Wasnt Bastille Day supposed to be some sort of audition for B9nd, in that case he failed. He was ok, and a good film but definitely didnt have what it takes for Bond

flumpybear · 11/08/2018 07:35

Yes as long as her can pull off the 'well spoken' British accent

nicebitofquiche · 11/08/2018 07:49

No. He's too rough. He's very attractive but definitely not Bond.

Charlieiscool · 11/08/2018 08:31

I think he’s too old. James Norton isn’t sexy enough, good looking yes but not James Bond.
Now David Ajala would be perfect. I’ve seen him on stage in a couple of things and it’s impossible to look at anyone else. Handsome and charismatic.

Nearlyadad · 11/08/2018 08:35

YABU to suggest they should still be making this tired old bollocks

ethelfleda · 11/08/2018 08:48

I would have agreed at one point... until I watched him in Luther Confused that was it good. I don't think he is up to the task. And - it needs to be a good one to follow DC!

MissMarplesKnitting · 11/08/2018 09:03

The studio tend to cast someone who's reasonably well known in the UK, TV type actor but not a current movie star.

I think that discounts Cavill now.

Daniel Craig had done layer cake as lead but little else on the big screen as a lead actor. Lots of smaller roles but nothing that pigeonholed.

Maybe Hiddleston then, but I think he's a bit too pretty.

Money has been onJames Norton for a couple of years. McMafia helped his case....

ImAIdoot · 11/08/2018 09:26

Idris Elba would be a good Bond, I wo uild act usually like to see him project the intelligence, force of will and the substrate of overriding moral implications that you get from the character in the books, as I think he'd do these really well but haven't seen him do do, so far.

My only slight superficial concern is that he isn't very handsome for me and Bond really is, but then Daniel Craig isn't a handsome man either and Casino Royale was probably the most faithful portrayal of book Bond I've seen.

#idrisforbond 😃

A gay man can’t play a straight man?

Didn't you know? Gay actors are a new thing. 🤣

ImAIdoot · 11/08/2018 09:26

Stupid tablet *I would really like to see

ImAIdoot · 11/08/2018 09:27

FFS! *I haven't seen him do so! I have no wish to see him do do

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/08/2018 09:32

Hiddleston proved he could do in The Night Manager, but I think all the publicity around the Taylor Swift debacle rather wrecked his chances.

My vote would be for Aidan Turner: he has the charm but also is capable of the cold brutality needed as well. The play he’s in at the moment in the West End apparently shows a very different side to him! I don’t think James Norton can be cold enough. I’d love to see Tom Burke in the role: I think he would make an amazing Bond.

Maidsrus · 11/08/2018 09:33

I agree with nicebit. He’s too rough.

Love Idris. Yes no reason why not a black bond. But not Idris sorry

He’s too obvious too. They’ll find someone slightly obscure who will hopefully wow us all

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 11/08/2018 16:19

I do agree with the article above. Perhaps what we need is not a black James Bond but rather new really strong lead characters that can be played by non white and non male actors.

MissMarplesKnitting · 11/08/2018 16:30

James Norton not cold enough? I'd have thought the same but happy valley changed my view on that. Chilling.

Shame he's in his 60's and American but Denzel Washington would've been a good bond....

footballmum · 11/08/2018 16:33

My moneys on one of the Peaky Bilnders cast-Cillian Murphy, Aiden Gillen, Tom Hardy or Paul Anderson.

evilharpy · 11/08/2018 16:36

I absolutely love Idris Elba but I just don't see him as Bond. I'm not sure what it is - it's not because I don't think a black Bond would work. Possibly just because in my mind he'll always be Stringer Bell and I struggle to see him being another iconic character.

In my mind Daniel Craig is the best Bond we've had so far.

evilharpy · 11/08/2018 16:42

^The reason I like Craig is because I think he's very close to Ian Fleming's Bond in the books - not looks-wise but personality/attitude. I don't know how to explain really.

RhythmStix · 11/08/2018 16:44

Yes x 10000 to Idris. Such a sex god. I would.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 11/08/2018 16:48

I don't think he is smooth enough, as a pp said with the diction thing he does, I can't buy into him.
The Norton chap would be a better villain imo.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 11/08/2018 16:49

Tom Hardy is way too rough.

MissMarplesKnitting · 11/08/2018 16:54

Could Tom Hardy be polished up a bit?

Bond is supposed to be a naval commander, so top of the tree. He needs to have that suave confidence thing. Daniel Craig has it, but I'm not a fan of him so much looks wise.

It's going to be interesting. I do think they'll go for someone a little bit obscure. It's such a great vehicle to launch a leading man.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 11/08/2018 17:09

I think Tom Hardy has immersed himself in the bad boy role too deeply. Krays, Capone, Bronson are the ones that immediately spring to mind.

Harpingon · 11/08/2018 17:14

Ooooh......yes please : ) even if they have to kill him off after one film, it would be worth it!!

Tink2007 · 11/08/2018 17:14

Personally I find him too wooden as an actor with no screen presence at all.

runs and hides
