To be upset that the NHS 'pay raise' has cost me a grand?!

Just this.

My pay is £86 down this month. That's £1,032 a year. What a lovely reward for a decade of service.

I'm glad I voted no. Sorry NHS staff hate to strike.

We haven’t had our pay rise this month as finance couldn’t sort it out in time.

It’s utterly fucking shit. They sent us an email telling us that “we were confused what we had voted for” Hmm

RubiksQueen · 26/07/2018 17:10

It is all utterly disgraceful. I'm bank only and there's no pay rise for us anyway. I voted no because I knew it would be a shower of shite and would in real terms make people worse off. All these people saying it would be 'better than nothing'.

It's shit.

Dreamingofkfc · 26/07/2018 17:11

The RCM have just issued a statement and it says that anyone worse off it will be a payroll mistake and there's contact details in the statement. I rejected the pay deal, but still very frustrated that it appears to be so good, yet actually most people I know have had the smallest amount. I haven't checked my payslip yet, but I haven't received more than I do some months depending on what enhancements I get. Grrrrr

Bramble71 · 26/07/2018 17:14

This is appalling and certainly wasn't mentioned as a possibility when the payrise was heralded by our bloody government! YANBU to be upset. I would be, too.

Babyroobs · 26/07/2018 17:19

My band 5 bank pay seems lower this month too.

Bluelady · 26/07/2018 17:19

Meanwhile on another thread there's a consultant's wife maintaining NHS pensions are too generous ...

SealSong · 26/07/2018 17:21

BBC reporting that some NHS workers pay has gone up by pennies, here

This is such a pile of shite.

rupertpenryswife · 26/07/2018 17:21

We have been told by payroll and HR that if you are not due an increment payrise then it will just be 1%. Nothing surprises me with this government.

cubscout · 26/07/2018 17:22

The reason some of us (me included) will be worse off is that we will be tipped into the next NI or Income tax bracket or increased pension contributions. It's shit.

NicoAndTheNiners · 26/07/2018 17:23

My work fb group is full of people saying they’re worse off.

And worrying that next month when the “arrears” is paid they’ll be worse off by £hundreds as they’ll have a big lump sum taken off them!

I’m staggered the government think they can get away with this what the fuck is going on?

AgathaMystery · 26/07/2018 17:23

Dreaming I know Jon Skewes at RCM is adamant it's all payroll errors.

It's not.

We are being pushed up bands in NI and student loan patents. It's simple maths.

Feeling desperately sorry for the consultants wife who thinks the pensions are too generous. Maybe doctors are. I wouldn't know.

Does anyone else have visions of the Tory cabinet sitting around laughing and rubbing their hands like Mr Burns off the Simpsons?

Jb291 · 26/07/2018 17:24

My "pay rise" is worth a measly £10 per month after the taxman has taken tax and NI and nhs pensions has increased as well.

RaininSummer · 26/07/2018 17:25

Although a bit jealous of your original pay structure with the increments, that is a shitty stunt to pull. Nobody should end up worse off after a supposed pay rise.

Glowerglass · 26/07/2018 17:25

That seems odd. Surely you get the % increase on you current spine point then move to the next increment on your incremental date.?

UglyCathKidstonBag · 26/07/2018 17:25

We had a band 5 nurse crying on our ward last night. She was down by about £80 iirc, and it looked likely to impact her childcare.

I’m not subject to AfC so I don’t know the details of the increments but it was the hot topic at work last night.

Babyroobs · 26/07/2018 17:27

Bluelady - Some Nhs staff on final salary pensions are not doing badly - a colleague of mine is married to a nurse who has just retired at 55 and getting 40k a year pension for life. I didn't quite believe what she was saying at first .

rupertpenryswife · 26/07/2018 17:28

Our HR after numerous complaints from staff has confirmed their are no errors in this months pay its the deal as promised.

LarryFreakinStylinson · 26/07/2018 17:29

Its shit. And the general public will have no sympathy because it’s been spun as payrise of the frigging century and for NHS workers to point out otherwise is because we’re grasping or moneygrabbing. We’ve been absolutely shafted. The fact that a major Union has come out to say they’re sorry for misleading us (albeit unintentionally) is huge. But it doesn’t matter. Because we’re stuck.

NurseButtercup · 26/07/2018 17:32

I'm still a student nurse so wasn't eligible to vote, but I'm very surprised by the low turnout to vote on pay? And the general level of apathy.

We could strike - in a more creative way, that could overcome the duty of care anxiety. Instead of a mass walk-out downtools a minute at a time and increase incrementally. I understand this is what the nurses did in one of the Nordic countries.

I'm concerned about the nursing recruitment "succession plan". I'm supposed to learn from nurses more senior and experienced than me. This pay deal is effectively pushing them out of the door. I'm really concerned about my lack of experience and skill set and the potential safety implications.

On this basis I would happily stand on the picket line.

Sciurus83 · 26/07/2018 17:32

Wider civil service here, unlike NHS we don't get any pay progression at all. I have six years experience and never had more than 1%. I'm sorry it seems like they've dragged you down to our level. It's really crap.

notanurse2017 · 26/07/2018 17:33

I'm ashamed that people are in this position. I work in the NHS (AfC but not frontline staff) and I read a lot about the changes when they were being proposed. I knew that the payrise would be tiny for some of us but not that people would actually be worse off.

jasjas1973 · 26/07/2018 17:33

You ve a shit union if they accept an employers word on a pay rise in "good faith" he/she should resign not an apology .

My mum was a nurse all her life, she said the RCN was as useful as a chocolate fire guard, full of wind or words to that effect.

Lougle · 26/07/2018 17:34

We don't even get paid until next week. We get paid the day before the last working day of the month in our Trust. How have you all been paid so early? Do you get paid the day before the last Friday in the month?

NicoAndTheNiners · 26/07/2018 17:34

I’m leaving the rcm over this. Was close to it anyway but this is the final straw.
