And move to Wales??

So here it is. I'm a qualified NHS professional with lots of options career-wise. No children, no debts or mortgage.
But I really don't want to stick around with my OH, he has made it clear over the last 5 years that he isn't going anywhere in life and (I have posted previously about this) when I try to break up the relationship will turn on the charm and wear me down until I agree to stick it out.
There is a recruitment campaign for the NHS in wales at the moment and they will pay relocation costs (not a lot, but enough to tidy up my current rental property, pay a bond on a new one, maybe hire a van to move my stuff). There are jobs that I could do now, some are 6 or 12 months fixed term; so if I didn't like it I could come back easily.
My parents have a holiday cottage in Snowdonia that I could do the changeovers for if I moved up there.
It's not like I'm moving to new zealand or australia, I could technically come back for a weekend visit and lots of my friends regularly come to wales for breaks, so I wouldn't be totally isolated.

plus - Wales!

Am I mad??

Good news OP stick to your guns! This is the hard bit. Once you've moved and settled I bet you'll never look back!

NorksAreMessy · 27/09/2018 22:29

So pleased for you.
We have rented three properties over the last decade, and we had three dogs at the start of each one (and five by the end of the last)

Good luck and well done that woman!

crimsonlake · 27/09/2018 23:18

You have posted about this before OP with the exact same property pics?

Reaa · 27/09/2018 23:19

How exciting for you, sounds like a whole new life is just waiting for you to start it.

Mum2OneTeen · 27/09/2018 23:32

This is one of the best threads I've ever read on Mumsnet.

Good luck and best wishes for your fabulous new life.

Unic0rnwrapp · 28/09/2018 08:56

An opportunity not to be missed ! Good luck with your new life !

Weenurse · 28/09/2018 09:07

I hope you get the job and the house, good luck

MrsStrowman · 28/09/2018 09:12

Great news OP! I have colleagues who live in Wales and their weekend pictures are enviable. Lovely outdoor lifestyle, much cheaper rent and property prices and for you the bonus of getting away from a man who has clung on like some kind of barnacle!

WheelOfMisfortune · 28/09/2018 09:19

Thrilled for you OP!

ladyface69 · 28/09/2018 10:55

@crimsonlake
it's the original thread, but as things have developed I thought I'd update anyone who might be interested. Reading threads like this on Mumsnet helped me to imagine myself without ExP and in a way helped me to consider my own 'escape'.
Sadly the keepers cottage (as I've named it haha) appears to have been let Sad
Rightmove properties appear to be thin on the ground at the moment!
@welshmist thanks, I will read up on those articles. I've been looking at the mental health review whilst doing my interview research - hopefully improvements will have been made

Rentals often don't make it onto Rightmove. Give your details to the local agents and they will contact you as soon as something comes up.
Very excited for you, I'm not far away from there and it's a great part of the world.
Good luck!

PoisonousSmurf · 28/09/2018 11:37

Glad to hear that you're hopefully moving soon. As others have said, look at local agents. The good stuff never gets on Rightmove.

NationalShiteDay · 28/09/2018 12:01

Don't be put off by Welshmists posts. I work closely with that Health Board and whilst, yes, there are issues (as there are everywhere), it is a great place to work and immensely satisfying to see positive changes made.

Well worth understanding the history though, so do read up.

saoirse31 · 28/09/2018 12:05

On a total tangent, those rental prices in wales are fantasticEnvyGrin

NationalShiteDay · 28/09/2018 12:07

Also there are LOADS of opportunities to learn Welsh. BCUHB have their own programme for staff but there are also classes in most villages/towns. I spent a year getting my Level 1 skills and can now pronounce place names well and make polite small talk. You'll be fine, especially in Conwy. The need for greater Welsh language skills increases the further west you head. Good luck OP!

welshmist · 28/09/2018 12:15

Word of warning about places like Trefnant, you do get snowed in, flooded etc. it is a lovely place though.

welshmist · 28/09/2018 12:16

For schools check Estyn reports, and google the schools for local press cover.

welshmist · 28/09/2018 12:17

Oops sorry looked back see you have no children...

butterfly56 · 28/09/2018 13:14

Fantastic update OP!
Wishing you all the Luck in getting your life back and a new job. Grin
