To wonder how high the correlation is between Brexit supporters and Trump supporters

The press conference with Theresa May and Donald Trump today was one of the most bizarre things I've ever witnessed.

There's no logic in what Trump says, whether that be a recorded newspaper interview was 'fake news' or that he'd been in power for 160 days.

It seems he literally doesn't care what the truth is, he just says things as they pop into his head.

I honestly can't see why people support him, but likewise, I honestly can't see why people support Brexit.

Both defy logic to me.

The common theme between the 2 is immigration though.

Do Leave voters agree with Trump?

Its nice to be well-off isn't it

Helmetbymidnight make your mind up, are Leavers well off or poor, old, and uneducated?

This is what happens. I point out decent well thought out points and instead of debating the points and why it’s wrong, those opposing simply resort to personal comments.

MissionItsPossible · 15/07/2018 21:40

I didn’t “have a go at you” for anything I just questioned your statement

Helmetbymidnight · 15/07/2018 21:45

Eh? As I said previously, The stats show that brexiteers tend to be older and less educated. This doesn’t mean everyone is obviously.
The stats didn’t show a difference on wealth.
The narrative that poor people overwhelmingly voted Brexit is wrong.

BoneyBackJefferson · 15/07/2018 21:45

SalemBlackCat
Those that are Trump supporters are overwhelmingly racist and against immigration. This is not a goady statement, it is the truth.

It is your truth, it doesn't mean that it is the only truth or The Truth.

MissionItsPossible · 15/07/2018 21:46

@GardenGeek. There was a black mirror episode (I don’t know if you watch it) about the futuristic dangers of technology and the ability to block views that didn’t match their own out of their lives. The same is somewhat happening!

Blaablaablaa · 15/07/2018 21:48

@kenndodd then I definitely suggests she takes the Harvard unconscious (or as they refer to it implicit) bias test. I thinks she'd be very surprised by the results

rocketpocket · 15/07/2018 21:48

Helmet I obviously can't give you a list of the ways in which poorer people will instantly be better off as soon as we leave the EU. However, I do believe that their lives could be better without the EU. If better trade deals are made, if immigration has better controls etc

Helmetbymidnight · 15/07/2018 21:50

Could be better;”, that’s all you’ve got? Ok.

rocketpocket · 15/07/2018 21:54

And all you've got is gradually getting worse...

MissionItsPossible · 15/07/2018 21:56

@Blaablaablaa what test should she he be taking, it directs me to a page with multiple quizzes? Not today, genuinely want to take it and see

rocketpocket · 15/07/2018 21:56

Of course for it to get better for poor people the UK needs to be strong and confident and make trade deals etc. There are variables. Are you pretending you're so stupid that you don't understand that I can't give you any post Brexit certainties?

The fact is, some of us are optimists.

MissionItsPossible · 15/07/2018 21:56

I meant Not goady, not today!

KennDodd · 15/07/2018 21:58

@MissionItsPossible

You said -

If you’re racist and sexist then that’s what you are, don’t try and pretend it’s because you don’t know or it’s because you can’t see what you’re doing.

Implying that I go round being overtly racist and sexist and pretending it's ok. This was in response to me saying -

I often examine my own views, I know I must be racist (and sexist) in ways that I can't see

I guess given your own completely prejudice free (proving Harvard andBlaablaablaa wrong about everybody having biases) views it's fair to think so badly of me.

MissionItsPossible · 15/07/2018 22:01

Wtf are you going on about? I was just w bit confused Cos u said I must be racist and sexist in ways I can’t see and I said if you’re racist and sexist than that is on you don’t try and pretend you’re not

KennDodd · 15/07/2018 22:01

Sorry not finished

to think so badly of me for trying to search out my own prejudices so that I can try to reduce them.

KennDodd · 15/07/2018 22:03

Point is, I'm not trying to pretend I'm not. I don't go around believing I'm not. I'm sure I am, I just can't see where.

I'm sorry I'm not as perfect and prejudice free as you.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/07/2018 22:04

Well we’ll see, won’t we?

companies leaving and the lose of jobs and millions of tax revenue is unlikely to be good for wc people but hey maybe you know something I don’t know.

Not being able to get cancer drugs because we are not in euratom is going to be great too.

And still no solution to the Irish border problem.

Blaablaablaa · 15/07/2018 22:05

@missionitpossible you take any/all that you think would be relevant. Each test looks at a particular bias...for example female/male links to career ( so essentially do you associate a career with men and family with women)
It's a bit like a word association game and is linked to your reaction times.

MissionItsPossible · 15/07/2018 22:05

i don't go around believing I'm not. I'm sure I am, I just can't see where.

Lol, are you racist or not?

MissionItsPossible · 15/07/2018 22:07

@Blaablaablaa sounds interesting but won’t do it tonight if it’s a long thing, interested I completing it though this week and seeing the results

KennDodd · 15/07/2018 22:13

Lol, are you racist or not?

I'm sure I must be. I'm white British growing up in a normal WB environment, this is the sea I swim in, I pick up the culture around me it's impossible not to. I do try to seek out my prejudices and correct them though, as much as it's possible to seek out things that aren't obvious and are so part of our everyday life language and culture.

My example earlier, using the pronoun 'he' when talking about the pilot of a plane, these are the sort of things most of us (not you of course) all the time without even noticing. Well I try to notice myself doing stuff like that and not do it.

MissionItsPossible · 15/07/2018 22:15

Just because you’re white British doesn’t mean your racist unless you actually are, which is why I asked

rocketpocket · 15/07/2018 22:16

"Tell Barnier we will pay not a single penny to the EU and that he can do his worst. Strike an immediate trade deal with the USA, Australia and China. If the EU threatens tariffs against our exports, do the same back: they lose more than we do. If this leads to a ‘hard border’ in Northern Ireland, so be it. We should leave the border soft, because that is what our people want. If the EU wishes to police it and set up customs posts from Donegal to Newry, let them, and then let the people of that island see who, exactly, is causing the problems. Call their bluff. It would be bumpy for a while. But scarcely less bumpy than it is now."

KennDodd · 15/07/2018 22:20

But it's the subtle racism in us (not you) that we don't even see, it's this I try to look for in myself and reduce. I know I've been taking the piss a bit, and I'm sorry, but the idea that somebody is completely prejudice free is nonsense to me, we should all know that that's just not true.

MissionItsPossible · 15/07/2018 22:24

@KennDodd what subtle racism though? That’s what I’m not understanding. You don’t have to be sorry for taking the piss I love to take the piss Grin but I am prejudice free.. I do think. Equality for all
