And move to Wales??

So here it is. I'm a qualified NHS professional with lots of options career-wise. No children, no debts or mortgage.
But I really don't want to stick around with my OH, he has made it clear over the last 5 years that he isn't going anywhere in life and (I have posted previously about this) when I try to break up the relationship will turn on the charm and wear me down until I agree to stick it out.
There is a recruitment campaign for the NHS in wales at the moment and they will pay relocation costs (not a lot, but enough to tidy up my current rental property, pay a bond on a new one, maybe hire a van to move my stuff). There are jobs that I could do now, some are 6 or 12 months fixed term; so if I didn't like it I could come back easily.
My parents have a holiday cottage in Snowdonia that I could do the changeovers for if I moved up there.
It's not like I'm moving to new zealand or australia, I could technically come back for a weekend visit and lots of my friends regularly come to wales for breaks, so I wouldn't be totally isolated.

plus - Wales!

Am I mad??

No, you have simply spotted your escape route.

Mad would be not to take it.

Good luck Smile

BIWI · 02/09/2018 13:14

Go! And good luck Flowers

TwoOddSocks · 02/09/2018 13:14

YANBU. As long as you actually like the idea of living in Wales why not go for it. Either way you need to get away from your OH. The relationship is dead and you need to make that unequivocally clear for him. Can you not move out earlier? How do you know he won't follow you to Wales?

Kleptronic · 02/09/2018 13:14

You're not in the least bit mad. Go for it!

OrchidInTheSun · 02/09/2018 13:16

Go for it!

MumUndone · 02/09/2018 13:17

Brilliant idea, go for it.

ladyface69 · 02/09/2018 13:18

It would be a dream come true. I love wales, some of my happiest memories are there. I would love to learn more about the local way of life for my area (have just spent 2 hours finding properties that I could afford and researching local hospitals, commutes, local interests etc)
He won't follow me to wales - he has neither the means nor the impetus to take himself anywhere, which is why he's riding my coat tails through life.
I've found this GORGEOUS house

and this one is also very attractive

What are you waiting for.... go!

DartmoorDoughnut · 02/09/2018 13:18

Fantastic plan, go for it! I grew up there and love going ‘home’ to visit

Nonibaloni · 02/09/2018 13:18

Go, if you hate it you can move back but you’ll have made the break from your deadend relationship.
If I was qualified for anything I’d come with you

sexnotgender · 02/09/2018 13:18

Go!!!

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 02/09/2018 13:19

Go!! Now!!! Apply and run like the wind!

Nonibaloni · 02/09/2018 13:20

That first house!! I’d move for that. It’s like something out a bloody fairy tale

ladyface69 · 02/09/2018 13:21

Right, I'm writing my CV today :)
There's two jobs out at the moment I could do - I'll try and apply for those whilst I'm at it
Does anyone know what loss of earnings would be going from 37.5 to 22.5 hours per week? The best looking job that seems to be similar to what I'm doing now is only part time :/ I guess I could always work bank shifts...

Not mad at all!
Sounds completely perfect as the next step

MrsMozart · 02/09/2018 13:24

Go!

Enjoy your new life lass. Look forward to reading the updates Wine

Mayhemmumma · 02/09/2018 13:24

Omg that house!!

Go and have an amazing adventure

DogInATent · 02/09/2018 13:30

*Does anyone know what loss of earnings would be going from 37.5 to 22.5 hours per week?"

It's a 0.6 fraction, so multiply the FT salary by 0.6 for the pro rata. But your take-home won't be hit as hard as you'll be paying less tax.

Urbanbeetler · 02/09/2018 13:30

That whole house costs the same to rent as a grubby bedsit in Wembley.

thisonebreath · 02/09/2018 13:33

You'd be mad not to take the opportunity. What's that quote about the unloved life? Good luck in your new adventure, the excitement from you is papable through the screen.

thisonebreath · 02/09/2018 13:33

Unlived life that should say.

Leeds2 · 02/09/2018 13:34

Just go!

That first house is lovely!

carmelsundae · 02/09/2018 13:34

What banding are you and where on the scale? I'm top of band 6 and dropped from 37.5 to 22.5 hours and I'm about 800 poorer a month!
