We have booked and paid to go to London for a concert tomorrow night.
Leaving at 6.30 pm tonight
She rang a hour ago saying she was ill with sickness bug and can't go.
It's too late to find anyone else to go.
So I'm loosing out on £90 train
£150 hotel and £79 concert ticket :-(
Do I go alone?
I know I won't enjoy it alone tho
Tomorrow was meant to be shopping then concert ..coming home on Saturday
Gutted

Have a brilliant time pippy.
I went to see Kate Bush in concert 2014 on my own as the tickets were a nightmare to get, and expensive. I flew from South Africa on my own, and had a fantastic time, saw Kate, then spent the next couple of days wandering around the charity shops, art galleries, and saw the poppies at the Tower Of London. It was great to just do my own thing, at my own pace. You will be fine.

MrsFezziwig · 30/08/2018 21:39

@Dumbledoresgirl apologies, I read your post as meaning that it was miserable doing things on your own (so not likely to instil confidence in the OP). Clearly I was mistaken.

pippy02 good on you! Just post on here if you get stuck with anything.

Nydj · 30/08/2018 21:40

I was going to offer to buy your friends ticket and go with you as I have seen wicked and it was so good that I would happily go again but then remembered that I have other plans tomorrow 😟. I hope you have a great time!

Your hotel is in a part of London that’s quite lively so shouldn’t feel too bad getting back to it at night. Maybe start another thread if you have any questions about what to do and where to go during the day tomorrow.

Ignoramusgiganticus · 30/08/2018 21:42

You will feel so empowered when you do this. And yes you won't see anyone ever again so it doesn't matter what they think, even if they think anything, and they won't as it's london and there are lots of people doing things on their own.

LittleKitty1985 · 30/08/2018 21:50

@LarryFreakinStylinson why don't you take a second to read posts properly before getting snarky. I said integrity in friendships is important to me, I do not cancel plans with friends because of "sickness" or for any other flaky reason. I mentioned the work example to so show that in my experience "sickness" has only ever been an excuse, as I generally don't get sick, so it's hard for me to relate to the idea of people genuinely being so sick that they can't take some cold and flu capsules and get on with it... unless they've been to the doctor and got a real diagnosis of something of course.

But let me say again, that's just my personal experience. I know that not everyone is as strong and healthy as me. Sorry if I've caused any offence, no need to have a go at me!

Dumbledoresgirl · 30/08/2018 21:50

@MrsFezziwig that's ok. I just read my original post and realise it wasn't clear.

Glad to see you have taken the plunge OP. I hope you have a great time.

BabySharkDooDooDooDoo · 30/08/2018 21:58

Hopefully your friend makes it too

bananafish · 30/08/2018 21:58

Well done, you will have a grand time. I live about a 10 min walk away from your hotel, so if you have any queries or want some recommendations, or directions, drop me a PM and I'm sure I can help. Have a lovely trip Smile

AlexanderHamilton · 30/08/2018 22:00

I think you are the one who needs to read the posts properly Kitty.

The OP clearly stated that her friend had a sickness bug. Now said friend absolutely should NOT go to the Dr to get a proper diagnoses as no Dr wants someone with a sickness bug in their waiting room.

No train or theatre wants them either. With a sickness bug you should stay away from public places for at least 24 if not 48 hours.

I’m sure the friend is sorry she’s not prepared to travel on the train & go to the theatre with a bucket to vomit in but the rest of the public will be thankful.

BakedBeans47 · 30/08/2018 22:01

Yay! So glad you’ve gone OP. Have a great time

PlateOfBiscuits · 30/08/2018 22:03

Yay! Well done OP!

WaitrosePigeon · 30/08/2018 22:07

So pleased you went!

Sharkwithknees · 30/08/2018 22:09

kitty
I know that not everyone is as strong and healthy as me

But do you own many leather bound books?

Sharkwithknees · 30/08/2018 22:11

But well done OP! It's a big thing to overcome, and you did it! I'm sure you'll have a great time and you can be immensely proud of yourself Grin

LittleKitty1985 · 30/08/2018 22:11

@AlexanderHamilton actually the OP said that the friend "says" that she has a "sickness bug", which gives us 3 possibilities; 1) she has a genuine sickness bug, 2) she's mistaken about what is making her feel ill and assumes it's worse than it is, 3) or she's lying. Most people assumed the first explanation, whereas I considered the second two. None of us know what the truth is. I do now feel that the no.3 is less likely, however no.2 could still be true as OPs friend has said she's going to try to come to London tomorrow instead.

AlexanderHamilton · 30/08/2018 22:15

If she is mistaken & it’s food poisoning instead does it really matter.

Vomiting is vomiting.

Flibbertyjibbit · 30/08/2018 22:16

Yay! Go Pippy!

LittleKitty1985 · 30/08/2018 22:18

@AlexanderHamilton Those are not the only causes of vomiting. Maybe she's terribly hungover. Maybe she's pregnant. Maybe it's a mild cold. I've vomited in the morning and then been totally fine by lunch... many times in fact!

RosiePosies · 30/08/2018 22:23

Well done OP!! Have a lovely time. I LOVE staying in hotels on my own, especially when you can see the TV from the bath.

jmh740 · 30/08/2018 22:25

Hope you have a great time op, I went to London recently with my 2 youngest children(both primary age) we went to see a show and then walked into the centre of London after it finished we had a drink in McDonalds at midnight in Leicester square and walked to the tube station then back to our hotel after a 20 minute tube journey, I was worried before going if I would feel safe with the children on my own in the dark in London but I didn't feel unsafe at anytime. Me and dd saw wicked last year it was amazing I hope you have a fantastic weekend.

Keel · 30/08/2018 22:38

Have a fab time OP.

Ginkypig · 30/08/2018 23:00

This thread made me remember that I had tickets for the theatre (I was meant to find a friend to go with but I forgot I had them) so I went to check them and it was for tonight!

I went myself and it was brilliant! Have a great time op!

kierenthecommunity · 30/08/2018 23:09

There's something interesting about two of the houses in Leinster Gardens. You might like to see if you can spot what it is

Just googled that. And want to go and see it myself Grin

Titsywoo · 30/08/2018 23:14

London is brilliant on your own. Get out and about and enjoy yourself!

Happygummibear · 30/08/2018 23:19

For anyone who is worried about doing something alone and getting lost....

I went to America on my own and did a little tour... I was terrified..what if I got lost... as I got on the transport my dm said "you won't be lost, you just won't be in the place you intended"with that I had a blast and explored all sorts.

With phones today just bring up maps it will help you find your way and in big cities use Uber..they are all safe registered drivers and will pick you up where ever you have managed to get to.

Also for finding places to eat use an app called swarm.
