To Think Idris Elba would make a great Bond!

Came across a story in the daily mail about him being James Bond and loads of people are saying James Bond should stay white!! Aibu to think he would make a great James Bond!!

Which is nice in his case... but not Bond behaviour!

I love Idris Elba! Totally platonic I promise. I couldn't understand why people were so "James Bond should be white"... he would be fantastic as Bond.

Luther is brilliant. Not quite he same character but he's got that brilliant mix of intelligent/slightly psychotic.

Idris ( I've seen less wooden wardrodbes) Elba as Bond, no fucking chance.
In fact it's as absurd as casting Wee Jimmy Krankie as the title character in remake of Shaft.

Idris gets the thumbs up from me. Not because of all this "it's time for a black Bond" PC nonsense though. It's because I like him, and believe him to be the best man for the part.

He also wrote M as a white man and Moneypenny as white.

I think he’s too old to embark on the role. And when people say “but Sean Connery was 52 in NSNA and Roger Moore was much older in his later films” they’re really really not disproving my point.

(Though I’m assuming that Idris in his mid fifties will still be a more convincing lady-killer than Sir Roger, bless him.)

In theory I’m also not convinced Idris can play posh, and in theory Bond really needs to be an Etonian. OTOH Timothy Dalton was not convincingly posh and his Welsh accent slipped out adorably in moments of stress and he’s still my favourite Bond because he’s just that sexy, so I think I could overlook the posh thing.

• I love Idris; he’s both a great actor and very good looking.

• But the books are quite clear: Bond was blue/grey eyed, with black hair, a “cruel” mouth, and a scar. And I always hate it when they change things from the books!

• Then again, most of the other Bonds haven’t matched the description that closely either.

So on balance.... YANBU, but if this were the first ever adaptation, I’d be saying, “that’s not how Ian Fleming wrote it,” because I am THAT annoying person who always says the book is better than the film.

Idris is alright but he spunds the same in most things he does ie he ruined jungle book for me speaking like he does on the sky adverts

I don't think this is a question of racists not wanting a black actor. Bond is a white character with his own story. I'd like to see some great black, gay or different characters with their own stories rather than changing the race of an existing one an expecting us all to suspend disbelief

I don't think so. & he's a mediocre actor but gets all the props as..who else is there in terms of black Brit actors anyway on ooyr screens? It's as if he 'has' to be deemed talented even if he's not all that.

He made that shit so factually incorrect Guerilla TV series, then I saw him DJing at a couple of gigs & it just wasnt a very good set as he's not a natural DJ. I didn't see the point.

I don’t think his age is a problem honestly.

He’s in better shape than most Bond actors and when he’s clean shaven and not doing the world-weary Luther thing he can easily pass for 5 years younger. He’d be one of the oldest Bond’s but he looks and acts far younger than, say, Roger Moore ever did.

I don’t really get the obsession with Bond’s age. He’s never been played by anyone youthful and fresh-faced, if anything all the actors who’ve played him looked older than they were. It’s also not like it’s ever a very realistic look at a field agent. Daniel Craig’s the only Bond who actually looked like he might be capable of half the stuff Bond does. If Elba looked a bit past it by the end of his run he’d fit right in.

Connery last played bond at 53 but that wasn't his intention, he'd intended for his last time to be when he was 41 in diamonds are forever.

Roger Moore was 58 in a view to a kill!

Back in the day I think Colin salmon would've been great, or Lennie James. Other than them James mcavoy, Gerard butler still looks good, warren brown (love him!)if you saw him in by any means you know he'd be perfect! PLUS he's a world Thai boxing champ so could handle the physicality I'm sure. Yes! I think Alfred Enoch could do a cracking job of it.
