Night out with friends- what am I meant to do?

AIBU to think I can't win here?

Invited out for drinks with mutual friends. Said friends live about 45 mins from us by car.

Neither me nor DP are big drinkers ìf not driving well each have 4 or 5 drinks at most. Obviously if driving we'd have 1 if that.

Public transport would take at least 2 hours each way and we'd have to leave at 10-10.30 to get last trains back. A taxi would be at least £50 each way which we can't afford.

I offered to drive. However my car is old and has no aircon. So DP clearly thinks it's an empty offer and say 'obviously I will have to drive then'. DPs car has aircon. I'm not insured to drive it though.

I'm not sure what other solution I can give! There's nowhere to stay local to friends and DP wouldn't want to stay over anyway.

What else would you suggest if you were me?

Buy him one of those fans you plug into the lighter and a tiny violin.

Celebelly · 04/08/2018 15:32

This is bizarre.

Byitin · 04/08/2018 15:34

Taxis are so expensive we really couldn't afford it, a taxi and public transport would be over £80.

My car is so basic it doesn't even have a cigarette lighter Grin

So he chooses between a/c and drinking. It's not Sophie's bloody Choice.

AStatelyPleasureDome · 04/08/2018 15:34

Why can't DP drive or am I missing something ?

Dermymc · 04/08/2018 15:34

Fucking hell this is strange.

Just open the windows, when you drive it makes a breeze. Are people really this thick? (your dp is obviously)

LML83 · 04/08/2018 15:35

He is disappointed he will have to drive. But this is his choice he would rather drive than go in your car no aircon.

Don't feel guilty about it. You can drive for the next one. Enjoy yourself.

LML83 · 04/08/2018 15:35

@mrsterrypratchet love that response 😂😂

flowery · 04/08/2018 15:36

”DPs solution is to drive but I did get a definate air of reluctance about it.”

Don’t understand. If that’s his preferred option why is he reluctant about it? Confused

Shoxfordian · 04/08/2018 15:36

Your dh sounds very passive aggressive. Is he usually like this about such small decisions? Drive or don't drive but he sounds like an arse.

EmmaGellerGreen · 04/08/2018 15:37

Seriously it was not many years ago that no cars had air con and people managed to drive hundreds of miles. He is being ridiculously pathetic.

JayZed · 04/08/2018 15:37

You mean you can't go by horse and carriage?!

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 04/08/2018 15:38

**

This is really to do with drinking isn't it? Your DP wants to have a drink doesn't he?

Byitin · 04/08/2018 15:39

The driver can't drink. DP would like a drink but doesn't want to go in my car.

Although I havent asked I think the inference is that I only offer to drive when I know we can't travel in my car (we're going on a long journey- my car is uncomfortable, or we're transporting a big item - my car is half the size of DPs, or it's a really hot and sticky day like today) so DP feels it's an empty offer on my part.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 04/08/2018 15:40

Me and my DP both like a drink.

If we are going out where only one of us can drink then we take turns to drive. We've been doing this since before air-con was invented.

Mayra1367 · 04/08/2018 15:40

🙈 really!

pictish · 04/08/2018 15:40

Your dp sounds like a pain in the arse.

sonjadog · 04/08/2018 15:41

I think you should just stay at home. Never mind the car journey, you'll have to get to the car from your front door on the way out and from the car to your friend´s house. That's just not possible in 31 degrees and you can´t aircondition the whole world.

Frogscotch7 · 04/08/2018 15:41

I’ve just cancelled my night out tonight, reading this thread stressed me out. Go yourself and leave dp at home.

Smellbellina · 04/08/2018 15:42

That he stops being a knob

TwitterQueen1 · 04/08/2018 15:43

Don't go, please, just don't go. For such an incredibly tiny non-life-changing decision the thought processes on this thread are driving me insane. Shock

I don't care and it really, really doesn't matter.

SubtitlesOn · 04/08/2018 15:43

First post by new poster so I will give them a Biscuit

MotsDHeureGoussesRames · 04/08/2018 15:43

This is possibly the biggest non-problem I've ever read on here. Hmm

category12 · 04/08/2018 15:43

Just go in your car and leave him behind. Then he can see his inference is wrong. What a snowflake.

ThePinkOcelot · 04/08/2018 15:44

I digging deep, but I’m failing to see the problem tbh.
