NC as potentially outing.

£45 pair of trainers look like this after 6weeks of wear, manufacturer says its 'wear and tear'. My son is 3.5 years, size 11.5 shoes.

AIBU in thinking this isn't normal wear and tear?

Pics are of ours and a google image of the nearest equivalent!

Maybe you should set a lower budget next time OP. If that's your beef that ds wrecked his shoes so quickly there's no point in spending that amount of money. Unless you can afford it of course.

shoess · 07/09/2018 05:11

@brittabot curious to know the relevance but I'm in East Yorkshire.

@BusterGonad I think you've hit the nail on the head. I've just checked and not leather. I was totally ripped off.

I've been paying £40-£50 happily as in the past they've lasted. His first pair of shoes were a 5, and we skipped a lot of sizes. So in 2.5 years of walking I think we've only had 5 pairs of shoes, other than wellies and 2 pairs of 'best shoes' for weddings and christenings. We can afford them at that rate, but not when they look so tatty so quickly.

@Dippingmytoesin - thanks, I panicked for a moment!

It does look like normal wear and tear to me.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 07/09/2018 06:02

Plenty of life in them yet! Just have them specifically for play shoes.
Don’t know why people are getting twisted about the price though, I don’t think any of my kids shoes cost much less than 45 quid!

As a recommendation though, converse and Adidas seem to last for ever.

BusterGonad · 07/09/2018 06:28

Yes Op non leather footwear is rubbish, and they make your feet sweat and stink. Definitely always go leather if you can.

BusterGonad · 07/09/2018 06:28

I think £45 for non leather shoes is daylight robbery!

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 07/09/2018 06:40

Get down to sports direct ! Geox to good for little boys to trash (and girls !)

MissWimpyDimple · 07/09/2018 07:01

Geox are fab shoes.

I've always thought trainers like that are way too flimsy for a little one.

My DD always has geox (she has sweaty feet!) and they last really well. She's high school now though.

Whatdoyouthinkyouare · 07/09/2018 07:47

My two shred their shoes in weeks but I have a toe walker and a flat footed child.
But as stated previously it COULD be an issue with walking. The big clue with mine was they were always tripping themselves up running and ended up with holes in every pair of trousers and scrapes on knees and elbows at least once a week. I saw their GP who refered them to an orthotist and they both now have orthotics in their shoes and don't wreck them quite as much. Just shoe scuffing is normal for active kids but other signs then may be take it further. Smile

shoess · 07/09/2018 08:57

@Whatdoyouthinkyouare thanks for the clarification, he doesn't fall much. I think we've only had one graze the whole summer.

I think Geox were good to replace them tbh. The front bit has clearly worn away from either foot dragging when walking, breaking with feet on a bike, scooter or roundabout or (as happened to my friends son) from something like playing a game of repeatedly kicking a wall.
If you don’t want it to happen to the new pair then you need to find out what your ds is doing that is scraping the front of his shoes and get him to stop as no shoes will stay looking new and intact if the front is being scraped on hard surfaces.

LilyChantilly · 08/09/2018 13:17

I've completely given up on Geox footwear. They used to be really well made but now seem to wear out very very quickly. I persisted with them for much longer than I should have because of the breathability being good for my DS's problematic feet but after the last 2 pairs (totally different styles) wore out after less than 3 months of normal use, that's it.

Both pairs were school shoes and weren't worn for sports or even for running round or playing football in the playground, weren't worn outside of school, but the outer soles wore through completely with massive holes in less than 3 months.

And funnily enough, when I contacted the manufacturer abut the first pair which were bought direct from their website, I was told it was due to 'wear and tear' and therefore no refund would be given. The second pair were luckily bought from TKMaxx who had no problem refunding.

And we're not alone - check out the dreadful online reviews! uk.trustpilot.com/review/geox.com

BikeRunSki · 08/09/2018 13:24

The Geox “Savage” range is excellent. The rest of their kids ‘ shoes..... not so much.

Dmacka75 · 08/09/2018 13:28

looks about normal for my 3.5 year old son too, but I totally feel your pain!

LilyChantilly · 08/09/2018 13:29

By the way, this was what the soles of the first pair (Geox Mania) looked like after less than 3 months of normal use. DS was in Year 5 and the shoes were a size 5 (he also has big feet!). The second pair looked much better quality - fully leather, including leather lining, appeared to be very sturdy. But the rubber soles are so crappy they just wear through in no time at all! And I know that DS doesn't run about wearing his shoes out at school break times because I work in the school Smile
