And move to Wales??

So here it is. I'm a qualified NHS professional with lots of options career-wise. No children, no debts or mortgage.
But I really don't want to stick around with my OH, he has made it clear over the last 5 years that he isn't going anywhere in life and (I have posted previously about this) when I try to break up the relationship will turn on the charm and wear me down until I agree to stick it out.
There is a recruitment campaign for the NHS in wales at the moment and they will pay relocation costs (not a lot, but enough to tidy up my current rental property, pay a bond on a new one, maybe hire a van to move my stuff). There are jobs that I could do now, some are 6 or 12 months fixed term; so if I didn't like it I could come back easily.
My parents have a holiday cottage in Snowdonia that I could do the changeovers for if I moved up there.
It's not like I'm moving to new zealand or australia, I could technically come back for a weekend visit and lots of my friends regularly come to wales for breaks, so I wouldn't be totally isolated.

plus - Wales!

Am I mad??

I would move purely for the bath in the first house.

I'm sure you'll definitely get plenty of opportunities to do bank, I do 24 hrs and get calls all the time! Besides, if you show willing I bet you'll get full time in no time as there are always other people wanting to reduce their hours and just waiting for someone to want to increase theirs.

RandomMess · 02/09/2018 14:46

Why wouldn't you go? Grin

HavelockVetinari · 02/09/2018 14:48

Wow, go for it! That's such a great opportunity, you'd be mad to pass it up! Also PLEASE keep this thread updated, we'd all love to hear about your escape and new life!

willyloman · 02/09/2018 14:50

Brilliant! Go and enjoy!

llangennith · 02/09/2018 14:53

The first language of a lot of people in Wales is Welsh but almost everyone speaks perfect English too.
Go for it!

civicxx · 02/09/2018 14:53

Sounds like an amazing opportunity, think you'd be crazy not to give it your best shot as like you've said it's only Wales not the other side of the world! Good luck!!

MaluCachu · 02/09/2018 14:54

I live in Snowdonia..wouldn’t want to live anywhere else Smile Grab life by the bollocks and do it! Wink

thecatneuterer · 02/09/2018 14:55

Slightly off topic but my god rents are cheap! I charge more than that for a small single room in a shared house.

Yes, go for it OP.

Bloobs · 02/09/2018 14:56

Do it! I used to fantasise about being able to do this, but with DC and a mortgage I couldn't. (I did eventually leave ex but it was messier...) You can have a new start and not have to have him in agreement. I wouldn't bet on him not following you though - it could act as a kick up the arse. I wouldn't tell him your new address for example.

LikeARedBalloon · 02/09/2018 14:58

Do it! That first house is amazing! My friend moved to Wales a couple of years ago...similar to you, she was in a rut and unhappy. She has the opportunity to transfer jobs and has never looked back. Good luck!

PrtScn · 02/09/2018 14:58

Go for it. Just make sure you have your own bank account and protect any savings etc first before you tell your OH. Otherwise he could empty the coffers out of spite.

standbyyourmammaryglands · 02/09/2018 14:58

What an opportunity !!!! Brilliant ! Go for it Star

SasBel · 02/09/2018 14:58

Another one saying go for it! Looks like a fab opportunity Smile

BlitheringIdiots · 02/09/2018 15:03

£580 wouldn't get you a studio flat here. Go for it!

Maelstrop · 02/09/2018 15:03

Do it, just make sure the soon to be ex doesn’t cling onto your coat tails as you go!

CurlsLDN · 02/09/2018 15:07

Oh op please please go for it. Life is for living!

What's that old fable/tale thing about a guy who is drowning and rejects multiple offers of help. When he gets to the pearly gates, he asks why the higher being didn't save him. HB points out he sent men with ropes, rowing boats and a helicopter.

Wales sounds like your helicopter!

TotHappy · 02/09/2018 15:08

! Shock can't believe how cheap the rents are in Wales! I always thought it'd be similar to here (Cornwall) because both areas similarly poor but no, we are getting shafted!

ladyface69 · 02/09/2018 15:09

I don't speak Welsh but am very willing to learn. On the JD's it says though it is desirable it is not essential. I'm not depressed but will be if I let my life carry on down this path much longer!! I'm looking at Betsi Cadwaladr hospital trust. My specialty is mental health (Band 6), I'm working in children's at the moment but have experience with all ages.
I just want to live in the woods with my dog but that's not possible haha!
Just finishing my CV off now!!!
This is going to be amazing, my grandchildren will thank me!

*future grandchildren that will inevitably occur once I've married a handsome welshman

Troels · 02/09/2018 15:10

Do it. I'm in Wales and was NHS until recently, I'd do part time and join the bank for extra shifts as you need them.
Betsi hired a lot of Spanish nurses over the last few years so Welsh isn't essential unless you are going for some specialist high up position where they stick to the "Welsh is prefered for this position"
You could always do agency and work in nursing homes occasionally to add to your money if you do part time work for the NHS.

Freyanna · 02/09/2018 15:11

Good luck Ladyface!
