We have booked and paid to go to London for a concert tomorrow night.
Leaving at 6.30 pm tonight
She rang a hour ago saying she was ill with sickness bug and can't go.
It's too late to find anyone else to go.
So I'm loosing out on £90 train
£150 hotel and £79 concert ticket :-(
Do I go alone?
I know I won't enjoy it alone tho
Tomorrow was meant to be shopping then concert ..coming home on Saturday
Gutted

liz70 · 31/08/2018 17:20

What happened to our minute by minute updates, complete with pics? Hmm

Pinkpeanut27 · 31/08/2018 17:28

I’d go alone and leave her to pay for her part . I’d love a day out on my own ‘

Goggle4 · 31/08/2018 17:36

Definitely go alone! I’ve been to London twice on my own and been to a few concerts on my own. I wouldn’t lose out on money though and she should pay, even though she can’t help being ill! I would pay anyway! Have fun :) x

SleepWarrior · 31/08/2018 17:39

Hope you're out having fun op!

Danceintherain2018 · 31/08/2018 17:39

jade9390 · 31/08/2018 17:40

Hope u went alone or she gave you her ticket for someone else to go with you. I am always doing these things alone and having fun, else I would miss concerts nobody else would want to see. Illness cannot be helped, I bet she was gutted to lose the money.

lilypoppet · 31/08/2018 17:42

I'd go alone.

KnotsInMay · 31/08/2018 17:57

It is10 0% a normal thing to do in London, go to a show or cinema on your own. It's normal to do pretty much anything in London, no-one raises an eyebrow at anything legal and decent. And even if it isn't, half the time!

Also, Londoners are friendly to visitors, despite the rumours, and if you ask for directions, especially on the tube, will help.

Littleelffriend · 31/08/2018 18:03

Well done op you have confronted your fears be very proud of yourself you’ll have an amazing time x

mariniere · 31/08/2018 18:07

mariniere · 31/08/2018 18:08

Whoops Blush cancel the cheque while you’re at it!
Hope you had fun OP.

Charolais · 31/08/2018 18:14

I used to take the train to London to go shopping and sight seeing about once a month on my own. I started going with a friend but we were both so polite neither of us would say where they really wanted to go, so we didn’t get a lot done. On my own was great. I'd go to my favorite shops, eat where I wanted to eat and have a good look round.

I was a teenager btw.

nannygoat50 · 31/08/2018 18:19

Go alone and have room to yourself and enjoy . Don’t lose out because of her

AnnieAnoniMoose · 31/08/2018 18:53

Excellent! Well done.

Hopefully we will get some updates when you have time.

Have a blast! 🍹

Jamontoast123 · 31/08/2018 19:01

Have just got on to this chat !
So happy for you xxx
I live in London and it’s great !
It will be buzzing on Saturday night !
And after the show it will still be buzzing all the way back to your hotel Smile.
Bayswater (district line and circle line) and Queensway (central line) are on the same street !

You will have a wonderful time
Hop on the big bus company and get a feel for the place . We did it and I live here and it’s good fun .
Do let us know how it all went x

Gilly12345 · 31/08/2018 19:24

Hopefully by now you you took everyone's advice and gone on your own, which really was the right thing to do, I hope you have a lovely time and enjoy yourself.

Parisbun · 31/08/2018 19:39

So pleased you decided to go alone OP.
I have generalised anxiety and struggle with doing new things but I realised that I often was more anxious about things in the shorter term where the longer term was less of a problem.
So a taxi to our own town would be stressful but a taxi then train then plane for a holiday would be fine. I started projecting myself forward a bit more so that I would see the whole event rather than the individual stages. Helped me anyway .
Hope you have a great time -and the first of many !

PineappleExpress · 31/08/2018 20:04

I’m proud of you OP!!

I have general anxiety and pretty bad social anxiety, so I was rooting for you to go while reading through this, and also panicking at the thought of you panicking in London! Grin
I really wanted to go to see Pride and Prejudice in a town not far from where I was living a few years ago, I couldn’t find anybody to go at short notice, but I wanted to see it so much I just went by myself. It was absolutely terrifying but also exciting. I really felt like I’d accomplished something by the time I’d sat in my seat and the play was fantastic.
I hope you’re having a fab time and your friend feels better

midsomermurderess · 31/08/2018 20:09

I do hope she went. It is such a freeing thing to realise that you can do and enjoy things yourself, on your own. If you are worried about what other people think, remember, you're a 30 second, if that, wonder.

Ladylisa · 31/08/2018 20:16

Definitely go alone, I’d love it x

ThomasShelbysBunnet · 31/08/2018 20:19

I hope you've had a bloody brilliant time OP
