And move to Wales??

So here it is. I'm a qualified NHS professional with lots of options career-wise. No children, no debts or mortgage.
But I really don't want to stick around with my OH, he has made it clear over the last 5 years that he isn't going anywhere in life and (I have posted previously about this) when I try to break up the relationship will turn on the charm and wear me down until I agree to stick it out.
There is a recruitment campaign for the NHS in wales at the moment and they will pay relocation costs (not a lot, but enough to tidy up my current rental property, pay a bond on a new one, maybe hire a van to move my stuff). There are jobs that I could do now, some are 6 or 12 months fixed term; so if I didn't like it I could come back easily.
My parents have a holiday cottage in Snowdonia that I could do the changeovers for if I moved up there.
It's not like I'm moving to new zealand or australia, I could technically come back for a weekend visit and lots of my friends regularly come to wales for breaks, so I wouldn't be totally isolated.

plus - Wales!

Am I mad??

I would go. Plus, that house is gorgeous. Good luck with the job hunt and move.

OrcinusOrca · 02/09/2018 13:36

Not sure what your role is exactly but I think most normal hospitals struggle to get enough staff on their bank. Some of the bigger teaching hospitals have a good amount on their books but most will still take more if people are up for it.

Sounds perfect Smile

ShrodingersSturdyPyjamas · 02/09/2018 13:36

Yes go go go!

Oldraver · 02/09/2018 13:37

I go for the house alone...and added bonus of ditching the deadweight

HoleyCoMoley · 02/09/2018 13:38

If you're in London now you'll also lose London weighting, you don't need to rush into renting somewhere, the hospital may have accommodation which will be much cheaper, a good way to meet new staff like yourself and fiv9e you time to look around. I'd be off like a shot.

Snoopychildminder · 02/09/2018 13:39

Bloody hell if you don’t go for that first house I will!!

scuttlemama · 02/09/2018 13:41

This is such an exciting time for you, I always like to think what decision I’d regret more in 5 years and I really can’t see you regretting giving it a go. Good luck!!

gamerchick · 02/09/2018 13:44

Fate has intervened OP, this is your chance to get rid of the dead weight and move on with your life the way you want. Good luck.

AlevelConfusion · 02/09/2018 13:44

Go. No regrets.

VelociraptorRex · 02/09/2018 13:44

Do it! If things aren't right where you are, make the change, and Wales is so lovely!

AlevelConfusion · 02/09/2018 13:47

That first house is lovely. How cute is that garden? Smile

rainbowruthie · 02/09/2018 13:47

Go for it! How exciting, a brand new start for you

afrikat · 02/09/2018 13:47

As long as you can afford it, please please do it. Life is way too short to waste it with someone you don't really want to be with and who is dragging you down. Imagine not going for it and in 5 or 10 years time being stuck in the exact same situation you are in now.

MikeUniformMike · 02/09/2018 13:48

Do it. The first house is gorgeous. It is a bit rural though.
Trefnant is a nice village. Not so keen on Pensarn.

Nonibaloni · 02/09/2018 13:50

Now is the right time as well. I don’t want to sound all ghost of Christmas future but we are contemplating relocating and it would have been so much easier pre family (including pre dh). There aren’t many times in life when you can pick up and relocate without massive long term risk.
I’m excited for you. Keep us up to date so we can be friends and come for a barbecue in that beautiful garden.

MorningsEleven · 02/09/2018 13:50

Goooooo! SIL and her husband left corporate careers to move to Wales and work in far lower-paid, completely unrelated jobs. They love it. They've settled in well, loads of friends, happy life. Although they took a hit financially the cost of living is lower so it's not affected them that much.

Juells · 02/09/2018 13:53

Although you say your DP won't move to Wales, I bet he'll want to tag along once you've moved.

TwllBach · 02/09/2018 13:54

Do it!! I'm in Snowdonia and bloody love it

redexpat · 02/09/2018 13:56

I tjink that this is divine intervention. Or your ducks lining themselves up for you...

Pigletthedog · 02/09/2018 13:56

Oh that house is gorgeous op can I come and live there too.

Go for it, you're in a great position to be able to follow a dream - lots of people would jump at the chance.

Good luck!

mogloveseggs · 02/09/2018 13:57

Go for it!

Heismyopendoor · 02/09/2018 13:58

Go for it!! Bank shifts would be a good idea, in my area it’s always busy with shifts

ladyface69 · 02/09/2018 14:00

DogInATent
thanks for that. It's quite a big drop actually, I'll have to ring the employer tomorrow and see if there's scope for bringing it up to full time.

Thanks for the messages of support guys, I will keep you updated :)

Anyone got any tips for moving to wales? The jobs I'm looking at are in Conwy County
