AIBU to get pissed off with all the Autumn and Winter "cosy" people

Now that the evenings are getting darker I feel sad that summer is ending .. and pissed off with the "cosy" people !! I hate winter .. what is "cosy" about bumbling about in the dark and scraping ice off your car, getting fat with stodgy food , seeing all the shit sentimental Christmas TV adverts and being pale , corpse like and with drizzled on hair !!! .. this is light hearted but I just don't get it ! .... I've stayed away from the " We hate summer" threads as instructed as they were not for me ... so now it's my turn !!

I love the seasons. This summer has been lovely - we’ve done some walking, played cricket in the back garden and been swimming in the sea.

Once we hit September, it’ll be crisp first thing in the morning and reasonably warm in the daytime. The children will be back to school and I’ll get all the jobs I’ve avoided done.

toffee1000 · 20/08/2018 17:55

“Endless months of heat?” “Did the snow drag on for eight weeks?”

Seriously?? So we had eight weeks of hot weather, as opposed to FORTY-FOUR of crap, rainy, cold, miserable weather. I don’t think we summer lovers are the greedy ones here. Winter and snow and generally miserable weather drags on for FAR longer than eight weeks.

I don’t have kids yet, but I cannot imagine snuggling under a blanket watching a film with them to be relaxing. And having to bundle them up in top-jumper-coat-hat-scarf-gloves sounds far more of a faff than just putting on a t-shirt and shorts.

There is NOTHING fun about going out for a walk in the rain, NOTHING. Even if you wear appropriate raincoats. You’ve got your head constantly bent so you’re looking at the ground rather than your surroundings. I wear glasses so I can’t hold my head straight, the rain gets on my lenses so I can’t see properly. And I remember going on a dog walk where the rain was so horrendous that it dripped down the front of my coat and into my top/bra. That wasn’t pleasant.

Smudge100 · 20/08/2018 17:57

‘Cosy’ is usually just a ploy to sell you something.

Meadowflowers · 20/08/2018 18:11

So with you on this!
That puff of dust you see is me sprinting after summer trying to drag it back. I have loved this summer! Spring and summer is my time of year. Rebirth, new life and everything bursting into bloom as opposed to everything dying!!!!! I don't hate Autumn as I do like the pretty colours of nature, o do hate the cold weather of winter though.

SoupDragon · 20/08/2018 18:11

Winter and snow and generally miserable weather drags on for FAR longer than eight weeks.

And happens every year without fail.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 20/08/2018 18:11

A ploy? If you’d part with your cash simply because someone describes something you wouldn’t otherwise want as “cosy”, you fully deserve to be ripped off!

Storm4star · 20/08/2018 18:12

We've had 8 weeks of official heatwave weather (aka hell on earth). That doesn't mean it's been particularly pleasant or comfortable for us heat haters either side of that. It's still 25 where I am and very humid. I still need my air con at night. 19 is my most comfortable temperature so 25 is still a good few degrees over. The relentless sun has really got on my nerves too. I can handle it much better being in hot countries where the sun still sets at a decent time rather than bloody 10pm! I can't wait till it gets dark at 5. So definitely for me winter is cosy and nice. Sitting in my living room in PJ's snuggled under a blanket with the lamps on is far nicer (and much more relaxing) than lying on the sofa in underwear but still a sweaty mess, with the bloody sun still blazing through the window.

Imsosorryalan75 · 20/08/2018 18:22

I'm with you. I can't get enough of this weather. So easy drying clothes, no endless layers to dress kids in, so lovely to plan outdoor activities in advance.

The BBC reckons warm weather is here until October! Fingers crossed. 😁🤞

Lovingholiday · 20/08/2018 18:33

I am with you Op!!!
Love summer, sandals, strappy tops, ice creams, etc etc ☀️☀️☀️☀️

ChocoholicsAsylum · 20/08/2018 18:41

Totally with you OP!! Im in Scotland and the summer seems to have ended rather quickly and I am gutted. While everyone was moaning I was really pleased. I could live forever in it

lindyloo57 · 20/08/2018 18:44

i love summer best, i wish it stayed warm into oct/ november. this summer has been the best for a long time, hope we get the same next year.

Harrykanesrightsock · 20/08/2018 18:52

I agree Op. Winter happens every year without fail. This Summer has been lovely. I hate the dark nights, detest the cold weather, the rain, the snow. I feel that I drag myself through 8 months of the year and only feel like I’m living during the warmer months.

Carriecakes80 · 20/08/2018 18:57

Summer kills me, I get awful migraines in the sun, and humidity. But Autumn and Winter, its lovely! The evenings are darker, I go out so much more than in the summer, walks through the woods are lovely and not sweaty and horrible lol, the kids settle earlier as it gets darker earlier, and me and the fella get more adult time n fun stuff as the kids are so much easier to settle lol. x
Bloody LOVE winter!!! So cosy! ;-)

Nearly47 · 20/08/2018 18:58

Summer is great but I Love love autumn though. It's perfect. Not too cold, days not ridiculously long that I wake at 4 in the morning with birds singing on my window. Beautiful colours, still some sunshine.... Don't like winter though. Waking up in dark, leaving work in the dark.... Awfull. And the frost in the car every morningAngry. Hate snow too. Beautifully, etc until you have to go anywhere.

Dilemmacentral · 20/08/2018 19:07

Generally overweight people don’t enjoy summer

Skinny people don’t enjoy winter

As one of the latter, winter can be torturous. I was cooking the children’s dinner with my winter coat on last year!

April241 · 20/08/2018 19:09

Love autumn and winter! Love the colours, the dark nights, big jumpers and leggings, cups of tea, red cups, my kids birthday, my birthday, Halloween, sitting in the house and it’s proper stormy outside. Squeeee. Much excitement!

SoupDragon · 20/08/2018 19:12

That doesn't mean it's been particularly pleasant or comfortable for us heat haters either side of that

Luckily the year is 9/12 of damp grey coldness for you to look forward to

browneyes77 · 20/08/2018 19:16

I hear you OP!

I have naturally curly hair which I straighten. So rainy weather and my hair don’t mix.

My company car is a BMW which is shit in the snow so I hate the snow (hate it anyway, it’s cold and I hate driving in it). Snow looks pretty but is less fun when you have to drive in the horrible shite!

Autumn I can live with as long as the sun is out and you get those lovely sunny autumn days. Rain in autumn causes potential falling over on slippery leaves and frizzy curly hair again.

Also I do amateur photography so summer and spring are the best months for me as most of my photography is outdoors shooting wildlife and nature. Not so much fun in the rain when it’s cloudy and just generally grim.

Kaybush · 20/08/2018 19:19

Summer is always a bit of an unknown in the UK because of the weather, but Autumn just does what it says on the tin!

Also all the best TV is released in the Autumn, plus all the Oscar-worthy films in time for the Spring awards season. Then after the run up to Halloween you start getting all the Christmas adverts. It really is my happiest time of year!

dorisdog · 20/08/2018 19:21

I can't wait to get all my jumpers and big woolly socks out Grin

LilJackeraneon · 20/08/2018 19:35

I love Autumn, because my hayfever clears up! Grin I would probably enjoy summer a lot more if I didn't have to deal with itchy eyes, a blocked nose and a tight chest for most of it.
It was admittedly a bit too hot for me this year at points, I must admit.

GreenShadow · 20/08/2018 19:54

100% vote for Summer!

Wearing as little as possible, no need to take jumpers out, not being cold at work - I just feel so much freer in summer - not restricted by clothing or weather.

Seriously, what is there to like about dark nights as someone up thread mentioned. Maybe they live in well-lit city. We live in the dark countryside so once it gets dark, it really gets dark.

And what are these 'smells' people seem to like about autumn? Can't think of any smells, whether nice or not.

HelenaDove · 20/08/2018 19:57

"Generally overweight people don’t enjoy summer"

i didnt enjoy summer at a size 28

i still dont enjoy it at a size 14

SoupDragon · 20/08/2018 19:58

Autumn just does what it says on the tin!

Yes, it’s generally damp and miserable.

JacquesHammer · 20/08/2018 20:07

I just think it’s the way you think. I love coming into a house on a dark night, I’m in the country too and love proper pitch black for hours. It’s just all part of the package for me.
