Wearing white to SIL's wedding

Hi everyone, I need an opinion here,
I've just bought an outfit that I really like for my SIL's wedding. Only thing is, it's a black top with a white knee length skirt. I thought it looked nice and I would get away with it esp if I had some nice chunky accessories to go with it but now i'm having second thoughts after reading some blogs that say you should never wear any white to a wedding. Then again other sources say you can. What are your opinions on this? The wedding doesn't have a particular dress code and is in mid september. I have enclosed images of the skirt and top. Thanks.

@pollymere

Oh gosh, now I'm worried :/ I just like to pair a blazer or jacket with a nice dress for occasions like that. I prefer it to shawls or boleros...

And I've always assumed it was fine due to men wearing black (or dark) coats.... (or jackets, depends on the wedding, I suppose.)

Would a navy blazer work?

In Germany black is fine as long as it doesn't look like funeral attire. (I have combined a black dress with a colourful jacket, nude/neutral shoes and bag etc...)

Anyhow thank you for the explanation.
It really is all cultural, isn't it?

Like whether it's appropriate to wear black to a funeral. (DH and I once had a row about that!)

Bollocks men are in black suits or black pants all the time.

I've never heard anything about black being unlucky in my culture (which is British!) other cultures maybe but literally never heard that. I've only been to Scottish and English weddings and no ones said anything about black. A bride once wore a black and white dress at one I've been to

I'm not a massive fan of all this floral and be colourful stuff anyway, I often think people look a bit ridiculous. I mean it's not my place to judge them and I'd never ever say anything other than you look lovely but a grown woman in bright pink blue and white flowers with a big pink hat I just think why.

Wearing black/white (especially white lace!) to a wedding is definitely considered poor guest etiquette. I would never dream of doing it, and hope that guests at my upcoming wedding are the same.
