To wear this dress to a wedding??

I've got a wedding next month, I've bought this dress but my sil says it's so much and I'll look a bit twatty?

If you saw me wearing this at a wedding what you think it was terrible? Or is it fine to wear for a wedding?

Toss a white shawl over it and it will be perfect for 3pm.

PolkaHots · 29/07/2018 00:42

The last navy one is the best of those you’ve posted.

The cream Bardot with the flowers you posted is a nice style, but the colour is wrong. There are two colours that are wrong for a wedding, black (but you know that now) and anything even approaching white. Even if it’s got flowers on, or it isn’t actually white, just a pale pastel. ANYTHING approaching whiteish is a NO.

And for most people anything sexy/bodycon is a bit of a no too, though if the rest of your friends are all going for that look it will probably be fine.

Definitely consider posting on th style and beauty section, they’ll love finding you a dress.

The main thing though is to enjoy yourself, regardless of what you’re wearing.

I liked the ones you posted from AXParis.
I bought a dress from there a little while back. It was an evening dress but cheap and it looked stunning. I got so many compliments from it (male and female). The dresses you have posted one is a bit more weddingy than the other. So it really depends whether you want to blend in (but still look lovely) or stand out a bit.

The floral one looks better from the back then the front, you might unintentionally "Pippa" the bride.

I completely understand wanting to look nice and it helping your confidence.

Unless it is a black tie event then I'd stick to lighter colours except anything resembling white ofc. Grin

I just love that glam figure hugging dress.if you have bought it and love it, just wear it. It does not matter what others say,or think.

BedtimeTea · 29/07/2018 01:14

@Seriousquestion09 I love that dress you posted.

DonttouchthatLarry · 29/07/2018 01:18

My friend wore this to a wedding the other week and it looked lovely

I think it'd look a bit silly unless it's a very posh do. Don't like the dress either.

BedtimeTea · 29/07/2018 03:52

Love this one you posted op. www.axparis.com/products/Cream-Floral-Notch-Front-Midi-Dress.html

The AX dress is perfectly suitable.

I'm from Liverpool, still live here. We dress up for Weddings, well for anything.

The Debanhams Blue and Pink that you linked to are fine. If you can check the colours that the Bridesmaids are wearing.

Try them, if you feel good in them, wear one.

Bodycon/Scuba are acceptable for Weddings. Especially if you are going day-to-night. If it was a Christening then you would have to go floaty.

If you like dressing up, then don't dress down because other Women aren't.

AntipodeanOpalEye · 29/07/2018 07:42

Puts me in mind of Alexis Colby in Dynasty circa 1980's

bananamonkey · 29/07/2018 08:01

She’s 20 and it’s in Liverpool ffs, I think off the shoulder and body con is fine as long as it’s not short. I’m dying at all the people wanting to dress you more middle-aged. There have been some nice choices posted though, good luck with finding a dress OP!

Roystonv · 29/07/2018 08:02

Think the thing that is the Liverpool dressing up needs to be taken into account as birds says so really unless you are from there the op's choices will look a bit over the top to the rest of us that do a more floaty floral garden party type look. Op think your idea of running your ideas past other guests/family is a good one and they can point you in the right direction but if you are meeting family members for the first time maybe take the more modest option. Good luck and enjoy the day.Smile

KittyHawke80 · 29/07/2018 08:16

Oh God - I feel certain I’m going to regret asking this, but: why does her coming from Liverpool mean she has to dress either as Stephanie Beacham, or in something from the Trashy Lingerie ‘Marie Antoinette’ collection?

Branleuse · 29/07/2018 08:18

No i wouldnt. Thats an evening dress/ballgown. Youd look like you were trying to upstage the bride

Branleuse · 29/07/2018 08:24

I like the 2nd fishtail one tbh. I think its nice

GrannyMac2018 · 29/07/2018 08:30

OP you have a great figure in your pics. You’re young and body con Bardot is in fashion so I’m pretty sure at the wedding you’re attending it will be appropriate. The AC Paris dresses you were posted looked great to me would look lovely on you and are definitely ‘going slim fashion conscious’ wedding person attire.
You’re not 50 for a long time you have no belly and a lovely shape - don’t listen to posters trying to dress you down or make you grumpy before you’re time. Wedding attire for young guests is different and I think you’re pretty on point for someone who says they’ve not been to one. You’ll look lovely with your partner

When you are 20 then you can wear anything with confidence
I went

TacoLover · 29/07/2018 08:37

You have a DH at 20Shock

AlonsosLeftPinky · 29/07/2018 08:37

I'm also a scouser and wouldn't be seen dead in anything so trashy.

The silkfred one someone linked to is perfect.

insancerre · 29/07/2018 08:41

Sorry, stupid phone
I went shopping with dd for a graduation outfit
She picked this from primark and looked gorgeous
Does it have to be a dress?

Op ypu have a gorgeous figure. The blue floral dress doesnt do it justice. I would definitely check asos out. They have lots of dresses suitable for your age range and definitely your figure. Bit better quality than quiz,PLt etc and good price range.
