rtft so this might have been said. I bought a pair of geox once that did the same, at that sort of age any cheap pair of shoes (I know geox aren't cheap) would do the same and son was banned from having any shoes except Clark's rubber toe caps until I was sure that he wasn't spending 50% or his day dragging his toes round on the floor. He spent a couple of years in black school type trainers as they were the only rubber toe caps they did in bigger sizes. I would never buy geox again though. My boys only ever have one pair of trainers on the go and I expect them to stay in one piece for the few months it takes to outgrow them.

masterchef98 · 06/09/2018 21:39

I've started reading now. Scuffed? Those are worn through to the lining!

Sparklyhousedust · 06/09/2018 21:45

Geox are crap. I had a pair wear through the front so dc’s toe could be seen and the soles on both shoes detached. I had them 4 weeks. They refused to replace or refund. I will never buy them again- £50 for 4 weeks!!

purplebunny2012 · 06/09/2018 21:47

My son ruined a pair of shoes the day I bought them when he was 3! Thankfully I wouldn't pay anything like £45 for a pair of trainers for a young child with quickly growing feet

purplebunny2012 · 06/09/2018 21:49

CountFosco my son has the exact same shoes! StartRite sale

Boulty · 06/09/2018 21:53

Looks like he uses his toes to stop the swing/roundabout/scooter.. quite normal wear and tear and the shoes are scuffed but not destroyed

AfterSchoolWorry · 06/09/2018 22:00

Never really heard of Geox, found this on trustpilot ie.trustpilot.com/review/geox.com

Not good.

I nearly always stick to NIKE or Adidas, they wear really well. H&M and primark are fine too.

nearlythesummer · 06/09/2018 22:05

You wait until he starts skateboarding-the shoes (& clothes) you’ll try through!

manicmij · 06/09/2018 22:09

These are trainers, not school shoes. With six weeks wear look normal to me. Scuffed at the front. Would this me due to toes being used to stop a scooter, bike, swing, perhaps. Actually after six weeks surprised they still fit.

Sparrowlegs248 · 06/09/2018 22:18

I don't think the shoes are to blame. Ds1 had a sturdy pair of boots from clarks with a good rubber buffer around. We went out with his smart trike and a few seconds of dragging his toe had made a mess of the front of one boot. I chopped a bit off with scissors and he carried on wearing them. The front looked a bit odd but the boots were still fine.

icelolly99 · 06/09/2018 22:53

Op; The shoes worn by your child are a different design to the ones in the other photo!

shoess · 06/09/2018 23:03

@icelolly99 they are the same other than the screenshot are two Velcro's and ours have elastic laces and one Velcro. It was to show how the front was when they were new.

My DS grows overnight then doesn't grow for months. We've never bought shoes due to wearing out, only outgrown or wrong season so I've been happy to spend ££ for good fitting, well supporting shoes.

Your son is 3 and an 11.5!!!!

shoess · 06/09/2018 23:15

@Jeanclaudejackety haha yes, well he's 3.5years. He's in age 4-5 clothes but I'm hoping he'll stay the same for a bit now! Although he's eating a lot again which is normally a sign a growth spurt is on its way!

shoess · 06/09/2018 23:18

@AfterSchoolWorry - those reviews are awful! I'll take my free pair and never buy them again!

My dniece just started secondary school on size 1 shoes. My dd is reception and a size 8 and I thought that was average to large! I'm realising my family might have miniature feet?!

Blueink · 07/09/2018 01:13

Agree he has scraped his toes at some point - my DS ruined a pair of shoes in just one outing doing this

Blueink · 07/09/2018 01:15

Had Geox kids trainers and found them particularly hard wearing - almost like new when handed down

brittabot · 07/09/2018 01:32

-OP- what county are you in? My 6 year old is tall and in size 12 shoes. Anyway those scuffs look normal to me.
We stick with Clark’s - they are hard wearing and customer service at the store is always good.

AjasLipstick · 07/09/2018 02:23

One of my DDs destroys shoes very quickly. I accept it now. I don't spend 45 pounds on trainers though....it's just not worth it. Cheap ones last her the same amount of time.

BusterGonad · 07/09/2018 02:51

Are these shoes real leather? Fake leather always peels away. False economy (well not at £45) imo.

Coconutspongexo · 07/09/2018 03:42

I have nothing to add other than your son does not need to go to a doctor ffs some posters are awful dramatic

HoppingPavlova · 07/09/2018 04:14

No idea why you would get new shoes now? I would save the voucher and just get a new pair when he grows out of these. He still has lots of work to do on the current pair before trashing them so they are 'destroyed'.
