Night out with friends- what am I meant to do?

AIBU to think I can't win here?

Invited out for drinks with mutual friends. Said friends live about 45 mins from us by car.

Neither me nor DP are big drinkers ìf not driving well each have 4 or 5 drinks at most. Obviously if driving we'd have 1 if that.

Public transport would take at least 2 hours each way and we'd have to leave at 10-10.30 to get last trains back. A taxi would be at least £50 each way which we can't afford.

I offered to drive. However my car is old and has no aircon. So DP clearly thinks it's an empty offer and say 'obviously I will have to drive then'. DPs car has aircon. I'm not insured to drive it though.

I'm not sure what other solution I can give! There's nowhere to stay local to friends and DP wouldn't want to stay over anyway.

What else would you suggest if you were me?

Tell him to stop being such a fucking high maintenance princess. Hth.

ShawshanksRedemption · 04/08/2018 17:41

This is more than about aircon and whose car to drive IMHO @Byitin, and the answer to your Q is No, you can't win. Thing is, are you OK with that?

tinytemper66 · 04/08/2018 17:42

Your husband sounds like he is looking for any excuse not to go. So leave him to his cool house and go to the meetup your self and tell the friends why you are on your own!

gamerchick · 04/08/2018 17:43

Your bloke is a passive aggressive whinge bag OP. This is his problem to solve as he's the only one with one.

Andylion · 04/08/2018 17:52

I guess I'm the only one who thinks that 4 or 5 drinks is a lot. Blush

FrayedHem · 04/08/2018 17:53

Are you going to meet your friends OP? Has DP decided whether to slum it in the sweatbox or glum it in the fully air of reluctance conditioned wagon?

Maybe I am. Perhaps I’m living in the Twilight Zone. 🎃👹

Roussette · 04/08/2018 17:56

Gosh. Is 4-5 drinks a lot?! I don't drink during the week but like a few at the weekend and for instance tonight, out with friends, and having more than that no doubt!

It's been hot here today but we're driving over in an hour and doubt will even put aircon on... it cools down after 7pm surely...

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 04/08/2018 17:56

I think I've just lost the will to live

bullyingadvice2017 · 04/08/2018 17:58

Sounds like he's just being a dick! Is he always like this?

Theresnodisneyending · 04/08/2018 17:58

"Neither me nor DP are big drinkers ìf not driving well each have 4 or 5 drinks at most"

Spread out over the course of a day that's not much. In a few hours, that's a lot, surely? I'd be passed out on that, and I like a drink.

HandsFaceTeeth · 04/08/2018 18:00

AIBU to think your aircon comments sound a tad precious? I have NEVER had a car with aircon. Tell him not to be so fucking spoilt. And by the way, I think you’re a bit daft for indulging him

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 04/08/2018 18:18

Your dp is a total dickhead. What's he talking about non offer, the offer of a lift is there.
He's talking such shit about air con it will be night time open the windows.

Really you need to stop entering into these things with him you're just ensuring he keeps on doing it. Shut this whole conversation down now.

MarthasGinYard · 04/08/2018 18:35

So party people

You off out in the wheeled furnace....

Ariela · 04/08/2018 18:43

Can you add his car to your policy for you to drive it?

MarthasGinYard · 04/08/2018 18:44
Grin
MarthasGinYard · 04/08/2018 18:44

Can you cancel the cheque ....

Then add on the policy

Treacletoots · 04/08/2018 19:07

Good god. You need to get a fan,you know the sort you hold over his head and a bunch of grapes to feed him with, one by one.

Your DP needs to get a serious grip. Tell him to open the window and stick his head out of the window if it's such a problem for him to be in your car. I would gladly accept your offer if I were him.

This post is testament to the complete fucking idiots that are growing up (and I use that term very loosely here) in our society today. Your great grandfather was probably fighting in 90 degrees with 40 kg of clobber strapped to his back and you can't drive half an hour without aircon. Fucking diddums.

I couldn't agree more. Shame you can't stick your DB in WW1 trenches for a while - then see if he gives a damn if your car has air con or not.

And how

MarthasGinYard · 04/08/2018 19:47

Funny no a/c in the 70/80's and somehow we survived Shock

Nobody went 30 mph in the 70s though. The OP has no through draft at that speed. Come on!

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/08/2018 19:55

I do remember the agony of my bare legs sticking to the scorching hot vinyl seats in the 70s though. Don't want to repeat that.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 04/08/2018 19:56

open all the windows

it's not difficult

Eliza9917 · 04/08/2018 19:58

Tell him to buy you a newer car with Aircon in it.
