Don't get me wrong she seems like a lovely lady and does have some useful tips but AIBU to think she cleans alot and often. As a single mum I don't hardly have anytime during the day to do this amount of cleaning! Now it's making me feel bad that I don't clean this much 😂

By 'hinched' do you mean cleaned?

You know, what people have been doing in their homes since the dawn of time? Grin

I like this replacing regular verbs with peoples' names thing.

I think I'm going to go Nigella Lawson me some lunch. And after that I might Lewis Hamilton to work.

LuckyAmy1986 · 20/09/2018 09:20

OkMaybeNot I thought exactly the same!! You haven’t hinched your downstairs... you just ...cleaned it?! It’s not a new invention.

CaptainCorrigan · 20/09/2018 09:42

😂

I did notice The organised mum mentioned in her stories yesterday that she's noticed a exponential rise in women contacting her saying they were experiencing a rise in their cleaning OCD etc.

I like TOMM as a page (and I love some of her slow cooker recipes which have become part of the weekly rotation in this house - because "bung it in and abandon it" is my kinda style of cooking) but I have to step back from her FB group periodically as I find it can get very toxic on there with overcompetitive cleaning. Someone was agonising over how to scrub the inside of her toilet cistern out the other day for example. I can quite easily see how people get spurred on by hearing about someone taking off the kitchen draw handles weekly to get the little bits of muck around the base off and suddenly start worrying that they need to do all of that as well - and if you're the kind of person prone to getting overly-sucked into something - suddenly a setup that promotes 30 minutes a day (taking the general TOMM timescale there of a little bit you'd be doing daily anyway and 30 minutes rotating through rooms over the week as a figure) has become something that you're feeling worried every time there's a splash mark on the cooker top or whatever.

I felt myself getting anxious about the state of the house the other week - because of the associated groups with things and I forced myself to take a step back for the weekend, let the splashes and spills go and not be following the kids around with a cleaning cloth because it wasn't having a good effect on me trying to keep up with the more "hardcore" elements shall we say.

I do think we'll start to see more people suffering with problematic attitudes towards cleaning from this "internet cleaning sensation" boom in general - probably not the actual figureheads themselves but the groups of their followers.

I actually just snorted.

JaneJeffer · 20/09/2018 10:33

I've totally hinched my downstairs sounds painful, take it easy

GrimSqueaker · 20/09/2018 10:40

Sounds like something that happens in childbirth.

Skyejuly · 20/09/2018 10:44

I agree. This is actually awful for mental health and feeling not good enough. Its all going to go off with a bang soon. Not sure what.

rainbowsandsmiles · 20/09/2018 10:52

If you've got no motivation, you don't usually like cleaning, you only ever feel like doing the bare minimum, she's fantastic for mental health. She makes you feel like you want to make your home great too, motivates you and lifts you up. Can be good for anxiety as it gives you something to channel it into and keeps your mind busy. A type of mindfulness, if you like. Smile

I do worry, as someone who has suffered with severe post natal anxiety I was triggered easily into obsessive cleaning, by a midwife who said something as simple as 'ensure people wash their hands when they hold the baby'. It can be a bad route for someone to go down, although I thought it was helping me washing my hands every 5 minutes or disinfecting my whole house twice a day it really wasn't.

rainbowsandsmiles · 20/09/2018 10:55

You could say that about all social media. If you feel you're not good enough or trying to keep up with others then any accounts could make you feel crappy about yourself. Instagram, FB, whatever.

Littlechocola · 20/09/2018 11:00

That will be the chemicals reacting to each other.

Everyone’s mental health is different. Anything can become obsessive. For me I am a lazy arse who needs some structure or I become anxious. 30 minutes a day is helping me.

I agree with this. I was really lazy and unmotivated around the house. But since discovering Mrs Hinch, I've transformed this place! I feel a lot happier than I did. There is s strong connection between how your house feels, and how you feel.

😆

Skyejuly · 20/09/2018 11:19

It probably will be Wink

Zombae · 20/09/2018 11:34

When she was on This Morning, the fabric conditioner spray didn't clean off the marks on the door... I tried that fabric conditioner spray thing and my hands reacted so badly to it that they came out in blisters. Never again.

Then when she threw in her catch phrases on her This Morning segment it was so forced and not in context, it made me cringe. Holly said, "so how do you clean this stain on the hob?"
Hinch replied, " ALL THE BEST, you use this blah blah product placement blah..." Confused

What's annoying is the way she's made to look like she has invented all of her hacks. We've had this thing called The Google for ages. There are a million articles for bicarb hacks.

rainbowsandsmiles · 20/09/2018 11:45

I don't care who invented what first, I care that she's actually motivating me to want to clean here.
Don't think she or anyone else is claiming that "she did it first" or invented iteither? Confused
People are well aware there's a thing called google, it's a damn fine invention.
Randomly googling yawnsome bicarb hacks sounds as likely as getting me wanting to clean as me flying to the moon and the back.
Reactions to cleaning products are a common thing, that's why I wear gloves as I have very sensitive skin. You can pick them up cheap enough.

rainbowsandsmiles · 20/09/2018 12:05

Pick some gloves up cheap enough from Poundland, or Wilkos have them for approx 50p. I find wearing gloves stops any products going on my hands and making me react/get blisters.

Frosty66611 · 20/09/2018 12:07

She’s the only person who has ever motivated me to want to clean. All I ever did was a quick surface clean of my rooms before and had become really lazy with it

rainbowsandsmiles · 20/09/2018 12:08

Same, I usually hate it.

Frosty66611 · 20/09/2018 12:11

@rainbows me too. I would do everything possible to avoid it and would sometimes not clean my bathroom for weeks other than a 2 second wipe with a cleaning wipe now and again. I find her personality infectious and she makes such a boring task seem fun

SlowlyShrinking · 20/09/2018 12:14

I definitely need cleaning inspiration 😬
I’ve just had a look on Instagram...can’t believe how grey her house is

rainbowsandsmiles · 20/09/2018 12:16

Frosty - yes, I think it's a lot to do with her personality, she's fun, gets enjoyment out of the usually mundane, young and glamorous with a gorgeous home too. Think that's what's appealing and motivating. Makes you want to do it too.

Same, quick wipe down every now and again, certainly not any "proper" cleaning.
Still got a way to go, but feel like I'm actually getting somewhere and it's definitely starting to look a lot cleaner and by default less cluttered too.
Which has a knock on effect on me as it's making me feel brighter and more on top of things. Smile

rainbowsandsmiles · 20/09/2018 12:17

Slowwly shrinking - try watching her Instagram stories (videos) to get more out of it, that's where most of my inspiration comes from lol.

tamzinro · 20/09/2018 12:18

I think she gets a cleaner in
