To think it's not hot at all

I'm here in a blanket in the south west in a 3 story Edwardian and it's cloudy.

I've felt other heatwaves but this one doesn't even register tbh

Indoor thermometer saying 28 in my kitchen right now, hotter upstairs. 😬 Bring on some rain.

Claireshh · 26/07/2018 23:31

Well said.

It was 32.5 here today. I have windows open and a fan on and it’s still stiflingly hot.

Want2bSupermum · 26/07/2018 23:31

Can you put the fan right by the open window. We have these fabulous rectangular window fans which draw in air from outside and help cool the room. If you can, have a ceiling fan installed. They are amazing at helping heat and cool a room efficiently. All our rooms have at least one ceiling fan and I had them installed in my fathers home last year.

LavendarGreen · 26/07/2018 23:32

@myusernameismud

My bedroom is currently 25 degrees with the air con on.

@Piggywaspushed

Your aircon must be good ! Mines been on since 2pm and it's 27...

I don't get any of this. Surely you would set the aircon for the temperature you want it at (eg, 16-17 C.) Confused

Why are your aircon units set at 25-27 C?!

SadieHH · 26/07/2018 23:33

People just can't accept that other people are hotter than them, can they? Or that people tolerate heat differently, or that Place A isn't the same temp as you in your front room in Place B. What is it about hot weather that turns people into twats?

Two fans here, children wide awake and dripping with sweat, I'm a greasy puddle. But so and so in a totally different part of the country isn't hot, so that's alright then. Hmm

Passmethecrisps · 26/07/2018 23:35

I think those of us with air con have bought portable ones which simply don’t work well. Ours actually makes the room warmer.

Our fans are also right next to the open windows.

Many of our homes are simply not built for this. It is absolutely fine to say “I love this weather”.
To deny it is hot or to claim that this is normal is not really cricket

Danglingmod · 26/07/2018 23:38

But it's 29° outside now - at almost midnight. What difference would having the windows open make?

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/07/2018 23:43

OK, so not official, recorded in the shade at a weather station, and road temperature, not ambient temperature, but this doesn't really support the South West ice age theory...

Want2bSupermum · 26/07/2018 23:44

Really, in London it's 29C outside? My dad is in W14. He said the thermometer was showing it was 18C outside.

Seriously, my dad isn't in the best health. My phone is saying it's 24C in 'London'. I'm all worried now.

Passmethecrisps · 26/07/2018 23:52

It can’t be 18 wanttobe. I am in central Scotland in a pretty rural area and it is 20/21 outside now.

I am sure your dad is simply downplaying it as many on here are and doesn’t see what the fuss is about. Please don’t worry Flowers

GabsAlot · 27/07/2018 00:00

its not 18 degrees your dad themometor is broken my dh is in central london right now working its 27 degrees

GabsAlot · 27/07/2018 00:01

maybe he misread the numbers thats all

Growingboys · 27/07/2018 00:01

Yes I'm near your dad and my phone says 25

MrsFezziwig · 27/07/2018 00:12

Chucking it down here. I live in a bungalow so alas restricted to one floor.

TomaszIsMineBitch · 27/07/2018 00:21

Are you a radiator? Or maybe a decendent of the dr who Pompeii lava people OP?
I have my windows open, fan on and its still over 25°c gone midnight

pinook · 27/07/2018 00:35

Not read through the thread but I don’t get these kind of posts such as OP has put up. We live in the age of the internet, takes a few seconds to look up the weather and see temps for a country.

Attached this pic for England and Wales tmrw. What a surprise some areas in our country are hotter than others. Blimey, feel for those across the Channel, 36c in parts of Belgium, which is far from the Med!

GinUnicorn · 27/07/2018 06:32

I like sunshine but not enjoying this mugginess. Baby miserable and can’t sleep poor thing.

hazeyjane · 27/07/2018 07:10

it’s no hotter than spain/france and we cope fine on holiday so no idea why home is any different

I don't go to hot countries on holiday. Do you know why?? BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO HOT!!

Sorry, too hot for shouting and it's only 7am. A whole day of sweatiness to get through!

Danglingmod · 27/07/2018 07:12

No, 29° outside at midnight - 100 miles north of London, so probably even hotter there.

Anyway, we've had our bit of a storm, now. It's now 20° at 7am. So, the freshest it's been here in weeks and weeks.

Danglingmod · 27/07/2018 07:14

Me, neither, HazeyJane.

I might go to Northern France or Germany, or in the winter I might go further south, but I LIKE NORMAL UK WEATHER. Plenty of people do and don't go sun seeking in the summer!

Piggywaspushed · 27/07/2018 07:18

Umm lavandar what a daft question! The aircon can't achieve the temperature we want is the point!! It is no good optimistically setting the aircon to 17. It has never achieved cooling the room to that degree!

greendale17 · 27/07/2018 07:24

32 outside, 28 in the house. Not seen rain for nearly 8 weeks now

Piggywaspushed · 27/07/2018 07:26

Yes, I have two portable ari con units. One is realy old and very very powerful. In temperatures of , say, 26 it cools a room to 16 (according to its own thermostat) in a few hours. Over the last few days, that one has managed 21 after 6 hours. The newer , less able one just can't do the job. It's better than a fan or nothing though.

And want2b thanks for telling us all you're not hot and then describing some superduper US rectangular window fan we shouldlall have and ceiling fans which we should fit (what, in the middle of the night??) My DM is also in NYC . She has aircon and says it has been unbearably hot.

It definitely wasn't 18 in London last night but - as an aside- 18 is considered a very warm overnight temperature, insufficient to cool people and rooms down. It forms part of a definition of heatwave (daytime temps in excess of 30 and nighttime temps in excess of 17 for three consecutive days, I believe)

Dungeondragon15 · 27/07/2018 07:32

it’s no hotter than spain/france and we cope fine on holiday so no idea why home is any different

In Spain and South of France, houses are built to stay cool in the summer and many buildings have air conditioning. In the UK, buildings are designed to keep the heat in for obvious reasons.
Also, if I am on holiday I usually swim a lot in the sea or swimming pools so that helps to keep cool.

Supertiredmummy · 27/07/2018 07:44

It's 34 and 30 in my house so yeah... ITs HOT
