Or are Audi drivers all morons?

6 week's holiday with DC and doing a lot more driving at all times of day and evening.

It's got to be 90% of the time, when there is a car up my arse, itching to take over, doing a lot more than speed limit, undertaking on motorway (when I'm at limit), not giving way etc it is mostly always an Audi!!

Why is this? Is it just me? Do you know any nice, decent people who drive Audi's? Are they all failed Nicky Lauder's? It's annoying me now. AIBU?

I drive an Audi. At least I’m not so up my own arse that I’d call anyone a moron, given the history of the word!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 10/08/2018 14:16

FourFriedChickens, I drive an Audi but I wouldn't stop for a hitchhiker because I'm a woman and I don't pick up random unknowns in the car because it's not safe to do that. Emergencies excepted but what sort of sense does your premise actually make?

Sirzy · 10/08/2018 14:16

I generally drive a corsa but sometimes drive my partners Audi. I’m the same person whichever wheel im behind

Fooferella · 10/08/2018 14:16

I have noticed this too.

See a car in your rearview mirror that is weaving through traffic and coming up behind you way too fast? Probably an Audi.
Driving in the left lane doing the speed limit and keep having to overtake the same car over and over because they alternately go slow as fuck and then speed up? Probably an Audi.
Getting undertaken before you even have a chance to move into the left lane after passing a lorry? Probably an Audi.
Wink
I think the main gist of this thread are that not all Audi drivers drive like assholes but that the majority of people who drive like assholes, own Audis (or BMWs).

Hookedoncatnip · 10/08/2018 14:18

I haven't met ALL Audi drivers but I do know what you mean. The ones I have noticed have always been driving aggressively. Mercedes and BMW drivers seem to fall into the same category.

Jeffers3 · 10/08/2018 14:21

I got an Audi A1 after driving a VW for years, I instantly turned into an arsehole Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 10/08/2018 14:22

Ah well, WE have the award-winning 'Send In The Clowns' advert because of all of the rest of you fuckwits on the road driving inferior vehicles (or trying to)... WE are clownproof...Wink

What a stupid thread. Grin

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 10/08/2018 14:27

" Emergencies excepted but what sort of sense does your premise actually make? "

just that an Audi driver will never stop for a hitchhiker...you might as well not put your thumb out for them.

It's merely an observation.

In a similar way there is no point in putting your thumb out for anyone driving a Defender (no space, just going to the farm down the road).

Nor a work van (not allowed to for insurance reasons, unless they are possibly self employed).

Nor any other kind of landrover, Discovery or whatever.

It is really just an observation.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 10/08/2018 14:31

*I should add that I only hitch on certain roads in a certain rural area of Wales, and only when I am truly desperate. I certainly wouldn't consider doing it in England.

Gromance02 · 10/08/2018 14:32

Jealousy You can't gage how much money someone has just from the car they drive! Unless it is worth £100,000's. I live in an area with v.expensive housing (£2-5 million) and most houses have very ordinary cars outside them. Because they have nothing to prove.

CrispsAndDip · 10/08/2018 14:33

BMW drivers and Audi drivers like to get up my arse

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 10/08/2018 14:34

It's an idiotic one sorry, FriedChicken because I personally wouldn't stop for a hitchhiker in ANY car that I was in It's dangerous practice. I wouldn't be surprised that many women feel that way.

How about considering that it's the sex of the driver that might be a factor rather than what badge the car has?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 10/08/2018 14:36

If you're a woman, I might consider it then. If you hold up a sign that says 'FriedChicken" I definitely will - man or woman. Deal? Grin

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 10/08/2018 14:38

Grin aww thanks Witch that is so heartwarming….but wont I look a fool holding a sign saying 'chickens'?

tbh it is hard to identify the sex of the driver as they drive past (as fast as they can) but yes, I see your point.

This morning a young woman of 19 picked me up! (Peugout)

whippetwoman · 10/08/2018 14:38

My 78 year old mother drives an Audi and she is a very careful considerate driver. Not a twat as some have suggested upthread.

Sirzy · 10/08/2018 14:38

Anyone who stops for a hitchhiker is pretty daft imo! Asking for trouble

Belindabauer · 10/08/2018 14:38

Dp and I used to joke that it was such a shame for Audi drivers, spending all that money on a car and it not having indicators.

Imtryingveryhard · 10/08/2018 14:40

I've drive an A8 and my husband an A6. We are both very polite and considerate drivers. Always indicate, let people out, say thank you etc. It's the driver who is the dickhead and not the type of car. Unfortunately you will find dickhead s driving every make of car, not just audis and bmw's.

Gromance02 · 10/08/2018 14:40

Dp and I used to joke that it was such a shame for Audi drivers, spending all that money on a car and it not having indicators The thing is though is that this is so true. Why do some drivers of certain cars not use indicators? Are they thick or just too damn important to drive safely?

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 10/08/2018 14:41

its a sadly pervasive attitude Sirzy and very far from the truth.

in the last few years I have picked up a young man desperate to get back to London for his flat, two young German women hitching around for their holiday, and one or two others.

And as I said, people are kind enough to pick me up too. Yesterday it was a middle aged man going paragliding, who hitches back when he lands too far away.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 10/08/2018 14:48

FriedChicken well, it would either be me offering you a lift, or somebody else (non-Audi, undoubtedly) - or bringing you some KFC... so - win/win really. Grin

Joking aside, most of my journeys are on the motorways and the hitchhikers at services are viewed as a 'risk' particularly for lone women. In a rural area, the perception may be different perhaps? I'm one of two female account managers and the guidance from our office is not to take the risk - it's extended to ALL staff.

Then again, our company is German - probably all recklessly driving Audis... so we can't believe a word those speedsters say, can we?

I'd still pick you up though, FriedChicken, I'm chagrined into humanity. Grin

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 10/08/2018 14:50

The majority of Audi drivers I've come across are indeed arseholes unfortunately, shame as I'd rather like an S3 but don't wish to be tarred with that particular brush...

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 10/08/2018 14:53

ha ha ha Witch - about motorways you are right, I would not dream of it. I am in a very rural area. In fact when I started doing it a few years ago, it was just up one road, where half the people driving up it knew us anyway...….
digressing wildly..

Moominfan · 10/08/2018 15:00

Definitely, also bmw drivers goes without saying

popocatepetals · 10/08/2018 15:05

I do a fair amount of motorway driving at fairly quiet times of the day for lorries so I will generally be in the left lane doing 75 70.

Amazingly enough, I am forever being overtaken at high speed by hundreds of cars, the majority of which are Audis, BMW's and other big executive-type saloons (more often than not driven by large executive types). Most of them are way, way faster than my 70mph - frequently 100+.

How come they think they are above the law, and more to the point, how come they can get away with it?
