Well I am shocked. Nay, stunned! Stunned to my very core 😂😂😂

Hardy, like Elba, suffers from having tongue too bad for his mouth. Makes them both virtually unintelligible at times. I suspect Bane/Venom will have put him out of reach, but I could be wrong. Joe Dempsie’s another one I think could be ok. I’m beginning to think I’ve got a shot, to be honest. Pretty much every British actor under 40, seems to have been considered.

iklboo · 11/08/2018 17:19

Anyone but Aiden 'I was born under a wandering accent' Gillen. I'd rather have Alan Carr as Bond!

PositiveVibez · 11/08/2018 17:22

I'd rather have Alan Carr as Bond!

I think that is actually one bond film I could sit through 😁

FluffingtonPost · 11/08/2018 17:25

*@Soup

I have Paterson Joseph earmarked as both Bond and Dr Who though*

Off topic a bit I know, but he would be an amazing Dr Who!!

MissMarplesKnitting · 11/08/2018 17:26

Luke Evans might be a good punt. He was great as Gaston and has the handsome naughty twinkly eyed thing going on....

YouTurnIfYouWantTo · 11/08/2018 17:28

I love Idris, but no. It needs to be Tom Hardy.

KittyHawke80 · 11/08/2018 17:29

I genuinely think, 2018 or no, the studios will baulk at a gay man playing Bond. I think he’d be pretty good, though.

KittyHawke80 · 11/08/2018 17:29

balk

YouTurnIfYouWantTo · 11/08/2018 17:31

James Norton fits the bill; young, well spoken, tall and has the ‘ice cold’ thing going that makes me believe he’d be a shit hot assassin

I'm so glad you said this..I've been trying to explain elsewhere that though I love Idris, he would not be a good Bond because he lacks this. Daniel Craig has it too, that's why he has been so good and so believable as a trained killer.

MissMarplesKnitting · 11/08/2018 17:35

I watch our friends in the north and Daniel Craig was amazing in that as someone loving in the fringes of society with that hint of danger.

It's hard to find someone as obvious but James Norton certainly had that feel in Happy Valley. As does Cillian Murphy.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 11/08/2018 17:36

I could buy into Luke Evans, Michael Fassbender although he's too big a star now.
For Henry Cavill style looks but less famous, the chap from White Collar whose name now escapes me.Confused

YouTurnIfYouWantTo · 11/08/2018 17:39

Not Cillian Murphy, Michael Fassbender or Gerard Butler please. They all freak me out. "Shivers" (not a good shiver).

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/08/2018 17:43

Do you mean Matt Bomer Ihope?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/08/2018 17:45

I'm not sure about an American actor doing it...

I know Henry Cavill is Superman now, but I still picture him with that butterfly moustache in Stardust, playing Humphrey. Grin

MissMarplesKnitting · 11/08/2018 17:45

Fassbender ruled himself out.

I'm going for Jimmy Norton or Like Evans I think.

Idris....he's hot, but I think too old and not really a good enough actor for me. He seems a bit one dimensional.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 11/08/2018 17:46

That's the chap polkadots!

MissMarplesKnitting · 11/08/2018 17:46

Polkadots, I still picture Henry Cavill in the Tudors, bare of behind swoon

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/08/2018 17:49

Fleming mentions Bond having a cruel mouth. So I agree that Fleming saw the character as having an ice cold callous side underneath the veneer of charm. You need an actor to convey that this is a person who will kill someone simply because they have been instructed to do so.
Not all actors can do this without becoming one dimensional, it is hard create a deadly character that still feels like a person. (I was watching Gene Hackman in a film last night and he did it brilliantly)

YouTurnIfYouWantTo · 11/08/2018 17:51

Yes, yes! Chazs

Whatthefunk · 11/08/2018 17:53

I'm just rewatching the Night Manager, and the whole thing smacks of a very long Bond audition....

MissMarplesKnitting · 11/08/2018 17:55

Yes but Hiddleston just doesn't have "it" for me at all. He's great as an actor, I love him as Loki and in Shakespeare but I can't see him as Bond, somehow.

Whatthefunk · 11/08/2018 17:56

I agree. I find him a bit wet....

MissMarplesKnitting · 11/08/2018 17:57

And after the whole Taylor Swift thing....he lost his appeal for me!!!

KittyHawke80 · 11/08/2018 18:00

I agree with that, too. That was a massive misstep. I could do without the Michael Jackson dancing, as well. He’s been good as Loki, though. I well say that.
