Or are Audi drivers all morons?

6 week's holiday with DC and doing a lot more driving at all times of day and evening.

It's got to be 90% of the time, when there is a car up my arse, itching to take over, doing a lot more than speed limit, undertaking on motorway (when I'm at limit), not giving way etc it is mostly always an Audi!!

Why is this? Is it just me? Do you know any nice, decent people who drive Audi's? Are they all failed Nicky Lauder's? It's annoying me now. AIBU?

I drive an A2 💖definitly dont drive like an idiot

hmcAsWas · 10/08/2018 12:58

"Or are Audi drivers all morons"

No, quite clearly and self evidently they are not. However you probably are with that sweeping generalisation.

19lottie82 · 10/08/2018 13:01

Just buying an Audi makes you a twat

I’m not thinking it’s Audi drivers who are twats here Hmm

Winterbella · 10/08/2018 13:03

yes along with BMW, Jaguar & Range rover, all think they own the road.

MaryShelley1818 · 10/08/2018 13:04

My DP drives an Audi.
He’s lovely and one of the calmest and most relaxed drivers I know.

5000KallaxHoles · 10/08/2018 13:06

They do tend to attract a certain demographic at times (as do BMWs and Mercs - although I know some lovely owners of all the brands - they all tend toward a certain "heavy footed" driving style).

I was stuck behind an Audi a few weeks back and it was indicating to turn and I sat there thinking that it was a really pretty indicator design (little twinkly strip of LEDs under the brake light or something) and that I'd never noticed it before - because none of the buggers around here ever use their indicators as a general rule. Must be the most pointless job in automotive design really - designing the indicators for Audis and BMWs!

I think worse of those stupidly huge faux 4x4s of all the car brands that go nowhere more challenging or off-road than the local Tesco carpark and are owned by people who can't park the buggers to be fair. That's all car manufacturers' versions of them - not just the German brands.

KlutzyDraconequus · 10/08/2018 13:07

Maybe some people are just jealous because they can't afford an Audi. I drive an A3

Sums up the attitude perfectly.
Why would anyone be jealous of an Audi? Anyone can have a Audi of they want one... Hardly unique or the realm of the super rich.

Now if you tooled around in an XJ220 or Lamborghini Diablo.. maybe people would look and think it was nice.. but a crappy Audi?.. nah... They just think,
"I wonder how they can see when their buttocks are obscuring the view?"

YouBetterWORK · 10/08/2018 13:07

They're not all twats, but yes whenever I see unreasonable driving behaviours I usually see the Audi insignia. I joked to DH the other day is it some sort of prerequisite at the dealership...

Dealer: Just before we start the paperwork Mr.Arse, can I confirm you are an arsehole on the road
Mr.Arse: Why, yes. Yes I am.
Dealer: Congratulations, you can now drive one of our vehicles Wink

Greatorb · 10/08/2018 13:08

So much jealousy in this thread. You get idiot drivers in all makes, though I find women to be the worst.

kaytee87 · 10/08/2018 13:08

Oh don't be ridiculous, it's just a type of car.

THEsonofaBITCH · 10/08/2018 13:09

This thread is incredible narrow minded, everyone knows its not Audi drivers that are notoriously bad - its Audi drivers and BMW drivers! Seriously, its a stereotype for a reason, much more true than not! Grin

MissusGeneHunt · 10/08/2018 13:15

I drive a land rover, its used for off road in as well as carting children and dogs round. I can park, I don't own the road, I always say thank you to others. I also wear sunglasses (possibly the most fucking stupid comment of a PP unless it was ironic sarcasm!).

However, thank God I can see the sweeping generalisation as it is.... Clearly the rest of the women LR drivers are all crap!!!

WomblingWoman · 10/08/2018 13:16

No more than drivers of any other car tbh.

I think it's a bit of an urban myth so that when someone drives badly in one off these cars people are more likely to take note.

Ilovewillow · 10/08/2018 13:17

Oh dear I feel bad now I've had an Audi A3 and a BMW - loved them both and I'm definitely a nice person and not a twat! I drive a Volvo now though so obviously realised the error of my ways!

Imchangingmyname · 10/08/2018 13:28

bluebug don't you need you need to go and collect your Audi from its MOT about now 🤔

The title is tongue in cheek, I do accept that not every single Audi driver on the planet is an awful driver but as I said, I've done more driving than usual over the last 3 weeks and to have noticed so much appalling Audi driving in 3 weeks?! There must be something in it. I'm interested in the psychology of it, is there a certain type of person that those cars attract.

OP posts:
THEsonofaBITCH · 10/08/2018 13:39

fast aggressive cars (what Audi and BMW are known for/advertise) attract fast aggressive drivers. Even the Telegraph had an article that touched on it saying that if you see an Audi or BMW NOT being driven like a jerk, its probably an undercover policeman!

NorthernSpirit · 10/08/2018 13:43

Well i’ve just swapped my Audi TT for a BMW so I wounder what that makes me?

Unfair generalisation on your part. Wound be like all Audi drivers saying mums with people carriers are hogging the road as they have all the time in the world.....

Lordamighty · 10/08/2018 13:59

The psychology of it is confirmation bias. You come across all sorts of bad driving by different drivers in different vehicles but you remember the Audis & then make your inaccurate assumption.

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 10/08/2018 14:00

of course it is confirmation bias - twattish drivers drive a wide variety of cars.

What is the psychological term for when you, say, buy a blue Audi, and suddenly you see blue Audis everywhere?

Secretsquirrel101 · 10/08/2018 14:02

YANBU, they're all absolute dickheads. Including especially me with my A3 SLine 😍
I had a BMW 5 series before that so I must be queen of the dickheads Grin

Purringkittenmama · 10/08/2018 14:04

I can drive children and dog in a Ford Focus.
SIL drives audi (used to drive BMW) and is looking to upgrade to Land Rover- but she is considerably better than me...

ajandjjmum · 10/08/2018 14:04

I do question the intelligence of anyone who decides someone is an idiot purely by the type of car they drive.

There are good and bad drivers in every type of vehicle.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 10/08/2018 14:09

I drive an Audi. I'm not 'nice' but I'm fairly courteous at letting people out, taking account of their sometimes very poor driving and modifying mine to avoid an accident. I imagine that most if not all drivers are imperfect and imprecise with their driving at some point. I know that I am and hopefully the other driver(s) are not having an imperfect day at the same time. So far, that's working fine.

I think your thread is goady and your rationale faulty. Audi is a high performance car as is BMW, Maserati, and many Toyota, VW, Peugeot, etc. models, can match those for speed.

Perhaps OP, if they're 'up your arse ALL the time' then respectfully, you may possibly be in the wrong lane?

LeighaJ · 10/08/2018 14:12

Mercedes-Benz drivers, they are always the ones not paying attention and almost hitting me or doing that bullying edging forward thing when I crossed the road.

I'm from the states so very very very careful about crossing the road yet I still had Merc driving DB's being a Pita.
