NCed for this. I work in a school. we have twins coming.

TWIN1 is called: Roseanne
TWIN2 is called: Rosy

No lies.

why would you do that? Confused

I thought it was odd the names of the twins that were sold to a British couple, the ones in the news recently. They were called ' Kiara' and 'Keyara' ……. They're the same name, just different spelling!

I haven't read the full thread if this has already been pointed out …...

aspoonfulofyourownmedicine · 02/09/2018 17:27

Reading a few more posts, I suppose the same could be said about my family.

I'm the eldest, named after my dad (obvs the female derivative) as DP's had already picked out my name as a boy (Think Daniel Lewis, but got Danielle Louise). My youngest Dbro is named after my dad - so there's Dan, Danielle, Daniel (not our real names but similar). My DS also has both my DBros names in his name...…….

I'm not quite sure what 'poor' areas and 'poor families' have to do with it though @LittleCandle . I was brought up in quite and affluent area, that's still quite sought after for people wanting to live there. My dad had his own business until he retired early due to a serious back injury. We weren't 'rich' growing up but were alright.

LittleCandle · 02/09/2018 18:15

@ButtonMirror - the poverty was relevant because the family were, at best, poorly educated, or not educated at all and none of them realised that the children all had the same name.

I also know someone who was going to call a child Liam William and was most put out when it was pointed out to her that it was the same name. 'But nobody else will know that,' she said indignantly, then asked around to prove her point... Cue much laughter from everyone she asked.

PinkAvocado · 02/09/2018 19:47

I know a Teddy and a Theodore.

ferrier · 02/09/2018 20:12

Quads locally all start with the same letter and all wear the same clothes - like identical, not even different colours of the same thing.

Also siblings, Roxanne and Roxette.

And close friends, four girls. When they were naming them they were insistent that they all had to end in a. eg. Olivia, Amelia, Matilda, Luisa. It's not as if the names themselves are samey samey. It's just the deliberateness of it!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/09/2018 21:26

*3 generations - grandfather, son and grandson alll with the same first, second and surnames.8

This was very common round here - so you'd get (say) Jim, Young Jim, Little Jim etc Tended to happen with the male names rather than the female ones for some reason.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/09/2018 21:30

And of course, there's William and Benjamin (immediate reaction "oh, that's nice" NO IT'S NOT IT'S BILL AND BLOODY BEN YOU IDIOT)

(Admittedly this was on a tv programme, but somewhere, there they will be . . . )

feralcat19 · 02/09/2018 21:37

I heard of someone who called her boy twins Christian and Christopher, so they were both shortened to Chris....

Marriott5star · 02/09/2018 22:01

AWFUL ....
To the OP that has started this thread please have some consideration for the parents who read it ...Any parent of multiples is free to name their children as they seem fit .
It's terrible to see your childrens names slated on such a thread .
... I'm amazed you do not value your employment or care for the parents enough to breach identification laws used solely for your entertainment .
... AWFUL .

.

EwItsAHooman · 02/09/2018 23:13

How do you know names haven't been altered to protect identities, e.g., OP has posted Roseanne and Rosey but actual names are Annemarie and Anne?

C0untDucku1a · 02/09/2018 23:33

Not-paul Grin

multivac · 03/09/2018 21:39

Has no one mentioned the famous MN triplets yet?

Faith, Hope and Kevin

And their sibling, Apocryphal.

FizzyWizzyFlash · 03/09/2018 21:51

Three of my aunts have 5/6 children each.

Each family have names which rhyme.

So without giving the real names away it's equivalent to molly, Holly, polly, dolly, lolly and jolly.

It's really bizarre.

Where there is a family with mixture of boys and girls, the names still rhyme!

echt · 03/09/2018 21:59

I taught identical twin boys with identical names, in the same class; think Ahmed Saleh. Helpfully one of them chose to be called Kevin for schooling purposes. Names changed, of course.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 03/09/2018 22:02

Names are for the sole purpose of telling us apart. Surely the registrar should have a word with a pair of halfwits that give their identical twins one name between them?

Jux · 03/09/2018 22:30

We did have triplets in our class at school who were called Sean, Owen and Ian.

HugANetmum · 04/09/2018 06:47

Crikey Marriot calm down :/ I'm clearly not the only person who thinks it is odd to give siblings the same name.

OP posts:
Esker · 04/09/2018 15:49

Marriott, it's just a discussion about names. All the time on MN there are chats about names, and people expressing their opinions - positive and negative - about names. It's not designed to hurt anyone, but sometimes opinions differ. I've seen people criticise my sons name, and I don't care one bit. I chose it, I like it, they are entitled to have an opinion.

On another note. I know a family where the father is called John, they have a son called Jonny and a daughter called Joanna. I only realised recently that they effectively all have the same name!

GreenTulips · 04/09/2018 16:37

It's terrible to see your childrens names slated on such a thread

Well they eventually become grown ups and can move away from 'identical'

poopsqueak · 05/09/2018 15:35

There’s brothers called Mitch, Michael and Mitchell at DD’s school. Why??????

Raisinbrain · 08/09/2018 11:32

While a lot of these examples are ridiculous (e.g. Daniel & Danielle), it's hardly surprising that siblings often have similar names (e.g. James and Jacob). After all they were named by the same parents with the same preferences. It doesn't always mean that the parents have made a conscious effort to choose matchy matchy names.

Mymycherrypie · 09/09/2018 07:18

My friend always says about the names back in her dads village. Some kids were just named after the order they were born in. So after the third child, they will were just called four, five, six and seven 😂

GreenTulips · 09/09/2018 08:49

It doesn't always mean that the parents have made a conscious effort to choose matchy matchy names

You see this on the names board all the time 'what's X sibling called?' 'What girls names goes with Y?'

They want them to be matched and all 'pairy'

Dartsplayer · 11/09/2018 11:30

I knew a boy called Paul whose brother was called David. Their dad was called David and their mum Pauline Smile

2010Aussie · 11/09/2018 15:27

We knew a family of four children - Shane, Wayne, Dwayne and Sharon
