I'm here in a blanket in the south west in a 3 story Edwardian and it's cloudy.

I've felt other heatwaves but this one doesn't even register tbh

It hit 35 here today, and we haven't had rain in weeks.

Myusernameismud · 26/07/2018 22:19

@piggywaspushed DH used to work in the aircon business so it's a homemade job Grin massively over-engineered and usually more than adequate, alas not this summer...

Mummymummums · 26/07/2018 22:24

36 here in Surrey and I took a photo earlier (attached I think) as I think it's hottest I remember - this was 6.30pm Shock

To think it's not hot at all
cmlover · 26/07/2018 22:25

well rights now it's 35 and hasn't been any different all day.

iv decided we just live in a hot country now, people will start visting here for the sun.

my eyeballs where sweating today... my eyes balls.

and don't get me started on boob sweat or minge mist.

RubiksQueen · 26/07/2018 22:28

I am so unhappy and ill because of this heat. Got to 36 today and it doesn't feel hugely cooler now. Oh and all the woods and fields near my house are going on fire.

madeyemoodysmum · 26/07/2018 22:29

I am very happy to swap with you if you want to drive five hours to herts and then you can live in my 33° house

Reallylosingitthistime · 26/07/2018 22:32

We had 35 today. The house was up to 31 and I dread to think what my old fashioned, no aircon, lots of glass office was but I wasn't there today....

ItsNachoCheese · 26/07/2018 22:35

25 to 11 and still 20 degrees! Fuck my life i need rain

limitedscreentime · 26/07/2018 22:35

We’ve had no rain for over 60days. I LOVE this weather. The ground is knackered but it’s no hotter than spain/france and we cope fine on holiday so no idea why home is any different.

SoyDora · 26/07/2018 22:43

The heavens just opened here... for a whole minute! Torrential rain. It’s stopped now.

borntobequiet · 26/07/2018 22:45

Haven’t RTFT but is this the house OP has to sell because the horrible unfair Govt won’t fund her Mum’s care?
30 degrees today in my Jacobean mansion. Bloody freezing in winter so swings and roundabouts.

SoyDora · 26/07/2018 22:46

limitedscreentime I have lived in both France and Spain and can tell you why I coped better there... air con. It was regularly 40 degrees in the summer in Madrid but we had a fully air conditioned apartment, and most other buildings had air con too.
Also working hours were better suited to the heat. Long lunch breaks followed by finishing late in the evening. We kept completely different hours, which would not be facilitated here.

Passmethecrisps · 26/07/2018 22:51

What a weird thread.

I struggle in the heat. I prefer winter - the clothes suit me better and I can always put more on.

Anyway, us Brits are stupid about the weather. The fact is that our wee island is used to very mild temperatures. Nothing too hot or too cold. We get a fair bit of rain but again not too much.

Why we insist on comparing ourselves to other countries which are not islands, are elsewhere on the planet, have a different geographical make up is beyond me.

I March we had a great deal of snow. I give abzolutekt zero fucks if they would be laughing their balls off at us in Norway - for central Scotland in March it was unusual and no surprise that it shut us all down for a while. That’s ok.

Today it was 30oC. Now when I am on my holidays in the south of France that’s lovely. Houses are built to cope, we dress to cope and it all feels fine. My 1.5 story 1960s House with no floor going unused is storing heat like a greenhouse. My baby’s room is 32. That is unpleasant and when it comes to the elderly and very young, worthy of warnings.

Is it not reasonable to expect people to think outside their own experiences?

thugmansion · 26/07/2018 22:51

Temp in my bedroom at 22.45 is 30.9. I'm done. Booking a flight to er ........cold place. Can someone advise? Must be pretty cool in Australia right? Something bearable like 20 degrees?

userxx · 26/07/2018 22:55

@limitedscreentime Yay!! Me too, give me this any day over cold grey, miserable and wet. I love it 😍

KateMcD451 · 26/07/2018 22:58

I had 4 showers today, 4! It was about 32° outside today and it's been hovering around 28° now for weeks. If you went on holiday to Greece and it was 28° you wouldn't come back and tell people it 'wasn't that hot actually' and normal for Greece, this is hot and abnormal for the UK. Smile

Juanbablo · 26/07/2018 22:58

It's been 34 here in Oxfordshire today. Our house gets very hot.

PuppyMonkey · 26/07/2018 23:07

we just has two strikes of lightning and a whole two minutes of rain in the East Midlands. Still 26 degrees.

Want2bSupermum · 26/07/2018 23:09

Do people not have windows? Open them and put a fan on. As long as you move the air around it will cool a room well. My Dad told me it's 18C tonight. That is not hot. Its currently 29C here in NYC and I'm not hot.

Frustrated00 · 26/07/2018 23:10

I'm in London and its not pleasant for us. My poor baby is suffering and I've had the fan on all day

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 26/07/2018 23:14

It was max 26 degrees here today but intermittently cloudy. Was quite pleasant and bearable. It's raining tomorrow. Feels like an ordinary and nice summer to me... 🤔

Passmethecrisps · 26/07/2018 23:14

Windows haven’t been closed for weeks. We have fans on and an air con unit going.

It is still 28 right not in the baby’s room

Passmethecrisps · 26/07/2018 23:15

And I am very pleased for everyone who is not hot.

thisneverendingsummer · 26/07/2018 23:28

@randomuntrainedcuntowner

Well it's NOT. Hmm

thisneverendingsummer · 26/07/2018 23:28

You are not too hot? Bully for you. Hmm

And a fan is no good when it's so hot coz all it does is blow warm air around! The vast majority of people are saying it's hot (and THEY are hot!) and there is no way that all these people can be wrong. And look at all the other places suffering... Greece, Japan, The Arctic Circle, The USA, other parts of Europe. It's not bloody fiction; there is a huge international heatwave right now.

So just because you (and the daft OP, and several others on this thread) are not hot, that doesn't give you the right to insist no-one else can be hot either, and people who say that it's hot are 'wrong.' Hmm
