Now that the evenings are getting darker I feel sad that summer is ending .. and pissed off with the "cosy" people !! I hate winter .. what is "cosy" about bumbling about in the dark and scraping ice off your car, getting fat with stodgy food , seeing all the shit sentimental Christmas TV adverts and being pale , corpse like and with drizzled on hair !!! .. this is light hearted but I just don't get it ! .... I've stayed away from the " We hate summer" threads as instructed as they were not for me ... so now it's my turn !!

Yanbu I actually hate he descent into winter. All the people celebrating the end of the hot weather - that was it! It's not coming back until at least next May/June and all we have ahead is dark, short, icy days with loads of fucking illness. I hate it!!
I can just about manage autumn but the fact it just turns into winter is enough to make me despair.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 19/08/2018 08:48

Each season has its own merits, that is something I love about the uk. Autumn is particularly stunning where I live

LeonoraFlorence · 19/08/2018 08:58

My DD1 has declared this weekend the start of Autumn. We all went out picking brambles yesterday with our wellies and waterproofs on and made jam, baked scones and ate them in front of the fire yesterday afternoon. DH is arriving home tonight from working in the states, he will be most surprised that Summer is over here!

Branleuse · 19/08/2018 08:59

I dont mind autumn and early winter, but by the time jan feb and march come round its depressing. Endless cold and grey and drizzle. Cant warm my house properly. Last winter was hideous. I had my heating on full time and still couldnt get it past about 17 degrees.
This summer has been a bit hot here and there but im sad that things are feeling autumnal already.

SaoirseTheSeahorse · 19/08/2018 09:02

Early Autumn is my absolute favourite season. Second favourite is Spring. Hot summer and freezing winter can do one though! I’m not into either. And I look a state in the heat. Not much better in the freezing cold. So if we’re basing our favourite seasons on how hawt we look Hmm, then neither extreme works for me.

AliasGrape · 19/08/2018 09:04

I love Autumn it’s my absolute favourite but ffs it’s still mid August! I wasn’t done with summer actually.

MeyMary · 19/08/2018 09:04

I love autumn.
And I love going for a walk in a local forest when everything is frozen, white, calm and quiet.

I (briefly) saw two deers last winter and it looked like a Christmas card.
I do however dislike sludge/snow sludge.

Autumn is a lovely season as well. I also like the last days of summer / when it's still warm but you already see and feel the first signs of autumn.

And I absolutely love crips autumn days.

MeyMary · 19/08/2018 09:06

And I've just realised that my comment sounds super jumbled.

Anyhow, I like autumn and winter :)

ClashCityRocker · 19/08/2018 09:10

I like autumn in late September and October.

Until then it's summer. I will love autumn when it comes but would like a bit more good weather first!

Is all this mooning about autumn in August a recent thing? I'm sure when we were kids August was still the height of summer. I remember it was still very much summer for the first couple of weeks going back.

Mind you, I suppose as soon as we get into actual autumn everything's Christmas, so maybe that's why?

Taffeta · 19/08/2018 09:11
  1. It’s August
  2. Nice weather lasting til October this year apparently

I like proper seasons

A proper summer, like we are having, is a rare and wonderful thing
I had a base tan to go on holiday! First time ever, awesome

I also love autumn. In November though, not September. Or August. Hmm

QueenOfMyWorld · 19/08/2018 09:21

I prefer summer clothes,I'm much more comfortable in flip flops than boots but I must admit I love dark nights and my house feeling cosy in autumn/winter.Sleet and rain however can fuck right off

Dragonglass · 19/08/2018 09:23

It has felt quite autumnal here for the last week 😢
I do actually love autumn, I'm just not ready for it yet. Our heatwave ended a little while ago and I miss it. I want a couple more trips to the beach in a bikini not bracing walks on the coast.

Yogafailure · 19/08/2018 09:24

I'm one of the people you hate OP. I can't stand summer "oh it's too hot...oh where's the sun gone" tribe. At least it autumn/winter it's supposed to get cold and dark..and it does. Sunshine = blinding migraine. All 3 dcs suffer hellish hay fever. Trying to catch dc to put suncream on. It's SO enjoyable and relaxing Hmm

I'm away out for a walk with the dog in the drizzle in my cosy boots, jumper and coat!

twattymctwatterson · 19/08/2018 09:28

Btw for those saying "it's August" remember all of the UK doesn't have the same weather. It's 15 degrees wet and windy where I am. Leaves have already started falling.

MeyMary · 19/08/2018 09:32

Btw, I agree with a pp. August is still summer :)

dementedma · 19/08/2018 09:34

summer has definitely finished here in Scotland - the last 3 weeks have been pretty endless drizzle and grey skies. it has been wonderful to have some sun this year, although to read some of the posts on here you would think Armageddon had struck because the temperature was above 20 degress..

There is a very romanticised view of autumn and winter on here - all this crisp, cold days, rosy-cheeked children kicking up leaves or sledging, snuggling under cosy blankets with the ubiquitous "hot choc"....in reality is is rainy, muddy, damp, cold and cheerless for about 6 months. Heating bills are huge, elderly mother is housebound because of slippery pavements, snow fucks up travel arrangements and massive fucking spiders invade the house. I can appreciate autumn colours as well as the next person but much prefer some warmth, light and sunshine

Alicatz66 · 19/08/2018 09:34

At least I will have my hot flushes to warm me up 😂

sanityisamyth · 19/08/2018 09:37

100% agree OP. It's the worst time of the year.

pandarific · 19/08/2018 09:41

I get to buy a onesie. Smile

Yogafailure · 19/08/2018 09:42

I've never felt that August is summer. It annoys me that we're still in school (Scotland) past the longest day as it is. Last night the light was fading before 8.30. There are leaves starting to change colour. The long summer nights of sitting in the garden until 10.30 or longer finished in late July and we really tried to make them last. Farmers are ploughing fields, the blackberries are out. I always feel August is autumn.

Perhaps if I'd grown up south of the border with school holidays until September I'd feel August was summer 🤷🏼‍♀️

MeyMary · 19/08/2018 09:50

@Yogafailure
It probably depends on the weather... It will probably be about 28 this afternoon and the weather forecast predicted temperatures up to 30 this week...

The leavers are however starting to fall as well / the woods don't look like they usually would this time of.the year.
Probably because of the drought.

Anyhow, I'd probably be less enthused about autumn if it started in August...

MeyMary · 19/08/2018 09:51

Depends on the weather/climate in general.

flowercrow · 19/08/2018 09:52

Taffeta where is the hot weather lasting till October? I'm really hoping it won't come back where I am.
Here it's grey and rainy and cold enough to walk the dogs in an anorak.
To the PP with arthritis, that sounds so miserable. I'm the opposite in that I have photophobia and on extremely sunny days am unable to leave the house.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 19/08/2018 09:53

People saying summer isn't over yet, weather systems don't have calendars. Maybe autumn is starting early this year?

Taffeta · 19/08/2018 09:57

Yes fair enough we are SE England

Heres the lasting til Oct quality article I read, yes I know long range forecasting impossible to predict but one can hope
