Don't get me wrong she seems like a lovely lady and does have some useful tips but AIBU to think she cleans alot and often. As a single mum I don't hardly have anytime during the day to do this amount of cleaning! Now it's making me feel bad that I don't clean this much 😂

squiz if you want to see crazy - go hang around any crochet-along group before the big project gets running and it's guaranteed to get heated if someone criticises someone's colour choice, someone uses non-prescribed yarn, someone uses a cake yarn... someone chops the cake yarn up into all its individual colours and balls it up like singles (always struck me as a waste of money with the prices of them) and it just goes on and on and on. I do not know what it is about the crochet community but when they lose it they lose it spectacularly!

And yep - money is usually the death knell of blogs. The number of craft blogs I've loosely followed that I've just totally lost interest in the second they announce they're now a "stylecraft blogger" or a "scheepjies blogger" and the content just goes to utter utter shift as much yarn as we can shite is amazing. About the only couple that I've found that haven't are Zooty Owl (although she's hit a bit of a content dead patch recently) and LookWhatIMade (Dedri Urys - and I won't have managed to spell that right off the top of my head). Even Attic now seems to really have lost the spark in her blogging and you get a very real sense coming through that it's now a job she dreads getting up to on a Monday morning (and I used to really like her use of colour and easy tutorials - so I'm not anti-Lucy).

I've not seen it as much in knitting but I'm more of a hooker who occasionally dabbles in the dark art of two sticks.

It's nowt compared to the falling out between the women who run our local yarn shop though - that one got nasty with secret FB groups, FB group espionage, counter groups, whatsapps going on and a war of Google reviews at one point!

GrimSqueaker · 19/09/2018 11:53

who the Fuck has time to put a sink go sleep!

After stupidly buying a black sink that shows up every fucking watermark possible I get the urge to put mine into a coma some days!

Littlechocola · 19/09/2018 11:56

Damn it, after reading this thread I’ve lost a few hours watching her videos. I can see the draw but I’m definitely more team tomm. I think it works better for our family.

SlimmingMumOf1 · 19/09/2018 15:05

I love keeping my flat tidy. But as a working mum of 1, I dust every few days, hoover almost every day (little one makes a mess with his food), give the kitchen a good clean once a day after dinner and just put some Zoflora down the plug hole and bleach the toilet once a day to keep it fresh and change bedding once a week.

I don't really do anymore than that as when I have a day off, I want to spend time with my DS. I don't have time to clean every nook and cranny. I'd rather spend time with my family than focus on cleaning and turning my flat upside down to clean it thoroughly! It gets a proper deep clean once a year.. spring time clean!

squiz81 · 19/09/2018 16:58

@GrimSqueaker ooh I never knew the yarn community could be so mean! I think fair enough if Lucy does earn from her blog, a lot of time has gone into all those free patterns. There must come a point where you get sick of documenting everything though.

@SlimmingMumOf1 I'm not trying to be goady but can I ask why you put zoflora down the plug hole? Genuine question. If you are worried about blockages/smells stick some soda crystals down. It's better for the environment and will do more good to your pipes.

I wonder if zoflora just has a very clever marketing department that has worked social media very well. I noticed the shelves had been cleared of it in poundstretcher yesterday and the same today in b&m. Not that I wanted some, I wanted to get some of the Pink Stuff to try and neither shop had it....and I know it's because some people are stockpiling and have 20 tubs. Grrr

Deux · 19/09/2018 19:18

I'm living in a zeitgeist I just don’t understand. I just don’t get it. Do people really not know how to clean, like spray a product and use a cloth? Do people really need to be told that they need to clean their bins (but use half a bottle of cleaning spray in the process). I just don’t get it.

No TV programme or cleaning products company would ever advocate mixing chemicals. There are warnings on many products. It's only a matter of time until someone sprays just the right mixture, lights a candle and boom. Or someone ends up unconscious or dead by accidentally creating chlorine gas in their loo. And my goodness, what about the planet. I’d be interested to know if Mrs H could be held legally liable for a civil complaint.

I find it very unethical and I do think think if she’s become positioned as a cleaning expert then she does have a responsibility to her consumers, just like any other brand.

At least TOMM has a warning about never mixing chemicals and is so much more measured and sensible.

It's all crazy, imo.

Skyejuly · 19/09/2018 19:39

Totally 100% Deux. Complete and utter madness.

kissprudencekeith · 19/09/2018 19:43

Noticed Breast Cancer UK's post on Twitter earlier advising people to use fewer synthetic cleaning products (can't post pic as I'm a newbie), made me think of the Hinch mob claiming the overuse of cleaning chemicals never hurt anyone.

rainbowsandsmiles · 19/09/2018 19:43

Of course people know how to spray a product or use a cloth. Hmm
Not everyone likes cleaning though, if she's motivating people and making them feel better about themselves, that's a good thing.
You don't have to "get" it. Plenty of people obviously do though.

LookMoreCloselier · 19/09/2018 19:56

I went for a look on her instagram when I saw some of the fuss over 'hinching' but I wasn't impressed, no kids, no job? It's pretty easy to keep things that clean when you live in what looks like a newbuild and you don't have kids following you around undoing all your work with an ever expanding pile of plastic crap, plus all the time in the world. Wow Hmm

Deux · 19/09/2018 20:18

@rainbow, yes plenty of people get it but plenty of people clearly don't understand the consequences of mixing chemicals and that is dangerous, very dangerous. And I do get that living in a clean and tidy home can beneficial for mental health. But creating chlorine gas is going to do no one's mental health any good. It’s easily achieved by mixing hot water, zoflora/Dettol and bleach.

When someone gets injured the brands won’t be held liable as the products are clearly labelled. But, imo Mrs H is a law suit waiting to happen unless she does some responsible disclaiming.

It does seem to be a message that more products = better results and that’s not factually correct. Hot water and fairy liquid will deal with most cleaning situations.

I'd love to read a sociological analysis of what’s going on.

Littlechocola · 19/09/2018 20:22

I think she does have a job. She mentions going to work.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 19/09/2018 20:33

She's a freelance hairdresser. She has a hairdressing page on IG - her photos are really impressive!

LookMoreCloselier · 19/09/2018 20:39

Oh, I just googled her there and it said housewife and former hairdresser, however that was the Sun. Hmm

WhatsGoingOnEh · 19/09/2018 21:20

Maybe she's given up hairdressing in favour of being a scrubber 😊

rainbowsandsmiles · 19/09/2018 23:03

How do you know she's "got all the time in the world?" Confused Hmm That's a massive assumption to make, unless you personally know her?

LookMoreCloselier · 19/09/2018 23:30

Yeah I don't know her, she's got the time to dick about filming herself cleaning the base of a lamp or whatever so she's certainly got more time on her hands than I do. Although she's obviously making a mint from it so good for her, I imagine that will be her new 'work'.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 19/09/2018 23:45

She’s still a hairdresser and was working just the other day. I don’t know why everyone’s havinng such a big debate over her. She’s motivated people to clean a little bit more, she’s funny, seems kind. & see all this “no kids” bullshit not everyone needs to be a parent.

blackvelvetband · 20/09/2018 00:01

I was sceptical of her and almost critical to begin with.
But this week I've totally hinched my downstairs and will work on upstairs from tomorrow on. I've never felt so motivated and it has spilled into work also... I've hinched my work basket lol!
Thank you @Mrshinchhome

squiz81 · 20/09/2018 08:14

@MrsFoxPlus4 nobody criticised her for not having kids, some people just felt keeping a house that clean was more achievable if you didn't have kids!

I did notice The organised mum mentioned in her stories yesterday that she's noticed a exponential rise in women contacting her saying they were experiencing a rise in their cleaning OCD etc. I wonder if she thinks it's a knock on effect of the latest craze. I'm not saying that's Mrs Hinch's fault by the way. It's more an observation on how social media can effect us.

Mrs H is opening a new Savers store today (it's only a 15 minute drive from mine.. ) I wonder if it will be manic!

SlimmingMumOf1 · 20/09/2018 08:43

@squiz81 it just to freshen up the bathroom and kitchen, that's all :)

SlimmingMumOf1 · 20/09/2018 08:45

@squiz81 I got Astonish Ovenware Cleaner from home bargains for 89p and it does exactly what The Pink Stuff does! Same texture, smells lemony. It cleaned my oven, my cookware, cleaned my outer fridge and also cleaned my bath and made it sparkling white!

CaptainCorrigan · 20/09/2018 08:59

She's lovely, funny and beautiful. However I think her popularity will drop as quickly as it has risen.

I get the feeling that she is under an agent of sorts now, hence why the content has dropped, I think the flu thing is a red herring. I think her this morning appearance was a little bit of a farce, because her tip for the mattress was not what she does, we all know she mixes bicarb and zoflora which is dangerous, hence why she couldn't do that on tv. They also wouldn't allow her to advise using multiple products at once because it's ridiculous.

As soon as the ads roll in she will not be able to stay being herself as she will have to be product orientated.

The point of her page is her stories, that's why people follow her but if she's not posting these at the peak of her popularity then people will get bored and find something else. That's the problem with instafame.

SharpLily · 20/09/2018 09:00

I like to keep things clean so I was pretty interested in the whole Mrs Hinch thing after reading about her on here. I don't like her house but what really did it for me was the This Morning appearance. She does seem very nice but I just can't cope with the WAG styling, the "what's taramasalata" nonsense or, much worse, the "literallay" every second word. Just no. It was too awful so I won't be paying anymore attention.

CaptainCorrigan · 20/09/2018 09:02

As for helping those with anxiety, it's a dangerous ground for those who genuinely suffer with it. I have personally been on the OCD side, and if you have anxiety it's not easy to come back from.
