Women have never been good enough to be the face of a brand. But in a brave and stunning move for equality , Pampers have picked Daley and Black as perfect brand ambassadors

'Woke' has some insidious implications though, I.e. If you're not woke, you're still asleep/ignorant.
It also has shades of cultural appropriation.
It's not just a reverse dig at the liberals.
Personally, I'm not keen on it either as a badge or an insult!
Overall, I think having a gay male couple associated with a product that is all about child rearing is actually a bold move. There has been a huge media interest in this baby and as a marketing move, this is very smart.

Agree with this. They're parents, they have everyone talking about parenting, sorted.

For all you know, Rufus, I may have a strong record in Olympic diving myself! Perhaps, Tom and I have professional links...

Wink
SoupDragon · 23/08/2018 23:09

Well he's young enough to wear them still

Clearly not whilst he’s wearing his diving trunks.

rainbowsandsmiles · 23/08/2018 23:11

At a bit of a loss as to why this thread is still standing actually when on reading back half the OP's posts have been deleted for breaking talk guidelines! Doesn't that say a lot?!

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 23:14

I would pay good money to see that pike dive Grin

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 23:18

I count two deletions

Nowhere near half

So yes...i think your comment says a lot

rainbowsandsmiles · 23/08/2018 23:22

Several of OP's posts have been deleted. Why? If the topic in hand is fine, why have they been deleted?

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 23:24

Yes 2 of the ops posts have been deleted

Unless someone screenshot them we may never know why

She may have been rude to another poster for example or indeed homophobic

Who knows?

But i dont see why the thread needs to be deleted as its made a number of important points

HebeMumsnet · 23/08/2018 23:32

Trust me, Rufus, there is not mind bleach enough in the world for a mental image of that Pike Dive.

rainbowsandsmiles · 23/08/2018 23:33

She may have been rude to another poster

Been here from the start of the thread. There was no rudeness.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 23:36

rainbow

I dont know what she said or why it was deleted

I don't believe you know why either

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 23:36

hebe Grin

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 23:37

rainbow

And my point still stands

The op has been deleted twice, they are a few more deletions

But the majority of the posts still stand

And a number of those have made some interesting and thoughtful posts

HebeMumsnet · 23/08/2018 23:44

Just to be clear, honestly there are no mysteries here. We deleted a few posts we felt strayed into homophobia, albeit hopefully unintentionally.

We wanted to leave the thread as a whole as we felt it was a valid debate and some really good points were made. We're just keen to make sure it doesn't become a thread about whether it's ok for gay men to be parents, because (a) obviously it is ok and (b) that's not what we thought the thread was about. We just want to keep things on track if possible.

Now. Where'd I put my noseclip...

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 23:47

Thank you for the clarification hebe

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 23/08/2018 23:49

Off to bed now

Hope you find the noseclip hebe Grin

Ugh. I only think of the woman whose womb they hired and how she must feel shoving her child in everyone's face.

Surrogates give their babies to others though, they're not the parents.
They know the baby has new parents when they hand them over.
Why would she feel anything if they're "shoving her child in everyone's face?"
She'd know it wasn't her child. As she'd agreed to be a surrogate for another couple.

The body of a woman used by rich men

Women voluntarily volunteer to be surrogates all the time. Are you saying no gay couple should have babies - I mean, as they obviously can only adopt or have a baby via surrogacy? Both which means the baby being given away by the birth mother?
How are they supposed to start a family then?

Rebecca36 · 24/08/2018 00:34

Does Tom Daley still wear nappies? Except when swimming of course (no-one would notice if he did a wee in the pool).

BlackShirt · 24/08/2018 00:39

Men and women who love each other have been having babies since the dawn of time. Occasionally a gay man will have a baby with a woman he loves, there are ways of loving another outside of romantic or lust love.

Bejazzled · 24/08/2018 00:43

Mine are a long time out of nappies but me and Dh both agree that if this advertising was pushed down our throats we would have deliberately bought another brand. Absolute turn off, like the frozen chip advert trying to piggy back on definitions of family to sell their crap product.
