Or are Audi drivers all morons?

6 week's holiday with DC and doing a lot more driving at all times of day and evening.

It's got to be 90% of the time, when there is a car up my arse, itching to take over, doing a lot more than speed limit, undertaking on motorway (when I'm at limit), not giving way etc it is mostly always an Audi!!

Why is this? Is it just me? Do you know any nice, decent people who drive Audi's? Are they all failed Nicky Lauder's? It's annoying me now. AIBU?

It's true - my old manager confirmed as an Audi driver he felt compelled to drive like a twat - but when he traded it in for another car the feeling went away and he drove more sedately again Grin

Me and DH do a tally of what sort of cars tailgate us aggressively whenever we do long motorway journeys - it's mainly Audis and BMWs, and the odd Merc. There is the odd exception bit it's rare!

A couple of years back we went to have a look around the Audi showroom. On our way into the site we had rude gestures made to us by two Audi drivers who were going the wrong way around the one way route on the site. Once we got into the showroom the salesmen (100 % male staff that we saw) were lounging back on their desks, chatting to themselves and laughing. We were clearly the wrong type, so we left and bought a Volvo instead. We now have a Mercedes and have always found Mercedes drivers to be very polite.
Yesterday driving home down the M5 south i was overtaking in the outside lane at about 80 and making good progress when i was tailgated by an Audi driver flashing his lights like mad. Typical.

eggsandwich · 10/08/2018 15:20

I drive an Audi Q3 and consider myself a safe careful driver but do see atrocious driving at times but they’re not all Audi drivers.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 10/08/2018 15:23

Popo

If you're doing an indicated 70 your true speed will be nearer to 64 -65.

TheQueef · 10/08/2018 15:24

I drive an Audi.

I consider myself a knight of the road I'm such a good driver.

Alfa Romeo
Mercedes
BMW
Jaguar
All seem to be 'superior drivers,' tailgating, speeding, pushing in, not using indicators.
And are mainly men.
Nissan Micra I try to avoid, slow right down, go a different route even!! They really scare me!!!

TheOxymoron · 10/08/2018 15:37

The ones that piss me off are the Chelsea Tractors!
4x4 mums that can’t drive properly and go no further than the local supermarket and school.
Bloody road menaces!

Mia184 · 10/08/2018 15:37

The worst car drivers - in my experience - are Mercedes drivers though Audi drivers aren‘t too far behind.

Rachelweasel · 10/08/2018 15:44

I swap between driving my car (Ford KA) and my OH's (Audi A4) drive them both the same and that's not like a dickhead. I think anyone that drives like a dickhead would drive like that regardless of the car.

BlueBug45 · 10/08/2018 15:50

@Imchangingmyname No MOT required as it's new.

@THEsonofaBITCH I was wondering why everyone keeps sticking exactly to the speed limit around me and giving me loads of room. I was getting paranoid...

@popocatepetals I learnt when I use to speed in my ford focus it depends on what motorway and dual carriageways you drive on. Some never have any police or cameras on them, some have them at certain times or in certain places, and others you need to keep an eye out for them coming on.

MoominMamaBear · 10/08/2018 15:51

I drive an Audi, and I do not drive like a twat, because 99.9% of the time I have the kids in the back.
Also, I had crippling post-natal anxiety which meant I needed CBT before I could get behind the wheel again, so I drive pretty carefully.

gruntley123 · 10/08/2018 15:56

If someone is passing you on an inside lane then you are in the wrong lane.

The highway code is quite clear that it is legal to pass on the inside lane if the traffic in that lane is moving more quickly than the other lane(s).

Your role is not to play policeman and decide that if you're at the speed limit you can sit in whichever lane you fancy.

What is illegal is lane switching through gaps to weave your way ahead.

EstuaryBird · 10/08/2018 16:01

Since I got my Mercedes I've become a more courteous driver. I'm so aware that many people see my car and think I'm a twat that I make a great effort not to prove them right!

It does make me laugh though when a Chav Lad in his Corsa starts revving for a race with me at the lights..........I just let them go, nothing to prove, if he wants to race me do it on a track and he can eat my dust Grin.

CupcakeBabaPoo · 10/08/2018 16:05

I have an Audi, as do 2 of my close friends - we all drive sensibly!

In fact, I drive like Miss Daisy because I used to have a tiny car and can't get used to a bigger one Blush

runningkeenster · 10/08/2018 16:46

4x4 mums that can’t drive properly and go no further than the local supermarket and school

Yes this. I know it's sexist but it's also true.

If someone is passing you on an inside lane then you are in the wrong lane

And I say again, this is rubbish. If I see something in the inside lane that I want to overtake, I will anticipate that need, move out in plenty of time, overtake and move back in. I will not leave it until the last possible moment. That is not good driving, it is unsafe and also causes problems for a driver already in the middle lane who wants to overtake you but can see that you are moving faster than the car in front of you, so has to wait in case you suddenly pull out at the last minute, which generally does happen.

Your middle lane sitting is my anticipating the road conditions and making my manoeuvre in plenty of time. If you want to get past, wait. Or use the 3rd+ lane.

5000KallaxHoles · 10/08/2018 16:46

A friend describes motorway lanes as slow lane > middle lane > BMW lane (but Audis seem to be taking over).

I'd agree with the Nissan Micra comment though - had one, hated it, was so flimsy I used to have to weight it down with a full tank of petrol when it was windy or it would get blown all over the road. Hated the dodgem of doom.

There's some hilarious defensiveness on this thread though.

pinkpantsrock · 10/08/2018 16:48

If their undertaking you, it suggests your in the wrong lane and you would be equally as bad as them

LoveIsNotInTheAir · 10/08/2018 16:50

Audi’s & BMWs are the worst

AnneElliott · 10/08/2018 16:59

We have an A3 but I do agree with you. But BMW drivers are the worst on motorways.

Odd thing with an Audi is that teenage boys in a 1.2 fiesta want to race me - often they wind the window down to challenge me in a 2L Audi Hmm

gruntley123 · 10/08/2018 17:01

And I say again, this is rubbish

Reading your reply it would seem that you are pulling out to overtake then returning to the inside lane. Who would need or able to be able to pass you on the inside in that instance?

mum11970 · 10/08/2018 17:14

I’m still trying to work out how all these Audi drivers are managing to undertake you whilst you are overtaking a car in the same lane that they would have to be in to actually undertake you.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 10/08/2018 17:18

That'll be the clown-proofing, mum11970. It's a special feature...

sagasleathertrousers · 10/08/2018 17:29

I have noticed this and I do think it's disproportionately Audis and BMWs. However I think it's more that if you're a dickhead driver who needs to impress their mates and you can't afford a sports car you're more likely to be able to afford those brands on tick. There are probably lots of decent people driving them too! In fact my lovely neighbours drive a big fuck off Black one (but to be fair I've never seen them on the motorway!)

tomatosoup1 · 10/08/2018 18:33

My OH drives an Audi. He is a rubbish driver. I drive it occasionally and don't think I drive like that.

BeautyBox · 10/08/2018 18:38

I drive a BMW and I'm an exquisite driver. I signal, stick to the speed limit, maintain a decent distance between me and the car in front... so NER
