Women have never been good enough to be the face of a brand. But in a brave and stunning move for equality , Pampers have picked Daley and Black as perfect brand ambassadors

abacucat that's rubbish. Parenting is about far more than biology. Would you say my sperm donor is my son's father? Or is it just women you don't think should be able to choose whether to be a parent?

Coldilox · 23/08/2018 11:46

NerrSnerr quite

abacucat · 23/08/2018 11:59

She grew the baby for 9 months inside her body. So yes, she is the mother.

She's not the parent though. Tom and his husband are the baby's parents.

Gross

rainbowsandsmiles · 23/08/2018 12:02

What's gross? Confused

abacucat · 23/08/2018 12:08

Are you saying this baby does not have a mother?

rainbowsandsmiles · 23/08/2018 12:10

The baby has a mother, the mother is not the baby's parent though. Tom and his husband are the parents.

abacucat · 23/08/2018 12:15

You can argue semantically about words. But we know that most kids when they grow up, do see the woman who grew them inside her and gave birth to them, as important.
And the law was changed on sperm donors no longer being anonymous, because to many adults it was important to meet their biological father.

RibbityNoo · 23/08/2018 12:18

This entire thread is goady fuckery, started by an OP intent on stirring up readers with completely wrong information. Homophobia, plain as plain could be.

Mn has already been publicly hauled over the coals once for having a lengthy thread painting these actual real people as baddies for the way they became parents. Let's not go along with the OP's agenda and go through it all over again.

rainbowsandsmiles · 23/08/2018 12:26

Same sex couples do adopt or have surrogate babies though. Is it just gay couples who you think should know the mum or do you think lesbian couples should involve the Dad too?

P3onyPenny · 23/08/2018 12:28

What about donor super, eggs and embryos for hetro couples,is that not ok then?

OrchidInTheSun · 23/08/2018 14:02

No, that's not true Ribbity. You can froth all you like but I'm not homophobic. I do however think there is something wrong with rich people buying babies from poor women.

BlueBug45 · 23/08/2018 14:14

@OrchidInTheSun so why are you picking on a gay couple when you can pick on heterosexual couples?

SoupDragon · 23/08/2018 14:15

Do you know the surrogate then?

SillySallySingsSongs · 23/08/2018 14:23

Completely agree.

You have absolutely no idea as to who the surrogate was.

rainbowsandsmiles · 23/08/2018 14:34

How do you know the baby's mother is poor? Confused
For all you know she is rich and just wanted to give a couple a baby.
Lots of women are surrogates because they want to be, not because they want money because they're poor.

OrchidInTheSun · 23/08/2018 14:34

Shes American. She was paid by them to carry a baby.

I don't know any heterosexual couples who used a surrogate and went to a different country to find a surrogate because only altruistic surrogacy is legal in the U.K. I'm sure they're out there though. Feel free to tell me about them and I'll judge them too. Smile I find selling babies and renting women's bodies abhorrent.

OP posts:
Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 23/08/2018 14:37

The baby wasn't sold. I take it one of them is the biological father? Also, the woman wasn't forced into it.

OrchidInTheSun · 23/08/2018 14:39

This is a really good article by Victoria Smith which pretty much addresses my concerns around commercial surrogacy: www.independent.co.uk/voices/tom-daley-commercial-surrogacy-children-dustin-lance-black-a8426816.html

Incidentally I did not know that about the Kardashian woman until I read this article. I find it just as disturbing

You might remember that the England footballer Fabian Delph became a dad during the World Cup. Imagine if it was him doing the Pampers ad. Nobody would give two hoots about that, it'd be "Oh look at him changing the nappy, what a great daddy he is".

Why is Tom Daley different? Oh yeah...

OrchidInTheSun · 23/08/2018 14:40

Nope, no idea who he is either Smile

SoupDragon · 23/08/2018 14:41

So, you’re just assuming she’s poor.

Twotailed · 23/08/2018 14:45

There is so much homophobia on this thread, it’s a disgrace. MN should delete - with threads like this it’s no wonder this site (which is actually usually wonderful) gets such a reputation for being a nest of prejudice against anyone other than white, heterosexual mothers.

RoseWhiteTips · 23/08/2018 14:48

Tom Daly is someone you can definitely have too much of. 🙄
