DH is being dim, isn't he? Financial

So we usually do our regular online shop at Sainsbury's, because this is one of the very few supermarkets that shock what DH likes for his dinners (very restrictive dietary needs).

Anyway, I've just noticed Morrison's sale the same thing for cheaper, it's on offer. Only about 30p difference, but we by several of these so it all adds up. Plus, their basics are cheaper.

DH is putting his foot down and saying no, he doesn't want to try Morrison's.

I've asked why and he says there's no point. I said we could save £5/10. He said I don't really care about saving a few quid Confused

Yeah, like we have money to just burn Hmm

So I asked again, and he said it's just too much faff to change.
I said but I've signed up instantly. He says no, I'm comfortable with Sainsbury's so leave it at that.

AIBU to think he's being bloody dim? Why wouldn't you save just a few quid? Why spend more money, even small amounts, when you don't have to?

He's adamant it's too much hassle. And says he isn't interested in saving a few quid. It's not worth it.

For context, either myself or him order the online shop. I was going to do it so it's not like he had to go out of his way to sign up or anything. I'd already done it.

In annoyance, he's agreed to add it all up and see if there's any difference at all. Sod's law it'll cost the same overall or be more expensive.

Not really sure why I'm writing this, perhaps I just need a rant Envy

He will most likely see the thread and get the hump. Hopefully it doesn't turn out that I'm U!

When we were deciding which online service to use, that is exactly what we did.

Foslady · 18/08/2018 10:34

So is he going to hand over to you the equivalent cash his Sainsbury’s shop is costing you each month for your enjoyment? I think he’s being a supermarket snob - a Morrisons van pulling up outside the house rather tha sainsburys ShockGrinGrin

escapetothecuntree · 18/08/2018 10:35

Thing is, most shops are minimum spend of £40. Which is fine, DH says it 'has to come to £40 anyway'

But I've tried explaining that if all his stuff comes to, say £30, I have £10 to play with for myself for lunches etc

Saving £10 a week would mean £520 per annum. I don't call that a few quid! Go to Lidl (super quality and delicious) and you'd save even more!

AjasLipstick · 18/08/2018 10:37

Why didn't you just order it? I would have.

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/08/2018 10:37

We’ve tried them all and Morrison’s are the best. Easy to order, very reliable, some variation in vegetable size but not an issue, reasonably priced, well packed, good delivery slots, friendly drivers. I’m never switching.

Of course you should try and save where you can. He’s being ridiculous not to give it a go. And I’m snorting with mirth at the idea of a diet so bloody special only one of the many big supermarkets can accommodate him Grin

Slartybartfast · 18/08/2018 10:37

Go to Aldi or if you must have online Asda

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/08/2018 10:38

X post. When your normal shop costs less one week you stick in some extra cleaning products, a bottle of wine, anything non perishable that you’ll use another time.

Is he always so difficult?

AtSea1979 · 18/08/2018 10:39

If he’s got some sort of intolerance/allergy that causes him to be ill I can understand his reluctance to change brands to save a fiver and risk being poorly when he is comfortable with Sainsbury’s brands and knows what he can have/can’t have.

OrchidInTheSun · 18/08/2018 10:39

I really want to know what only Sainsbury's sell for your husband's very restrictive dietary needs!

I'd just swap. I wouldn't even have a discussion tbh. It's a supermarket shop, not a package holiday

escapetothecuntree · 18/08/2018 10:42

We cannot use Aldi, Lidl or Asda for the big shop.

Aldi and Lidl aren't nearby, and I do my top up shop at Asda but can't do a full shop there

Anyway, DH just reported back and a lot of the things are actually more expensive at Morrison's Shock

For example, tinned carrots. 20p Sainsbury's. 36p Morrison's

Morrisons food is better quality than sainsburys - I have online shopped with both and found sainsburys pretty poor, especially with soft fruits like strawberries which they have delivered gooey with mould on, amongst other things, I was not impressed at all. Morrisons have just started delivering in our area and so far we have found the overall quality of their food better with less substitutions or damaged food/packaging than sainsburys, tesco or asda. We stayed with tesco for ages because of clubcard but got sick of ringing them every week because of damaged goods they delivered. Your DH obviously is digging his heels in because he doesn't like change.

thecatsthecats · 18/08/2018 10:44

Our rule is that the person doing the job gets to decide how it's done. But then I also wouldn't faff around about a few quid here and there.

I much prefer Aldi, but I also much prefer barely ever stepping inside a supermarket, so shop online.

trinitybleu · 18/08/2018 10:46

Tell him Morrisons online is provided by Ocado.

Yorkshirepudding1987 · 18/08/2018 10:47

I've always found Morrisons way more expensive than Sainsbury's. Morrisons fruit and veg seems to go off really quick as well.

Thatsfuckingshit · 18/08/2018 10:47

I dont really get this.

You say he is being a bit dim and you want to save money. He has agreed to compare both to see which is cheapest.

So he is conpromising? But you dont seem happy with this and betting morrisons comes up more expensive. If it does, whats your issue? He eants to use sainsburys, you want the cheaper option. If sainsburys is cheaper, then you would both be happy?

RussellHobb · 18/08/2018 10:47

You could use a comparison site to see which is cheaper?
I'd just leave him to get it from Sainsbury's and then I'd use Morrison's. You could actually try it all too.

extinctspecies · 18/08/2018 10:49

Who eats tinned carrots?

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 18/08/2018 10:50

Whereas I've always found Morrisons far far cheaper than Sainsbury's. And have never had a problem with the quality of their food.

I guess it depends on what you buy. I don't buy tinned veg for instance, just frozen mainly.

VoteHillary · 18/08/2018 10:50

I wouldn’t even have put it to a vote. Just order it from Morrison’s!

VoteHillary · 18/08/2018 10:51

Buy an actual carrot for 6p 🥕

bimbobaggins · 18/08/2018 10:55

Why don’t you just take turns a week about to save any arguments Smile

kirkandpetal · 18/08/2018 10:55

When we lived in our old house, our closest supermarket was Sainsbury's so we shopped there. We moved house and our nearest supermarket was a Morrison's.

I was staggered at the diff in price of weekly shop. Morrison's much cheaper and I much prefer their layout and quality.

That said, I buy a lot of dairy stuff now from Lidl (Edam slices, yoghurts for kids lunches, etc) as they are infinitely cheaper. But that's only really become possible because a Lidl
has opened up near us.

StealthPolarBear · 18/08/2018 10:55

If sainsbury is one of the very few supermarkets that stock what he can eat id see why he doesn't want to switch

Singlenotsingle · 18/08/2018 10:56

Tinned carrots? Bleugh! Shock
