What's happened to having a bit of pride in yourself?

daffodil10 · 18/08/2018 19:11

I am genuinely asking this question out of curiosity not being inflammatory but I will no doubt be accused of this in typical mnet style! Anyway here goes-

I don't understand why some women are so proud of the fact that the first thing they do when they get home is to take their bra off and put pjs on.

A) I don't have time as when I get in from work there's stuff to do.
B) why would you want to sit there with everything dangling about

I think it is much better for your state of mind to have a bit of pride In Yourself, to wear a bit of makeup, clean clothes, brush your hair etc. On another note if your bra is so uncomfortable you're wearing the wrong bra!

*depth not sept

Trying to type properly while watching Netflix obviously IS mutually incompatible!

Mugglemom · 22/08/2018 13:56

Do what you want in your home, but I think it's pretty judgmental to assume that women who enjoy being comfortable in their own homes don't have pride in themselves.

SoyDora · 22/08/2018 13:58

I had the worst fitting of my life in M&S! I go to bravissimo and mine fit perfectly. Sometimes however I still feel more comfortable without it on. Everyone is different!

Bluntness100 · 22/08/2018 13:59

Agree, it's so deeply offensive and narcissistic to big yourself up and the expense of others.

My achievenemts are different, I like to do killer sudoku whilst she likes to wear make up.

The only conclusion that that poster, any many others, is somefollks like To wear make up and bras. You can't r assume that that means you can't also do sudoku or some such shite.

I've done sudoku whilst wearing make up and a Bra and I can categorically assure everyone my brain power wasn't lessened by it.

Thehop · 22/08/2018 14:00

Some people drink some people smoke

I like my saggy boobs to dangle free. Can’t see how any of the above affect anyone but the women themselves!

SoyDora · 22/08/2018 14:02

I agree with you Bluntness100, however the OP was stating that people who don’t wear make up, or choose to wear no bra in the house, or like to wear their pyjamas when they get home from work have no pride in themselves. Which is also deeply offensive!

corythatwas · 22/08/2018 14:12

To my grandmother's generation, wearing makeup was a sign that a woman was fast and took no pride in herself. I don't think progress can really be defined as deciding that a woman not wearing makeup has no pride in herself.

corythatwas · 22/08/2018 14:12

Each to her own- now that is something I would define as progress.

Bluntness100 · 22/08/2018 14:14

Soy, agree, and I've responsed to that, I'm now pointing out that insinuating women who wear a bra or make up can't do other worthwhile things is equally as offensive.

Bluntness100 · 22/08/2018 14:17

There is no progress. Because someone women chose to negatively judge other women on their appearance. It doesn't matter what the negative judgement is, it's the fact it's still happening in 2018.

The op started it, but she's had a pile on of folks insinuating that they are in some wat more inteligent due to lack of make up or a bra.

When women stop attacking each other over their appearance, then that's when we will have made progress.

corythatwas · 22/08/2018 14:23

Indeed, Bluntness.

Stupomax · 22/08/2018 14:33

I wasn't trying to be snide, just trying to work out how on earth these women hate wearing their bras!
Honestly I think everyone who hates wearing a bra should hasten to the nearest John Lewis or M&S and get fitted properly. They don't need to be uncomfortable! I can't even feel mine when I'm wearing them!

People are different.
Some people feel things differently to some other people.
We have been to M&S for fittings.
We have been to John Lewis for fittings.
We have even been to Rigby & Peller for fittings, just like the queen.
We have well fitted bras.
They are still uncomfortable.
This is because we are different to you.

We taste things differently to you.
We smell things differently to you.
We feel things differently to you.

This is because we are different to you.

TittyGolightly · 22/08/2018 14:39

M+S is renowned for not fitting bras properly. And even if they did have a clue, they don’t make them big enough for me.

Onthebrink87 · 22/08/2018 14:40

I very rarely wear a bra. Nothing to do with how busy my day might be I just find them uncomfortable and unnecessary as i have nothing at all to 'dangle' I didn't realise people might think I should take more pride in myself Blush

Growingboys · 22/08/2018 14:44

Of course we're all different!

And if you want to persist in wearing uncomfortable bras (or not!) be my guest.

TittyFahLaEtcetera · 22/08/2018 14:54

Most days I'm ready to take my bra off by 3pm, so I think I do very well to last until 7pm when I usually get home.

My DM told me I wasn't taking pride in myself when I told her I don't shave my legs year round. She might take pride in that, but I take pride in plenty of other things I do and have achieved, hairy winter legs notwithstanding. I think she'd die of apoplexy if she knew I that I don't shave as frequently as she thinks I should (she and DSis are fair whilst I'm brunette and she's convinced brunettes are harier)!

And I wouldn't cook dinner or clean my bathroom with bleach in my work clothes. No way!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 22/08/2018 14:56

100% agree with this. I used to wear a 34B, despite knowing this wasn't quite right because it was the closest approximation to my odd-numbered measurements. Now, I suspect I should have been in a 32C but when I went to M&S, they wanted to fit me in a 36AA!! It was like a fucking handkerchief bikini on me! Useless.
I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot bargepole for fittings now.

And Debenhams weren't much better a few years back either - fitted me in an H cup bra, when I needed an E. SO uncomfortable! Went to another branch and they very kindly let me swap it for an E cup instead.

AsYouAre · 22/08/2018 15:02

I get into my comfies and even my dressing gown when I get home and the day is done.

I like being cosy in my own space

I know, what a scruff Hmm

windysocks · 22/08/2018 15:11

bra off and Pj's on is what keeps me going at work ! especially in the winter - look forward to coming home I usually get tea on whilst still in coat then get Pj's on whilst tea is cooking - blissSmilealso then I know I dont gave to go out again Grin

actualpuffins · 22/08/2018 15:31

That must be interesting for your colleagues. And fellow commuters. Grin

daffodil10 · 22/08/2018 18:01

Lim and many others I have already said I change from work clothes into casual stuff just not pjs. Read the thread !!

daffodil, how do you expect us to read the thread and not notice that you mention makeup in your very first post? Here:

"I think it is much better for your state of mind to have a bit of pride In Yourself, to wear a bit of makeup, clean clothes, brush your hair etc"

daffodil10 · 22/08/2018 18:09

Cory I didn't say that I didn't mention makeup in my op. I was confirming that for all those people saying that i was cooking dinner in heels and a dress - that this was bollocks. I have already said I change into jeans

OneOfTheGrundys · 22/08/2018 18:12

I fit myself in M&S now.
I think, generally speaking, smaller back larger cup was the direction to go. I like their bras but seeing what I do on here is not have a fittng there.

corythatwas · 22/08/2018 21:34

ok, daffodil, so would you now care to explain why you think not wearing makeup at home (or, for that matter, at work) shows you have no pride in yourself?
