To Think Idris Elba would make a great Bond!

Came across a story in the daily mail about him being James Bond and loads of people are saying James Bond should stay white!! Aibu to think he would make a great James Bond!!

I think he might be slightly too old to start playing Bond. And I think he’s too famous anyway.

Richard Srmitage would have been a great Bins but I think he’s too old now as well.

Idris Elba would not make a good James Bond

It's resurfaced again and people are up in arms because you can't have a black JB apparently!!

Age is a if factor now because Bond does so many more stunts and physical action then the first movies.

Only James Norton. No one else. Idris elba (not envy)

Imagine if a book was written about a black man and the film was made with a white man in the role, their would be massive outrage.

No. I think his diction is appalling, and am baffled by the amount of voiceover work he gets. I also cannot cope with those rotten Sky ads, and the fact he says ‘haitch’. No way. I think Clive Owen would be been ace. I’m now hoping it’ll be Jack O’Connell, Sam Claflin or Daniel Kaluuya.

Or possibly Tom Riley.

I actually think, of all the actors around, he'd be the BEST Bond.

He got the necessary trio of characteristics for Bond:

He's handsome and sexy enough that most women want to shag him
He'd look smooth enough in a tux that no one would laugh when he ordered a martini
He's big and tough enough to take on the bad guys and win

Who else has all three of these?

Richard Armitage would have been good but he is too old now and also went down the Botox/nose job route sadly and his fantastic good looks became generic.

For me Aidan Turner - especially his whole look in And Then There Were None. So brooding and clever.

Red in The Shawshank Redemption was written as a white, red-headed Irish man. Perfectly OK that he was played by Morgan Freeman. James Bond is a fictional character & we have a long history of reinventing fictional characters.

Whether a white person could be cast as a character who was written as black - it's not quite the same. We have a history in Western fiction of only writing about black people in reference to their experiences of being black...a complete inequality that needs to change.

When it does, and the stories with black people reference their characters only and not the colour of their skin, then why not?

Being white is not integral to the character of James Bond. Lots of black spies around in 2018.

Aidan Turner is too beautiful for Bond. Bond is handsome and sexy but not beautiful or pretty (so not Tom Hiddlestone).

He would have been perfect for it 5-10 years ago. He could maybe do one movie now but what's the point?
