To Think Idris Elba would make a great Bond!

Came across a story in the daily mail about him being James Bond and loads of people are saying James Bond should stay white!! Aibu to think he would make a great James Bond!!

He can’t be James Bond because Bond is a fictional character who is white. For this reason there can’t be a female Bond. But nothing wrong with there being a black or female secret service agent with licence to kill - 00

I think Idris Elba is an excellent actor who can do far better than Bond. There's plenty of popularity and money in doing Bond, and yes, Elba would it well, but I'd be amazed if serious actors would really want to take on such a one dimensional role. Not to mention how dated and sexist it is.

Bond has a very specific backstory that shapes his character - I've read all the books - so I can understand why some people feel that the character can only be played by a white actor.

I think it would easy for a character like Jason Bourne to be played by a black actor as the backstory is less specific.

No hes not Bond , have you seen Bastille Day where he plays a Bond type role, he is totally wrong for the part.

Yeah. I just read that article that someone posted with some very valid points that I have to agree with.

Also, IB saying that he doesn't want to be "the black Bond" when Connery isn't "the Scottish bond" makes sense too.

I don't rate Idris as an actor tbh, unless he's doing a shouty scene he's always a bit too deadpan and stiff. If you want a good black actor for a bond film, I'd suggest John Boyega as a much better candidate

Nah. The Thor Hemsworth is the next Bond. That haircut must have been for something.

The racists will never allow a black bond.....maybe one day....but not in time for Idris.

I just watched him in The Mountain Between Us and he was very unconvincing. I don’t rate him as an actor full stop.

John Boyega?? Hardly. He’s too young, he’s not a great actor by any stretch and I don’t think they will cast any actor that is closely associated with any other big franchise.

I ADORE Idris Elba, he would be an amazing Bond!

Apparently second to Daniel Craig and deemed too young a decade ago.

However, he's superman so studio might not want to mix franchises?

Idris Elba is currently favourite on Oddschecker, and Aidan Turner has moved up the rankings quite a bit.

I think he might be a bit too famous, they tend to pick actors who aren't big stars yet. I think he'd make a good Bond though, and he's good at accents (I was gobsmacked when I found out he was British when I'd only seen him in The Wire), so I'm sure he could do posh.

I think Tom Hardy's too famous too. (Although he'd be excellent)

James Norton would make a good Bond, but the actor I'd like to see offered it is Cillian Murphy.

Henry Cavill was 22 when ‘Casino Royale’ came out, so I struggle to believe he was ever considered. I agree that he’s getting better, but I still not sure he’s Bond. I quite like DC as an actor, but I think they missed a trick by not casting Clive Owen or James Purefoy, back in the early 2000s.

Idris Elba isn’t a bad actor, I suppose, but the idea that’s he got too much gravitas for Bond is laughable. He appeared in ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’, ffs - he’s hardly Paul Scofield.

Too old, too short, too common and too much of a leap of character to sell him to many countries unfortunately, the producers won’t chance it. Bond needs to be a bit of a posh boy, old school tie, and have women fancy him,men want to be him vibe.

James Norton is the one to bet on imho. He is talented, versatile, handsome and has presence.

Is he? Sorry he looks short to me, but then couldn’t watch much of Luther as I found it disturbing. He is a good actor and I like him, but not for Bond.

James Norton would be perfect. Tom Hardy always looks a bit grubby and unpredictable.😂
