Not the same. but my Grandma was widowed young and got married again in her early 60,s jer and my (step) Grandad had sons. Wirh the same name they always had to refer to them by their full name to make a distinction so would say we went to Dave smiths last night for tea or Dave Jones dropped in to see us last weekend Grin

EsmeeMerlin · 01/09/2018 19:51

My dh knew someone at work who called their twins Peace and Harmony.

Obi73 · 01/09/2018 19:51

Worked with a family where Mum renamed the twins Ronnie and Reggie because she (in her words) wanted them to rule the estate like the Kray twins!

babyno5 · 01/09/2018 20:10

Went to school with a Richard Dick who had a brother walked William 😂😂

Trying to change the name slightly so it's not as identifying (and they're lovely lovely kids) but one of my kids is in a class with the most identical set of identical twins I have ever known (normally there's some trick you can learn to tell them apart but this pair have me stumped) where the only name difference is the final letter of their name.

We have back in the family tree twins called Mary-Jane and Jane-Mary - Mary-Jane died, so they renamed the surviving twin after the deceased one. Different generation and different set of social norms but still blooming macabre.

Also used to work with a guy who had one German parent and one English parent and they'd had the agreement they could name a child each - so we had the pairing of Jurgen and Dave.

Another one local - parents divorced and met new partners and moved in together - leading to step siblings living in the same house, in the same class at school, with identical first names. The kids were very tongue in cheek and bemused by it all really.

pinkstripeycat · 01/09/2018 20:28

Online news story - twin girls called Kiara and Keyara

Atthebottomofthegarden · 01/09/2018 20:47

Boy and girl twins - Dean and Deana. Yes really.

Squidgee · 01/09/2018 21:36

I knew a Basil & Fern and also a Jemima & Tallulah (known as mimmy and lully)

Mom knew a lady called Rose Rose, who married and became Rose Bush.

two of my friends were cousins. Both Betty with their own surname - their mum's were sisters.
They were the same age and in the same class at school!

Soubriquet · 01/09/2018 21:47

I’ve had siblings at a nursery called Neil (older brother) and Deneil.. Confused

Nervousfirsttimer · 01/09/2018 21:48

I went to school with Brett and Brad twins. My twins have very non-matchy and possibly quite boring at the side of some of these names!
On a separate note, working in a school you definitely will have a social media policy which means you shouldn’t be posting anything like this. Even in a larger sized school wouldn’t take much to narrow this down to a few members of staff and in my school would be sackable offence.

Babybearsporij · 01/09/2018 21:51

I met twins once called Daniel and Danielle!

Beamur · 01/09/2018 21:53

I know a couple of blended families who've ended up with kids with the same names. Which is a pita!
Have a colleague whose kids are called Charles/Charlotte.

Somanymistakes · 01/09/2018 21:56

I knew a David Davidson.
Why?

PurpleAndTurquoise · 01/09/2018 21:57

I am a mother of twins. I really dislike matchy matchy twin names. I also can't abide it when identical twins are dressed the same. They are 2 separate people and need to forge their own identifies otherwise there is a high incidence of mental health problems when older. See research from TAMBA to support this.

DerekTheBrave · 01/09/2018 22:02

Sometimes I read some of these posts and think they really can’t be true.

Then I remember Cheryl Cole called her kid Bear Payne and I remember absolute numpties do exist.

Applepudding2018 · 01/09/2018 22:19

@butterry there were a Dolly and Teddy in my grandfather's family - a generation born in the 1890's so I picture these as very elderly people from my childhood.

manicmij · 01/09/2018 22:25

That is mad. No regard for the embarrassment the children will experience when growing up at school. I have identical twin boys and yes, they are totally different beings. I hate seeing twins dressed the same it's so lazy to not bother to at least have different colour of outfits. Same goes for siblings when all children in a family have names with same initial how do they identify any mail for one another..

Silentnighttwo · 01/09/2018 22:32

I worked with a George George. It was always entertaining listening to him introduce himself.

Lolimax · 01/09/2018 22:33

I had a great aunt called Thomasina. Her twin brother who died at a few days old was Thomas.

AspieHere · 01/09/2018 22:46

AlpacaPicnic "Ooh, and not twins but sisters local to me called Joop and D'kny"

isnt Joop called Joop Armani as well? Grin

m0therofdragons · 01/09/2018 22:47

Anyone who has twins will tell you that they are independent beings and whether or not you name them the same or dress them the same they will still be independent over confident beings. Over-confidence seems to often come hand in hand with twins.

I bring mine up individually but they will choose to wear the same dress or have their hair the same or call themselves "the twins" because they think it's hilarious nobody knows which is which. They're 7 and I have no concerns over individuality. So what if someone calls their kids James and Jacob, why would you smugly judge because of some historical understanding that they are the same name. Heidi and Alice are the same but seriously it's not exactly confusing because, well, as with James and Jacob, the bloody letters are different.

Cindie943811A · 01/09/2018 22:50

Distant cousins born in the 19th century—triplets called Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

Other ancestors Irving together in the early 20th century — 3 generations - grandfather, son and grandson alll with the same first, second and surnames.

m0therofdragons · 01/09/2018 22:51

@manicmij I hate seeing twins dressed the same it's so lazy to not bother to at least have different colour of outfits

I have to question whether you really have twins? There is nothing remotely lazy about raising twins whatever they're wearing. Not sure it's possible to raise 2 babies and be lazy. Are kids clothes appropriately for weather? Yes? Great, parenting win.

PurplePenguins · 01/09/2018 23:16

Tim - Timothy Ian Murray
