To feel terrified after reading the prepping for Brexit threads?

LittleNapRefuser · 28/07/2018 20:26

I have genuinely cried real tears of fear after reading the threads on prepping for Brexit today. I have a toddler and right now I am terrified of what is to come and their future after all this.

I don't really have anyone to talk to about this in 'real life' because most people I know aren't reading the news or don't seem to care.

Should I be terrified? Should I be scared for my baby's future? Can anyone reassure me or offer me an alternative perspective on all this. I don't want to to put my head in the sand but I feel really afraid.

Mirialis - I'm sure Dr. Oertker is in Leyland Grin

mrsglowglow · 28/07/2018 23:22

I'm ok for prosecco thankfully. There was a rumour a while back that a shortage was coming so filled the garage with a few crates. Grin

It is really scary. But there is one thing you can do, no matter how small, and that is to join in the campaign for a second vote www.peoples-vote.uk/ If enough of us do that, maybe the politicians will see sense and try to find us a way out of it.

For those comparing it to the blitz - we didn’t vote for the blitz did we? The British public got us in to this mess, it’s up to us the British public to get us out of it.

Glaciferous · 28/07/2018 23:26

people talking with a perceived superior knowledge because they have recently discovered the term JIT

At least those people are attempting to actually find out what the facts are and how those facts might affect what happens.

GirlsBlouse17 · 28/07/2018 23:28

Self fulfilling prophecy

AllIHaveToDo · 28/07/2018 23:30

Bit presumptuous to say people have superior knowledge having just learned about JIT....

Justanotherlurker · 28/07/2018 23:30

It's vegetables and salads crops that will be in short supply.

Vegetable and Salad seeds added to Brexit Survical Box

Ignores the fact that a significant majority comes from kenya...

AllIHaveToDo · 28/07/2018 23:30

Girlsblouse - perhaps you'd care to enlighten the naysayers as to what the positives will be.

I'll wait...

And there we have it again. Manipulate people to take the action you want by making them fearful.

Come on, unless you were born yesterday you will have lived through many uncertain situations - even global ones. My first one would probably the Falklands war. What a lot a life you can miss out on by living in fear.

AlllHaveToDo don’t be holding your breath

rainbowsandsmiles · 28/07/2018 23:33

Why do people type with extra exclamation marks when putting their "it's scary" messages out there? Is it to add an extra layer of urgency and make their point sound scarier?
We've had take care! and other gems. Maybe we should save some exclamation marks too! Don't want them running out! How will anyone know how urgent it is if there's none left!

mirialis · 28/07/2018 23:33

Self fulfilling prophecy

If the majority of people voting Brexit were big enough then their optimism and positivity should have carried us through any such problems.

But it wasn't. It was a tiny majority and even on the day of victory Daniel Hannan and co were back-pedalling on their promises.

Why has it been so hard for the government, with the backing of the majority of people, to convince the country that this is a brilliant idea?

Turns out, it's because it's a shit idea and now Leave voters are desperately trying to shift the blame.

No, it won't wash.

Justanotherlurker · 28/07/2018 23:34

At least those people are attempting to actually find out what the facts are and how those facts might affect what happens.

Yeah and the saying that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing is aptly demonstrated on these brexit/prep threads.

rainbowsandsmiles · 28/07/2018 23:34

Exactly,Flossie. They're so far gone though there's just no seeing it.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 28/07/2018 23:34

rainbow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s a fucking emergency!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Avaz · 28/07/2018 23:36

I’m an ardent remainer and can’t help but feel the rest of us have to suffer hardship for years to come because of those who voted leave fell for the “take back control “bullshit like sheep to the slaughter!!

yolofish · 28/07/2018 23:37

Look people, stay calm - it's all going to be fine, because we can have our blue passports back. Bugger those stupid JIT supply chains and those rather inconvenient trade deals, blue passports, unicorns, rainbows and sunny uplands aplenty will be with us next March.

rainbowsandsmiles · 28/07/2018 23:38

Genuinely worried!! If they all run out maybe we'll have to resort to caps to get THE SERIOUSNESS OF IT ALL across!!

hairyscarey · 28/07/2018 23:38

Oh FFS this must be a wind up.

I voted leave and I wish they'd just get on with it

AllIHaveToDo · 28/07/2018 23:39

Still can't wrap my head around what 'take back control' actually means. The ordinary person has never really had control. Sure they can vote but they still have to live with parliamentary decisions. And we all know the government can overturn decisions as they see fit. It's bullshit.

EmilyBishopmyconfession · 28/07/2018 23:39

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE SALAD?

Which can, as it happens, be grown in the UK. Not just industrially- but in people's own gardens, allotments, plant pots and window boxes.

Crazy days.

AllIHaveToDo · 28/07/2018 23:40

@hairyscarey I do believe they are trying but they're having difficulty defining what 'it' is

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 28/07/2018 23:41

hairy I hope you are thoroughly ashamed

AllIHaveToDo · 28/07/2018 23:43

Hairy's hoping to take back control don't ya know?

Disquieted1 · 28/07/2018 23:43

I don't know shit about the EU.
Is it true that the UK, an island nation, shares a common fishing policy with land-locked Austria?

If so, I hope we have a reciprocal Sound of Music policy. It can't all be one way.
