it Shocks me every time I hear about how ride it is with known dealers inside.
Surely, if there was a proper will, it could easily be all but eradicated?

Rapists, murderers and paedophiles

That is a tiny proportion of the prison population.

YeTalkShiteHen · 31/07/2018 19:55

That is a tiny proportion of the prison population

Yes I know! I was merely pointing out that not all prisoners are harmless!

GeorgeIII · 31/07/2018 19:56

Yes because everyone in prison is a rapist, murderer or pedophile

I understand they are all sex offenders in the one near here.

BifsWif · 31/07/2018 19:56

Who’s funding the sniffer dogs, and who’s trained to handle them?

I understand that some people won’t be happy until all prisoners are starved to death and left to rot in a concrete cell for 24 hours a day, but if you think prisons are nice places full of luxurious items then you are sadly mistaken.

Chosenone · 31/07/2018 19:59

I do worry that it's probably easier to have the Prisoners loaded up on Spice/Smack or whatever. A relative of mine has just retired from being a Prison Officer. He was a hard man. From a criminal family trying to relate with the Prisoners. It broke him! The violence, the dirty protests and general corruption.
UK Prisons are not working. Why should they be able to anathesis themselves into oblivion? Choosing to commit a violent crime/sexual crime/ Murder etc should erase you of all rights. It just should.

SpecialBond · 31/07/2018 19:59

You really have no clue. Governors would give their right bollock to have drug free prisoners.

Ever heard of spice? The most dangerous drugs I've ever seen in my entire career. We don't even know what these drugs are, they're changing all the time. 'Spice' is a brand name for substances we don't understand and can't identify.

It's causing violence, enormous rates of mental illness and self-mutilation. As in - removing body parts mutilation.

ParkheadParadise · 31/07/2018 20:00

When the bastard who took my dd's life was on remand, he had a facebook page with pictures of dd. He also posted about what he could get inside. Staff were known to turn a blind eye where drugs are concerned.

YeTalkShiteHen · 31/07/2018 20:01

Spice is the new high that’s causing all kinds of problems according to a documentary I saw recently, really scary stuff.

“subby” (its a heroin substitute) seems to be the drug of choice in prisons at the moment.

YeTalkShiteHen · 31/07/2018 20:01

@ParkheadParadise Flowers

Stoveding · 31/07/2018 20:03

Of course they turn a blind eye.

I absolutely don’t think prisons should be horrible and violent and cock roach ridden/ flea infested etc.

But they should be more Spartan until control over what is in there is reached.

Eg Smoking could be banned that would sort out a lot of spice/cannabis.

Do you visit a lot of prisons, OP?

ilovesooty · 31/07/2018 20:07

Firenight my thought exactly.

SpecialBond · 31/07/2018 20:08

Smoking is banned.

Why start a thread about something you have no knowledge of at all?

HairyToity · 31/07/2018 20:08

They can't detect spice

Stoveding · 31/07/2018 20:08

Not visit but I do know a bit about how they are run. Currently it’s all set up to fail.

GinnyWreckin · 31/07/2018 20:09

What planet are you on @stoveding that people who are locked up in close confines with other addicts are forced to go cold turkey?

Are you for real?

Niave was a nice way of putting it.
I’m stunned at how ignorant you sound.

Do you have any idea why people are in prison? Really?
How many of the people in prison have undiagnosed mental likeness?
And how many of them were high scorers in Adverse Childhood Experience tests?

Do you even know why people take drugs?

You know, google is your friend.

Stoveding · 31/07/2018 20:10

First article I found on googling smoking in jail

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/society/2017/dec/19/jails-exempt-smoking-ban-uk-supreme-court-rules

Maybe it should be like America where visitors talk to inmates from behind a screen on a phone.

You'd only have to very thoroughly strip search every officer and new inmate each time they entered a prison, monitor the airspace for drones, x-ray every package that enters every prison and the problem will be sorted.

Stoveding · 31/07/2018 20:12

I don’t think prison is the right place for lots of people on short sentence who have addiction/ mental health issues.
Somewhere that can help them deal with those issues away from temptation/coercion to keep using is needed
Although I also know that NHS mental health wards are rife with illegal drugs also. (That seems a harder but to crack)

@YeTalkShiteHen

I love your username 😂😂😂

BifsWif · 31/07/2018 20:13

Honestly, do you know what people on spice do?!

I’ve seen people try to gouge out their own eyes, stick sharp implements into their ears and nose because they’re convinced something is crawling in there. Spice/mamba/fuck knows what doesn’t create a nice, calm prison environment.

You haven’t got a clue.

Stoveding · 31/07/2018 20:15

No, but spice is relatively new and the system is in place now that allows drugs to seep through.
BarbaraofSeville, some good suggestions . It’s not beyond the wit of man.
