NC as potentially outing.

£45 pair of trainers look like this after 6weeks of wear, manufacturer says its 'wear and tear'. My son is 3.5 years, size 11.5 shoes.

AIBU in thinking this isn't normal wear and tear?

Pics are of ours and a google image of the nearest equivalent!

OP, You call those 'destroyed'? My DD used to shred (literally - and I mean literally, not in a teenage kind of way) a pair of Start Rites within a month. I switched to Start Rite in the hope they would outlive Clarks, but no luck. I did take a couple of pairs back (and they were replaced - they always created a bit of interest in our local children's shoe-shop). But the replacements only lasted a month in their turn.

It used to give me the rage - not because she'd shredded them, but because it was evident to me that girls' shoes were simply designed to look pretty, not to withstand any kind of reasonable activity. She does have brothers, so she was pretty rough-and-tumble as a small child - but girls' shoes should be able to withstand playground football and so on, without developing numerous holes. Grr.

Fortunately, she is now a teenager and wears vile clumpy trainers, so shoe-shredding is a thing of the past.

Happypuppy · 05/09/2018 16:34

Unhelpful, but in what way fgs is this “outing”?

Although “destroyed” seems a bit of an overreaction too.

It does look like normal wear and tear to me though sorry!

Dorigen · 05/09/2018 16:36

BTW, my sons had ordinary Clarks leather shoes, and they lasted until they grew out of them (and they were hardly careful of their shoes). Which I always felt rather proved my point about the uselessness of girls' shoes.

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 05/09/2018 16:38

Mine dan actually trash a pair, and I mean trash, in under a month. In primary I gave up buying Clark's shoes and just bought a new pair of cheap ones every month. Some kids really do destroy shoes and there's nothing you can do about it other than waiting until they're falling apart and replace or if you're minted, just replace frequently.

Stressedoutmamma · 05/09/2018 16:38

I brought a pair of sketchers for myself as work shoes 23 days later they had holes in the soles I took them back for a refund those shoes are scuffed not recked try doc martins my daughter has had a pair for 6 months and still look brand new

arethereanyleftatall · 05/09/2018 16:39

This looks like your ds has been scuffing them. Assuming he does, then My first port of call would be to tell my ds not to scuff, rather than complain to the manufacturer.

mycheapshoes · 05/09/2018 16:40

As a comparison here are my ds’s trainers which are about 3 months old. Worn virtually daily during the holidays for biking, scooting, football etc.

Destroyed is sticking coming home, hole developing etc

I suspect scooting damage too.

zerozerooneone · 05/09/2018 16:48

I found geox scuffed and marked very easily in the first few weeks but then never got any worse and carried on in the same state for months.
I wouldn't call those destroyed, definitely wearable.

TeenTimesTwo · 05/09/2018 16:48

I agree it looks like dragging the toe on the ground e.g. when on scooter or on a roundabout or climbing stuff.
It is more than 'scuffed' as the toe guard rubber or whatever has worn away.
Also possible it came a bit loose and it has been 'helped' by being picked at.

Rebecca36 · 05/09/2018 16:50

Perfect shoes! Trainers always look better a bit worn.

NonaGrey · 05/09/2018 16:51

Looks normal for a three year old I’m afraid.

(I feel your pain though)

TooMuchPenis · 05/09/2018 17:01

I can only assume he is dragging his big feet OP Grin They are the same size as my tallish 6 year old's!

DaphneFanshaw · 05/09/2018 17:01

They look ok to me too. One of my 4 year old dts managed to put holes in the front of his non scuffable shoes, they only lasted the first half term.
It is a pain, when you spend a fortune on shoes for small dc, I am prett sure my dts lived in wellies at that age for that reason.

mogonfoxnight · 05/09/2018 17:03

Geox are normally pretty good in leather for kids, I find. We started off with start-rite but the ones we chose were a bit like your photos other than the snowboots which were lovely but have been discontinued. Geox for ds since then and the leather ones still look great by the time ds grow out of them. ds is rough on shoes and we wear them in parks and fields and all sorts. The suede ones didn't last well though. I wouldn't be put off geox generally. I have some suede ones and they have lasted really well for me, and comfy.

Lunde · 05/09/2018 17:04

I don't think they look destroyed - they look a bit scuffed.

Some 3 year olds are pretty heavy on shoes - they drag their feet on scooters, bikes and swings, they climb things and they kick things.

paxillin · 05/09/2018 17:06

Agree with PPs, looks like a scooter foot dragger. Normal state after 6 weeks.

therealimposter · 05/09/2018 17:08

yes, that's normal.

Noodledoodledoo · 05/09/2018 17:10

My 2 and half year old boy has this on all his shoes as he is a toe dragger when walking, if I catch him I stop him but still kills the shoes!!

3WildOnes · 05/09/2018 17:15

I agree it looks like damage from toe dragging. I had to tell my children constantly to stop dragging their toes, or their shoes would look like that.

keyboardkate · 05/09/2018 17:22

I thought I would see a pic of the soles coming away or a big hole in them or something like that.

Nope. We are talking boys here. Normal wear and tear.

Keep your son inside, do not let him ride a bike or a scooter or walk or kick a ball. Then the shoes will be fine. LOL.

LeftRightCentre · 05/09/2018 17:24

Looks normal wear and tear to me, too.

KitKat1985 · 05/09/2018 17:24

My 3 year old's shoes looked worse than that after 6 weeks.

Just normal scuff / pre-schooler related wear and tear I think.

viques · 05/09/2018 17:39

But they are not destroyed though are they'd? Just a bit scuffed and scruffy but still wearable. Destroyed is the sole coming off, or seams coming apart.

Ifailed · 05/09/2018 17:41

I don't think OP will be back, but agree with the majority.
