I don’t think it’s naive but my solution would be too Victorian for today’s sensibilities.

I think if it weren't hard, it wouldn't happen.

Why exactly do you think drugs get in because the prisons can't be bothered to make any effort?

I live near a high security jail and I remember a scam being busted where people would stuff dead birds full of drugs and catapult them over the wall. Prisoners would then insist on “giving the bird a proper burial” and they retrieved the drugs.

Took them a while to catch on.

I'd be interested in what your solution would be, it is a hard situation to resolve.

A Victorian solution is probably necessary.

Cutting down/out personal possessions in which to hide contraband.
Cutting out unsupervised opportunities to take them.

Females crotch it so basically shove it up their Fanjo and retreive it at a visit. In the prison I work at a mother has French kissed her own son to pass on drugs. They have also been found in a babies nappy for the father to get out. It is almost impossible to stop people trying to get drugs in.

I don't know if it's the same for every prison but from my experience (work related ) there is a sense that a bit of a blind eye is turned to an extent to 'keep the peace'.

That’s the problem OP, there are too many indulgences in prisons as a result of legal action taken by inmates who feel hard done by. Take the Barlinnie slopping out lawsuits for example.

Ffs DP did a survey for a job in Barlinnie to put more sockets in each “room” so that prisoners could have games consoles!

They could string some netting (like the stuff on a fruit cage) across teh open areas so drones cant drop stuff into the prison.
Sniffer dogs in the prison on a regular basis.
Even if it's in your fanjo how do you get it to the prisoner. Stop physical contact then they can't pass it over.
I agree it doesn't really seem like rocket science.
on the radio the other day a woman was telling how her imprisioned partner begged her to bring in drugs otherwise she and her family were at grave risk. If you stopped it getting in you would protect women like her.

It already is Victorian in prison. My local one has people banged up for up to 23 hours a day shitting in the toilet in front of their cellmate. No education or work for most of them.

Violence rife, mentally ill and neurodevelopmentally challenged prisoners everywhere. Dreadful food. Pissing in the sink in the night because you don't want to put your feet on the floor because of all the cockroaches.

Virtually no healthcare whatsoever.

As others have said, it's extremely hard to keep drugs out of prisons. As well as all the things mentioned so far, spice gets in soaked in letters. At least one prison is now photocopying letters to give to prisoners and testing the originals for drugs.

It depends what’s is most important. But if they are human beings with drug addictions like so many are, it shouldn’t be made so easy.
Absolutely agree with hatgirl - the fear of non-drugged prisoners is probably a worse prospect for the governors.

No they’re not, but the general opinion of treating people in prison well because they’re human beings often neglects to mention the people who are there for having committed atrocities.

High security prisons which mollycoddle their inmates are an abomination.
