Tom Daley to be new face of Pampers

Women have never been good enough to be the face of a brand. But in a brave and stunning move for equality , Pampers have picked Daley and Black as perfect brand ambassadors

Soup

No, not pissed of. Just noticing, is all.

RJnomore1 · 23/08/2018 07:29

I WAS going to say this is to do with that idea of childcare not being ok forcstrsight men - it's a women's job Bd it's ok for gay men to join in because well they're gay men aren't they but not straight men...

As in it's actually reinforcing that hierarchy again...but then someone posted John legend and blew my half naked pre coffee musings out of the water

HelpmeobiMN · 23/08/2018 07:31

Care to take back you homphobia accusation?

No, I stand by it. I appreciate that it wasn’t your intention, but intention alone isn’t enough. It’s possible to be homophobic without meaning to or intending it. And in your case everything you have said suggests that you think gay men should get to the back of the queue when it comes to being represented as parents. Telling gay people to stop being visible and out in the media is homophobic, even if you think your reasons for it are valid.

I’m leaving this thread now as i’m finding it upsetting, but I hope you’ll think about what I said.

RJnomore1 · 23/08/2018 07:31

I cannot believe the typos on that sorry.

You can work most out but just to confirm my thoughts are half BAKED not half naked.

TransplantsArePlants · 23/08/2018 07:34

Helpme

I see. I'd say there's plenty of visibility of gay parents, starting with Elton John and David Furnish, and plenty of others

I too am finding your viewpoint upsetting, as a women. And I haven't flung name-calling out there into the ether

ADastardlyThing · 23/08/2018 07:38

How embarrassing for Tom to be used by pampers to score woke points :(

Jaxtellerswife · 23/08/2018 07:40

Whoever said about cheating, I forget but people that cheat still use nappies on their children Hmmit's not an ad for monogamy. It's a nappy.
In my experience men change them too.
This thread is very silly but has also highlighted the campaign; therefore giving pampers more advertising. Someone in their marketing is smiling into their coffee this morning!

AgathaRaisonDetra · 23/08/2018 07:40

Placemarking so that I can read the deletion message later on. I hate it when you're half way through reading a thread and it goes PFffffff.

What happened to the thread with the blood stains under the stairs?

Jaxtellerswife · 23/08/2018 07:41

@ADastardlyThing I'm sure Tom will be just fine 😏

NicoAndTheNiners · 23/08/2018 07:43

Ha ha, I really thought they’d called the baby tomorrow as well!

Really not bothered about this. Blokes are parents too so if they want men on the adverts fab.

P3onyPenny · 23/08/2018 07:43

Homophobic and sexist in one thread. How lovely. MN at its best.

Billions of dad's change nappies and thus buy Pampers, suspect my dp changed equal if not more sooooo a man being the face of Pampers is hardly anti women unless you're inferring only women should be changing nappies.

The only issue I have is with Pampers not being that great for the environment. With their money Id have thought they could endorse a product more environmentally friendly.

I'm reporting the thread.

MissusGeneHunt · 23/08/2018 07:44

So is the answer then to have a single unknown male, or single unknown female pictured (with baby!) as we will then not know their sexuality? Could be gay, could be straight.

Or just a baby?!

Just a thought. And yes it's good to see a bloke being 'the face' of Pampers IMO.

TransplantsArePlants · 23/08/2018 07:47

P30ny

It's weird that you read my posts and took from it that only women should change nappies. Because it's quite the opposite.

I agree about environmental impact of nappies.

Iknowwhoyouare123 · 23/08/2018 07:57

Drew Brees (American football quarterback) was advertising Pampers years ago.

BabySharkDooDooDooDoo · 23/08/2018 08:03

Its a good thing i reckon as nowadays families come in all sorts of setups now

Neshoma · 23/08/2018 08:04

P30ny why the need to 'report'. It's debate and conversation. Stop looking to be offended.

pinkdelight · 23/08/2018 08:07

Phew, I thought Tomorrow Daley was another one of these Celeb BB types I've never heard of!

OrchidInTheSun · 23/08/2018 08:12

I don't if Daley is gay or straight. I just have never noticed any brand ambassadors for Pampers and thought a man was an odd choice for the first one, given that women probably make 98% of nappy buying decisions. Pampers advertise on here but I doubt they advertise on Pistonheads

But yes I should have googled. Blush

Report the thread??? Gees...there's always one Hmm

P3onyPenny · 23/08/2018 08:18

There is nothing comment worthy about a gay couple having babies, buying nappies and thus advertising them.

A thread commenting and decrying it is homophobic pure and simple. Also, wailing that women make the most nappy buying decisions and should be the face of nappies is sexist to boot.

I've no idea what 'woke points' are, but as the first daddy in a Pampers as was the heterosexual JohnLegend (if indeed he was the first - he was certainly before this campaign though), and as many women have featured, I'm reasonably ready to bet that it's as irrelevant as the other inaccuracies on this thread.

P3onyPenny · 23/08/2018 08:25

Aren't you charming.Hmm

MissusGeneHunt · 23/08/2018 08:28

I don't understand why you feel there's 'wailing' and that it's sexist to suggest women do more choosing and buying? There may be more joint decisions than we know about, but why is mentioning it sexist?

NerrSnerr · 23/08/2018 08:32

I can't believe it's 98% of women who do the choosing/ buying of nappies. In our house it's whoever is going shopping that day. I don't think either of us have changed our choice of nappies based on the gender of the person advertising.

Talking about the amount of nappies Tom might change, I wonder how many Jessica Ennis Hill was changing after Reggie was born and was training for the world champs? Or are we just judging men for allegedly not changing nappies?
